One: Except for Lisa's hair colour, neither she nor her uncle really seem
"Euro" in appearance to my eyes; they're more like transplanted African
Americans.
Well, I always saw Lisa as very tan, very Mediterranean in appearance. That,
plus her last name, led me to establish her father as a French photojournalist
married to a Japanese woman. (Chapter 2? I need to go look that up...)
Her uncle *is* an African American; he married Lisa's mother's sister. (By
the genealogy that I established.)
Two: I'm not really that sure that the idea of "magic works here" would
be that quick to register with any group of scientists, even ones on the
fringe like IDEC -- more likely they'd start looking for a
hypertechnological explanation ("gravitics?") You might have someone make an
objection on those grounds.
<nod> Good point.
Other than that, loved the "Fire" sequence -- do the alternate lyrics
actually work with the music?
In fact, they do:
Joe McCarthy, Richard Nixon, metahumans, television,
is
Joe McCarthy, Richard Nixon, Studebaker, television,
and
Starkweather, homicide, mutants from thalidomide...
is
Starkweather, homicide, children of thalidomide...
While the latter was a fairly obvious substitution, I spent a while poring
over the lyrics looking for other possibilities.
