Interesting concept... but I would've thought it was drugs from the
internal nagging you describe. I'm not sure alcohol would have such an
effect (but since I've never taken drugs and don't drink, I couldn't say
for sure).
Besides, Ami doesn't exactly come across as a someone who needs such an
escape.
On the other hand, always fighting super-powered monsters and having your
life at risk all the time may be a harder strain on her than most. A little
something to calm her nerves may have accidentally turned into a full-blown
escape.
Now, to my knowledge, Ami's mother is quite proud of her daughter and isn't
the violent type you describe. I think histrionics (Where did I go wrong?
What has happened to you? That kind of thing. I suspect her mother would be
a bit more supportive), would be more appropriate than angry shouting and
violence.
