Chapter 1: Catgirl scorned.
"Hey Ryuu!" Ryuunosuke turned to see some of his classmates walking towards
him; one of them had just called his name.
"Whadda you guys want?" Ryuunosuke already knew, and it was getting kind of
annoying. It wasn't that he didn't enjoy conversation with his classmates;
it's just that they had this habit of constantly asking him about his sister.
All of the guys drooled over Atsuko, which he didn't really like. He knew
Atsuko could take good care of her self, but he just didn't want to be
involved. He also knew that she could be a little naive about some things.
"Well we just wanted to...well, like could you, like, um, give
usherphonenumber?" Ryuu blanched. "What?"
"You know Ryuu, like, can we have her phone number?" Another boy spoke up,
emanating far more confidence than his comrade. Ryuunosuke was getting
miffed, no, irked. This had been the tenth time in half as many days.
Finally Ryuunosuke snapped.
"All you guys think about is SEX, well I'll have you know something, Atsuko's
not really human, no, she's actually a cyborg with a cat's brain. Now do you
understand, why she is the way she is?" The boys suddenly looked a little
scared. "WELL?" They were still scared. But they weren't looking at him;
they were looking past him, over his shoulder. That's when it dawned on
Ryuunosuke. Someone was behind him. He slowly turned. What he saw cut him
to the heart. There was his sister, tears starting to stream from her eyes,
sniffling and looking hard down at him. Ryuunosuke's mouth failed him at that
moment, and there were no words he could have said to calm his sister. By now
his sister was crying full force.
"Why, Ryuu-chan, WHY?" she wailed, "Why did you tell them?" Atsuko ran off
crying, wondering how she was going to tell papa-san, and mama-san? She
couldn't go back to school with Ryuu-chan; all her friend would make fun of
her. No, they would hate her, all because Ryuu-chan spilled the beans.
"Dude, is that true?" One of the boys asked a quivering Ryuunosuke. They
waited as Ryuunosuke sighed, and then hung his head. "Yes" he uttered
faintly.
"Woo whoooo, wait'll everyone hears about this." was all they cruel boys could
say as they skipped off to alert the grape vine. They were out of sight
before Ryuunosuke could oppose.
He turned to go home, trying to think up an explanation and acceptable
apology.
When Ryuunosuke entered his apartment, his eyes met his father's. Kyusaku
seemed to bore holes in Ryuunosuke's head with those eyes. Though he was
angry with his son, he seems also to have a pleading glint in his deadly
stare.
"What in the world made you do such a thing to your sister?" He paused, and
took a breath. "You know that you weren't supposed to tell anyone. Didn't
you even consider how Nuku Nuku felt?"
"I'm sorry father," Ryuunosuke said rather dejectedly.
"Don't tell me you're sorry son, go tell Nuku Nuku, she's the one you hurt."
Kyusaku said in a most parental manner. Thus, Ryuunosuke made his way to Nuku
Nuku's room and knocked on the door. He could still hear crying inside, but
it wasn't as bad as earlier that afternoon.
"Come in," Nuku Nuku whimpered meekly. Ryuunosuke padded over to the side of
her bed. He sat down and put a hand on Nuku Nuku's shoulder. She was facing
away from him lying on her side. Her magenta hair was strewn all over and he
had to move some of it before he sat down, lest it be pulled with a change in
position. Still whimpering, she hugged herself away from his offending touch.
"I'm so sorry Nuku Nuku, I really am." He whispered. She turned toward him
and half-smiled. "So Ryuu-chan doesn't hate Nuku Nuku?"
"Of course not Nuku Nuku!" Ryuunosuke assured her. "What would make you think
I did?"
"Well, you told your friends that Nuku Nuku was a cat. That was supposed to
be a secret." Atsuko sniffled.
"They weren't my friends Nuku Nuku."
"But why did you do it then?" she queried.
"I, uh, well, they kept asking me how to, well, if they could ask you out, you
know, date with you, and stuff like that, and I, and well I got sick of it."
He was visibly uncomfortable. He really didn't want to talk about this, and
his father was probably more qualified to inform her about such things. He
knew what his classmates were after, and didn't like it.
"Ask me out, what's that?" Atsuko looked puzzled.
"Well Nuku Nuku, they kind of want to be with you." That seemed to satisfy
her, as she thought about it. "And Nuku Nuku wants to be with them too!"
Atsuko smiled confidently. Ryuunosuke simply face faulted.
"I don't mean that they want to be your friend, they want to do, well,
inappropriate things with you." Ryuunosuke was blushing at this point and
hoped he wouldn't have to explain things further. His hopes were just that,
hopes. "Inappropriate things?" Atsuko asked.
"Well Nuku Nuku, you see..." he began whispering into her ear, "and the
guy...then the girl... and then they both..."
"Oh" was all Atsuko could respond. Papa-san never told her about this, but
maybe there was a reason why. She just let it go. Ryuunosuke was beat red
now.
"So does Ryuu-chan wanna do those things with Nuku Nuku?" This question so
shocked Ryuunosuke out of his thoughts that he was almost at a loss for words.
"AHHHHH, no, I mean, no, yeah, that's why they're called 'inappropriate
things' Nuku Nuku, they're only done between two people who love each other,
like mom and pop."
"Oh, okay. Well I got to go to work, see you later Ryuu-chan." Her
contagiously bright smile beaming at Ryuunosuke as she leapt up and out the
door.
She was on her way in less that a minute and out of the apartment. Kyusaku
was unsurprised that Ryuunosuke was able to lift her spirits so quickly. He
had spent nearly a half an hour before Ryuunosuke got home trying to calm her
down, with little success. She was completely convinced that her brother
hated her. But as soon as her 'Ryuu-chan' had apologized, and told her he
didn't hate her, she was her usual bubbly state. Kyusaku watched as his son
walked out of Nuku Nuku's room.
"How'd it go?" As if he even needed to ask. "Good." was all Ryuunosuke's
reply.
"You know, now that people know, I'm going to have to send her to a new
school." Kyusaku knew that this would hurt his son, but it was inevitable.
"Why?" Ryuunosuke knew the answer, but asked anyway.
"Because they all know, and besides, I think that she can handle herself now,
she isn't as naive as she use to be." Kyusaku stated. Ryuunosuke paled, <If
only he knew the half of it>.
The day was starting out as usual at the gates of Furinkan High School. The
boys were gathered and Kuno Tatewaki was standing behind the tree in silent
waiting. He was deep in thought. <Doth I pursue the tigress: Tendou Akane,
or the Pigtailed Goddess, bursting with healthy beauty. Alas, I must prove
mine self worthy of their affections by smiting the fiend, Saotome Ranma. >
Kuno was abruptly brought out of his maddening calculations by the call of a
boy in the mob. "There's Tendou Akane, and she's with her fiancée Ranma!" As
the duo ran towards the building, the crowd of boys began their assault.
Suddenly, as if from out of nowhere, a strange girl ran in between the running
duo and the hoard of boys.
"Yeah, everyone wants to play with Nuku Nuku!" she squealed with delight. Of
course, that was until all the boys passed her up and were promptly pummeled
to the ground by a girl with long black/blue hair tied in the back. Atsuko's
smile was replaced by longing sadness because no one wanted to play with her,
they all wanted to play with the dark haired girl. Although the girl seemed
to be able to hold her own against the attackers, Atsuko decided that she
would play with the boys too.
Atsuko jumped into the fray and started to layout many of the boys faster
than Akane could believe. The girl didn't seem to possess any martial
training, but shear power emanated from her being. Akane stood crestfallen at
first, in awe of the magenta haired fighter. Awe gave way to anger at the
girl, because she dared interfere with Akane's fight.
"That was fun!" Atsuko beamed radiantly, then turned to go inside. Suddenly,
a projectile found its way arcing towards Akane. Sensing it, Atsuko deftly
caught it and stared intently at the flower.
"What beauty doth grace these fields of battle, likened to the sun passing
through the clouds and rain?" Kuno spouted. Atsuko stared quizzically at the
tall boy. "Do you want to play with Nuku Nuku too?" Atsuko asked in a blunt,
yet hopeful manner. Atsuko loved to play with people, what ever their game,
sometimes people would want to play really violent games, but she didn't care;
it was fun to play with them. Kuno face faulted.
"I Kuno Tatewaki, the Blue Thunder and rising young star of the high school
kendo world shall challenge you to a duel. Should I loose, I will allow you
to date with me!" Kuno billowed. At this point Ranma and Akane both stared as
the bubbly girl suddenly frowned. Yes, they thought, Kuno's done it again.
It took Atsuko a moment to process what the stick wielding boy said, then it
dawned on her. <Date with me? Date with me? Um, date with, inappropriate
things, papa-san and mama-san. > She looked up suddenly with a frown.
"Ryuu-chan told me about people like you! He said that you just want to ...
um ... get into my panties, that what he said!" she pointed an accusing finger
at him.
Both Ranma and Akane simply fell over. This girl had no concept of subtlety
that was for sure. Kuno on the other hand wasn't really paying much attention
to what she had just said and charged, slicing down with his bokken. Atsuko
seemed not to notice as it hit her square in the forehead and cracked. Now
Ranma and Akane were really wide eyed. The bokken boy had cracked stone with
the air pressure alone using that thing, how did she withstand a direct blow
to the head? Atsuko grabbed the offending object and gave Kuno a savage kick
to the torso. Kuno stood and gasped for breath and collapsed. Atsuko dropped
the halved bokken and headed for the main entrance. She ignored all the
stares she was receiving, not withstanding Akane and Ranma's. After a few
minutes of stunned silence, everyone headed back into the school building, a
myriad of whispers wafting too and fro.
"Good morning class, today we have a new student who will be joining us." The
teacher began. "Lets all give a warm welcome to, um, let's see her, oh yes,
Natsume Atsuko."
"Papa-san and Ryuu-chan call me Nuku Nuku, so all of you can too." Atsuko
smiled confidently, hoping that she would make lost of new friends. Many in
the class thought otherwise, or just didn't care. She recognizes two of the
students, on is the dark haired fighter, the other is a boy who had perched on
top of the wall surrounding Furinkan, patiently watching the fray below.
Unlike the other boys, he seemed to not want to play, but Atsuko didn't really
mind. This boy, who was now arguing with the dark haired girl, wore an
uncharacteristic red silk shirt, Chinese in style, and black pants. The pants
had elastic bands on the ankles and a drawstring waist. The ensemble was
completed with a black belt tied around his waist over his shirt. He had blue
eyes and black hair, which was braided in the back to form a pigtail. Atsuko
noticed that most of the girls were scowling at her, or whispering amongst
themselves, occasionally glancing in her direction.
The arguing couple reminded Atsuko of mama-san and papa-san, and she smiled
at that. Then she took notice of all the boys. Every one of them, save the
pigtailed boy, were staring at her, or more specifically her chest. All of a
sudden, Atsuko didn't feel so confident anymore. After what Ryuu-chan had
told her, she recognized the lust in their eyes. What she had once, naively
thought as potential friends, now looked like hungry dogs.
The teacher, who was by now sick of the argument going on in the back of the
classroom, decided to break it up.
"Saotome Ranma, please escort your new classmate around the building today,
and show her the ropes." The teacher interrupted. Ranma looked up and
straight into the eyes of this new girl. He looked like a dear caught in
headlights. Atsuko smiled, she could not see any hunger in his eyes, almost
as if, he could care less if she was a boy or a girl. "Oh, um, okay." He
managed to stammer out. He walked toward her, but nervously, leaving Akane to
fume. Atsuko was happy that this person seemed like he could be trusted. She
let him lead the way, out the door, and into the hall. "So Ran, uh, Ranma,
right? So Ranma, who is your friend, is she your, uh, girlfriend?" Atsuko
queried.
"WHAT, NO WAY, I ain't ever goin' out with an un-cute tomboy like that!" he
retorted. "So who is she then?" Atsuko asked.
"That would be Akane, my kawaiikune fiancée." Ranma spat.
Atsuko started to sense something odd about Ranma; he smelled like a male, and
a female. Maybe she'd bring it up later, but now she just wanted to talk to
this nice, but strange boy. They continued down the hall toward the stairwell
when Ranma finally spoke to break the silence.
"So, how's your head. I know that Kuno isn't much compared to me, but he can
still pack a mean hit with that stick of his. He once demolished a wall with
that stick of his trying to hit me. He then sliced right through a tree trunk
still trying to hit me." Ranma sounded genuinely concerned. "My heads just
fine, thank you." She returned.
Something about Nuku Nuku started to make Ranma nervous. He couldn't put his
finger on it. <Could it be her noticeably good looks? No. Maybe it was the
way she plowed through the boys this morning in a way that made Akane look
bad? No. Maybe it was those cute little fangs, her bubbly personality, or
the way she took a direct hit from Kuno and acted as if nothing happened? No,
no, and no. Maybe it was the way she emanated cat. Yes. Be afraid be very
afraid. Wait a minute, this is just a girl, but this is a girl who can
defiantly hold her own. >
"So does Ranma want to be Nuku Nuku's friend?" she beamed, yet some how purred
the question out. Ranma definitely star sensing cat and was getting more
nervous by the second. "I, I guess so, if you want me to." Atsuko's smile
brightened further. For some reason she felt a kind of kindred to this boy,
like some part of him was calling out to her, as if maybe he had a little bit
of a cat in him as well. Well if the cat in him was calling out to the cat in
her, she would let him know that liked him and definitely wanted hi
friendship. Her opportunity chose that moment to appear, in the form of an
escaped lab rat wondering down the hall. She was immediately on all fours and
quietly approaching the mouse.
Ranma paled. <She is a cat; she's a cat, c-c-c-cat-t-t! Whoa, she's flashing
me her panties, wait a minute, she is flashing me her panties, and did she
just do what I think she did? > His nose was about to start bleeding when she
abruptly pounced on the poor mouse and turned standing ready to give her
present to Ranma. What cat wouldn't appreciate a good mouse like this from
another cat? Ranma screamed and ran down the hall at an inhuman pace. Atsuko
just stood there holding the mouse in her hand looking rather rejected.
Akane was jolted out of her seat by the scream. She knew that it had to be
Ranma, or at least that pervert is some how responsible. She ran out of the
classroom and down the hall toward the noise. She spotted Nuku Nuku, and was
about to ask her what was going on, when she noticed that Nuku Nuku happen to
have a mouse in an outstretched hand. Jumping to conclusions, she figured
Ranma must have handed her the mouse and ran, and that that must have been
Nuku Nuku screaming. Then she saw Nuku Nuku take off down the hall at an
inhuman speed, calling out to Ranma.
Atsuko finally found Ranma panting, sitting under a nearby tree. She
approached cautiously and plopped down beside him. When he looks at her
pleading eyes, he relaxes a little bit, but not much. He scoots away by about
a foot.
"Why did Ranma run away from Nuku Nuku?" she worriedly asked.
"Because your acting like a cat and I can't be around cats." He stated rather
matter-of-factly. "Why can't Ranma be around cats?" she started to tear. She
desperately wanted to make friends with people, and the only person who seemed
to genuinely like her suddenly can't be around her because of what she was.
"When I seven years old, pops gave me some special training for a technique
called the 'Neko-ken.'" Ranma visibly shuddered at the memory and composed
himself to continue. "The training consisted of wrapping me in fish sausages
then throwing me into a pit of hungry cats." It was Atsuko's turn to shudder.
Atsuko knew very well what happened next, and if felt a sudden pang of
sympathetic pain for him.
"The cats had been starved for three days before hand and pops did this
several times in a row. The next thing I knew I was curled up in the lap of
some nice old lady." Ranma let a relaxed smile cross his lips, if only for an
instant. Atsuko was trembling with tears streaming down her cheeks, she had
never heard of such suffering, for Ranma, and the cats. It occurred to Atsuko
that if this were how Ranma perceived cats, he definitely wouldn't want to be
her friend. This thought only brought on even more tears.
Ranma was many a time famed for his inattentive and insensitive nature, but if
anything got his attention, or made him sensitive to a matter, it was a girl
crying. He wanted to back away, but something seemed to draw him closer.
That something seemed to take control of his hands and made them take her
crying form and cradle her in his arm. She steadily regained composer and
looked up and into his eyes. Upon seeing her no longer crying, Ranma released
her and stared into her longing eyes.
"So Ranma doesn't hate Nuku Nuku for what she is?" Atsuko almost pleaded.
"No! What would ever make you think that? And what do you mean 'for what you
are?'" Ranma wondered.
For this, Atsuko decided that some discretion was in order. She leaned in
toward Ranma's right ear. "I was born a cat, not far from here, but when
Ryuu-chan found me, the was a lot of gunfire, and I was killed. Papa-san kept
my brain alive and put it into this body. He built it and has been teaching
me how to be human for several years now. When Ryuu-chan accidentally
revealed my secret to all my friends, Papa-san decided it would be better if I
went somewhere where I could start over. So, even if you don't want to be
around Nuku Nuku any more, now that you know, please don't tell anyone."
Now for Ranma, although this seemed a little far-fetched, he did not totally
dismiss it. He had only to remember that fateful day at Jusenkyo to know that
her little problem, if you could call it that, was far less weird.
"Don't worry Nuku Nuku, I'll be your friend and you don't ever have to worry
that I'll reveal your secret!" Atsuko's face lit up immediately, and she gave
him a big lick on his cheek. Ranma instantly froze up and fainted.
It was of course around this time that Akane choose to round the corner of the
building. She had only to witness Atsuko giving Ranma an amorous lick, and
her anger welled up and coalesced into a bright blue battle aura. "Ranma you
PERVER!" she screamed and kicked Ranma into low earth orbit. She then glared
at Atsuko and stomped off.
END CHAPTER 1
Well there it is. Chapter 1 of Innazuke Neko is finished. I enjoyed this
little jaunt into the deeper recesses of my mind. Well, maybe not that far,
but somewhere in there nonetheless. I hope you had fun too.
This chapter was finished Saturday, February 26, 2000, at 2:54 AM. Late at
night, or should I say, early in the morning is when I get my best ideas.
Anyway, I am hoping to drag this out a few more chapters and that will
probably be it. I welcome comments and criticisms, however, all flames will
be ignored. Constructive criticism is good for every writer, myself included,
but telling him or her they suck without rhyme or reason, should not be done,
nor tolerated. Constructive criticism can be negative in nature, but negative
comments without backup will be ignored.

The Way that becomes a Way,
Is not the Immortal Way.
The Name that becomes a Name,
Is not the Immortal Name.
The Maiden of Heaven and Earth has no name.
The Mother of all things has a name.
Thus in innocence we see the beginning,
And in passion we see the end.
Two different names,
For one and the same,
The one we call dark,
The dark beyond dark,
The door to all beginnings.
