I love her.
This will, of course, come as no surprise to anyone. Certainly it didn't
surprise her mother. One of her mothers, at least ... I suppose the Princess
*knows*, but she hasn't indicated it to me and quite frankly she scares the
hell out of me and I don't want to have any deep conversations with her.
Nobody should be that ... bright.
The other one, the firey one ... I can relate to her. When we went back
into Cephiro, she looked at me, and I could read her like a book.
"Take care of my daughter. I know that I can trust you to do this." She
didn't say anything other than that, but I suppose that was enough.
I could try and tell myself that she wasn't saying it to me, she was saying
it to Fuu too. She could have been saying that she knew that the three of us
had become sisters in all but blood.
But I know better. I don't love her like a sister.
And she knew that, even before I did.
I imagine that she knows what it's like, to love a light that you'll never
be able to touch. Except of course that she did touch it, obviously, or my
light wouldn't be here.
My light. I wish.
I do touch her. She was startled the first few times I grabbed her from
behind and held her tightly, but she always settled into my arms. And when
that happens, her heart beats steadily against me. Whatever apprehension she
might have -- she can't suspect, the poor dear almost-innocent -- it never
touches her heart.
I could almost find it in me to wish that it did, that her heart beat a
little faster when I held her.
But it doesn't. She trusts me completely. One whom she shouldn't trust in
that way. What a marvelous paradox. Almost as darkly beautiful as the three
of us being drawn into a world to save a princess by helping her to commit
suicide.
I could violate her trust. But I won't. I love her that much.
And she loves me, just as much. It's not requital, but then maybe there
isn't any such thing as a completely requited love. (Of course, I only have
to look at her mothers and know
*that's* a lie.) And I will defend her with
my life, and more, and I will never ever wish for anything else.
I love her. I always will.
It's enough.
I love him
But everyday I'm learning
All my life I've only been pretending
Without me his world will go on turning
A world that's full of happiness that I have
Never known.
I love him, I love him,
I love him, but only on my own.

Author's Notes
No, I'm not done the next chapter of "The Infinite Future". The section
that explains how everything changed the way that it did is turning into one
of my "a bunch of people deliver speeches" scenes, and I want to avoid that
if at all possible.
This is for the girl who tried to match up Jessie and Misty, and Dota and
Tira. (She's got a boyfriend, Theodora. Sorry.)

"You know, if I see one more author slyly have Sailor Mars say that her
personal life isn't anyone's business but her own, I'm gonna demand
royalties." -- me, reacting to "Sailor Moon 4200".
