One of the things that I noticed in this fic, and also many other alt. fics,
is that Soun and Genma have this unnatural need to engage Ranma and Akane
specifically. Gregg Sharp did a wonderful job of explaining why Ranma and
Akane must marry (after all, Grey didn't have any martial arts skills at
all) but this was done after the scene where Soun and Genma are talking
about getting Ranma and Akane to sleep together to create an engagement,
AFTER Nabiki and Kasumi (from their perception) admitted that they slept
with Ranma/Grey. Normally, Soun and Genma (I think) would be perfectly
happy with any one of the three daughters engaged to Ranma/Grey. They could
care less, as long as Ranma marries one of Soun's daughers.
This is a problem with some of the alt. fics that I've read, of course it's
been a while and a small plot hole that I couldn't care less and just
ignore. Only reason I'm bringing this up is because Gregg Sharp, one of the
funniest writers that I've ever known, who can create an entire plotline
with little or no errors, just made one. It's easy to ignore, but like
above, Soun doesn't really care who Ranma marries as long as it is one of
his daughters. Case in point, the Nabiki becomes Ranma's fiance story arc,
where Soun didn't care about the engagement being changed until Kasumi
pointed out that Nabiki had said that she'd sell the Dojo and live a life of
play.
