I received a bit of C&C on this one, and not wanting to be known for shoddy worksmanship, I reworked it. The basic story line is still there, but more things are
explained.

---------

Pokemon is owned be Nintendo and Game Freak. Used without permission.
Prologue-Games of Fate

The match was now into the eleventh round, both competitors down
to their last pokemon, neither willing to step down. The battlefield had
seen better days, holes and cracks giving testimonial to the power of the
attacks that the two enemies had used. Around them, thousands of pokemon
fans watched in silence, as the outcome of this match would decide who
would become the new Grand Champion of the world.
Young Ash Ketchum slowly raised his last pokeball in his hand,
muttering a short prayer to whatever god would listen to him. This was
it, do or die.
His adversary on the other hand, was as confidant as ever. Non
chalantly unclipping the final pokeball from his belt, he looked up and
smirked, certain of victory.
"I must say I'm impressed Ash. Didn't think you could last this
long. But, unlike you, I saved my best for last. Too bad you could never
learn the subtleties of Pokemon strategy. Golem! Go!"
The pokeball flew out of his hand, it's stony occupant leaped forth
in a stream of light.
"Golem!" it stated as it limbered up, ready to deal some pain.
At first surprised, all Ash could do was smirk back, realization
hitting him harder than a ton of bricks.
"Sorry Gary, you lose. Venusaur! I choose you!"
With a flick of his wrist, Ash sent the red and white orb sailing
into the air, until it hit the ground and deposited it's charge. The
plant like pokemon quickly got into a battle stance, and stared down it's
opponent.
 "Venusaur!"
Calculating his chances against his oldest rival, Ash decided for
a quick victory. He would have to use his trump card. And he had only
one chance to do it.
"Venusaur! SOLARBEAM ATTACK!" Ash declared, and pointed dramatically
for effect.
As if on cue, the flower on the back of the large pokemon took in
sunlight, and unleashed it's energy beam toward the dumbfounded Golem and
it's trainer.
The look on Ash's face turns from worried to pure joy as the light
of the beam engulfs him. (Fade to White)

 "Dodrio! Dodrio! Dodrio!"
The sun rose over the horizon and introduced the small town of
Pallet to the new day. The light poured into Ash Ketchum's window, and
aroused him from his peaceful slimber.
 "Ugh, morning already?"
Rising up from his prone position, Ash squinted as the light shone
into his face. Out of the window, Ash could see the perfectly blue sky,
without a cloud in sight.
Gathering himself out of bed, Ash picked up some clothes off the
floor and put them on. Looking himself over in the mirror, Ash couldn't
help but compare himself to the poster of a younger Ash that was hung on
the wall. He was taller and bigger now, almost 5'10", a tall man, if one
considered his asian heritage. His hair was less messy, kept in a shorter,
fashionable trim, and his face more mature, subtle in it's handsomeness,
masculine, yet not brutish. Ash also noted with amusement at his pose in
the picture, classic Ash # 5, thrusting out a Pokeball in front of him,
and the title that was declared under it. Ash Ketchum, Pokemon League
Champion of the World. It had almost been 12 years since he had started
on his quest, 12 years away from home. But he had kept his promise, and
now, after 6 years as champion, he had returned to Pallet. Looking out the
window one more time, Ash happily decided to go for a walk.
Walking over to his closet, Ash opened the door, in search of his
jacket. Instead he found a large dog sized pokemon, sleeping on a pile of
his clean laundery.
"Hey buddy," says Ash, as he gently prods the sleeping pokemon,
"Rise and shine."
The pokemon slowly rises, blinking at the bright sun.
"Raiii-chu?" asks the dog-sized electric mouse in pokemon tongue.
"I'm going for a walk, wanna come?" Ash states as he gives a warm
smile to one of his oldest friends.
Nodding, the pokemon got up "Rai-chu"
Getting off his improvised bed, Raichu reluctantly follows his
master out of the room.

As Ash walked down the stairs, he could hear the sounds of early
morning television. Curiosity aroused, Ash walks over to the source of
the noise. Peeking into the family room, Ash sees that it is his parents,
snuggled up together watching the Jesse and James Show.
"Ohayo Okasan, Otousan" said Ash as he steps into the room.
Noticing the arrival of her son in the room, Mrs. Ketchum diverts
her attention from the TV and Mr Ketchum.
"Oh, just the Jesse & James show." she states, as she returns her
head back onto Mr Ketchum's shoulder
"Ohayo Ash, going out for a walk I see"notes Mr Ketchum, putting
his arm back around his wife's shoulders.
"Hai. Would you like to join me?" Ash says aloud, though secretly
hoping the asnwer was no.
 "Oh, that sounds nice.."
 -Damn-
 "But I think we'll pass."
 -Whoohoo-
"That's too bad."says Ash, trying to conceal his joy, "Oh, by the
way, is breakfast made?"
Knowing she forgot something, Mrs Ketchum sits straight up from her
spot on Mr Ketchum's shoulder.
"Oh, I haven't mad breakfast yet," she states apogetically, "Would
you mind making it for yourself?"
"Oh, no prob. See you later."
Ash walks out of the room, deciding to leave his parents alone, as
he headed toward the kitchen for some cold cereal. In the kitchen, Ash
opened the cupboard and grabbed a box of his favorite cereal, Suger Coated
Chocolate Bombs, pouring himself a bowl. He started eating when he saw
Raichu, and remembered that he might be hungry too.
 "You hungry?"
 "Raii!"
Getting up out of his chair, Ash fetched a plate and placed a
healthy portion of Pokemon Chow (Guarnteed to keep your pokemon's coat
shiny!), and covered it with ketchup.
"Here you go" he said as he placed the dish in front of Raichu.
"Raichu, Rai" thanked the pokemon as it dug in.
They ate in silence, a silence that was broken when Ash spoon fell
into the now empty bowl.
"Ahh, that feels better! Let's go for the walk now ne?"
With that, Ash stodd up, signaled Raichu, and walked out the door.

Pallet Town, home to roughly 500 folks. It boasted glorious
scenery, far away from the hustle and bustle of city life. As Ash walked
down the dirt road with his pokemon companion, he realized exactly how
much he missed Pallet. 12 years on the road had really tired him out,
and only a month ago, Ash had informed of his leave as Pokemon League
champion. It wasn't that he was tired of pokemon. Indeed, the Ketchum
competitiveness was still flowing through his veins. No, it was the life
style that was lost on him. Ash had to admit that the first few years of
being the champion were enjoyable, but clearly it had been time to move
on. He was close to 23 years old, and still had plenty of time to
continue his career as a Pokemon Trainer. No regrets. The stay had started
as a visit, as Professor Oak had fallen ill. Ash had rushed back to see his
former mentor as soon as he had been notified. Professor Oak had been a
very famous pokemon researcher, and many people had gone to Pallet to talk
with him for what might be the last time. Ash recalled some of the people
that had visited. The Elite Four, various trainers, Snap, Tracy. They had
all come to see the Pokemon Prof. But one visitor stood out against all..

*Flashback*
Ash was walking up the road, to see Professor Oak and cheer him up,
something he had done daily ever since the prof had been bed ridden. As Ash
rounded the path and neared the door, he wondered how many more visits were
left before the inevitable happened. He was just about to ring the doorbell
when the door started to slide open. Expecting Gary Oak or the maid, Ash
was taken completely off guard when he found himself standing face to face
with an important looking man. A man with a dark complexion and squinty
eyes.
"Oh excuse me boy.."the man said, as he tried to step out the door.
But, as he did, he got a good look at Ash.
"Ash, Ash Ketchum, is that you?" the man asked.
Ash blinked. Even though he was now a celebrity, he never had gotten
used to strangers spotting him in public.
"I'm sorry sir, do I know you?"
"It's been a long time Ash, so I guess you wouldn't remember me.
I'm Brock. Professor Brock."
Ash was, none the least, surprised.
It was wonderful to meet an old friend after years without contact,
and Ash remembered how he had spent the entire day with Brock after his
visit with Oak. They talked at the Ketchum house almost until morning,
recalling old times, and filling in gaps. As Brock was about to leave,
he turned to Ash, and a look of seriousness was worn on his face.
"Ash, I know that you're happy with your situation right now. Fame
and fortune are yours for the taking. But do you believe that you can be
the champion all your life?"
Ash thought over the meaning of the words.
"What do you suggest Brock-sensei? Pokemon is all I've ever known.
I am not taking my fathers old route as an Encyclopedia saleman."
"I never said that Ash. I'm holding a course right now at U of V
on Pokemon breeding. I am willing to talk to the Board to get you a full
scholarship next fall. You can take other courses, but for most of the time,
you will be my apprentice."
As the words left Brock's lips, Ash could feel himself getting more
excited at the oppurtunity to attend the prestigous University of Viridian.
But he still felt afraid to give up the life he led, and he broke eye contace
for thinking such things.
Sensing Ash's hesitation, Brock pulled his ace.
"And I believe Misty is taking the course for Marine Pokeology.."
 Ash snapped his eyes back.
*End Flashback*

 -Misty....has long has it been?-
Ash sighed. It seemed like centuries since the last time Ash had
seen Misty. Inside, Ash knew he was lucky to have had Misty for as long as
he had, but he felt incomplete without her, his heart continually calling
for hers. He could still smell the perfume she wore that day...

*Flashback*
Ash woke up, and finding the bed empty, got dressed and went out to
search for Misty. She wasn't in any of the rooms in the cottage, so Ash put
on his shoes to look outside.
Misty was there, watching the sunrise by the beach. As she stood
there, all Ash could think of was how much Misty had grown since he had first
met her. Her figure had filled in very nicely, her red hair longer, not
held in a lopsided pigtail, but rather flowly gracefully across her back.
She wore a light blue tank top, and blue jean shorts.
 -Somethings never change- thought Ash.
Misty had grown into quite a woman, more beautiful than any of her
three sisters. But Ash had always known that. He just needed to admit that
to himself. But it just wasn't her body that had matured. She was now
patient where she was impulsive, gentleness where there was once harsh
behavior. Ash couldn't help but to have fallen in love.
Misty knew that Ash was watching her, and was only slightly shocked
as Ash put his arms around her, gently nuzzling her neck with his nose.
"Good Morning. I've been looking all over for you."
She turned her head, and gratefully accepted the kiss from Ash.
"I'm sorry, but I needed some air.." she said as she broke the kiss.
"All's forgiven. Do you want some breakfast, or do you want to stay
out here?"
At this point, Misty wasn't really paying attention, lost in thought
as she stood in Ash's arms, looking out at the lake. She knew this wasn't
to last, so she tried to enjoy as much as possible.
 "Misty?"
Misty lost her train of thought, and looked at Ash.
 "Yes love?"
"Are you alright?" Ash said with concern.
Misty could see the concern in his eyes, and the love that he felt
for her. It made her decision that much more painful, but she had to tell
him now, before she lost her courage.
"No Ash, I have something to talk to you about first.."
She turned around to face Ash, and took his right hand into hers,
and looked him straight in the eye.
"Ash, what do you want to do with your life?"
Ash, who was not expecting this question, was taken aback by the
bluntness of her question.
"What do you mean? I always thought I'd be a trainer for the rest of
my life, you know that."
"Receiving the answer she knew she would receive, but secretly hoping
she wouldn't, Misty looked away, steeling herself for her next words. Finally,
she looked back at him.
"But what are you going to after that? Are you going to get a real
job? Do you want to get married, start a family?"
Again, Ash was unprepared for the interrogation.
"Uh, well, I never planned that far.." was all he could manage as he
rubbed the back of his head with his other hand. Misty was almost in tears
as she prepared for what she was going to say next.
"Well, that's the problem with you, Ash Ketchum, you never plan for
the future. You always try to delay the inevitable, and take it as it
comes.." She paused, taking a sharp breath, and continued "I have been
planning for the future, and I must say you are becoming more and more
distant from it.."
"What do you mean Misty? We can always be together.." Ash said as
he tried to comfort Misty in an embrace. She pulled away.
"If you can't even say that you want to marry me, I don't see how
you're going to fit in my life.."
 "I never said I didn't want to get married, it's just I haven't
thought about it till now.." Ash fought for words, "I love you Misty."
"It doesn't matter anymore. I enrolled into university. Classes
start in two weeks. I think it's best that we don't see each other anymore."
And with that, she turned away, and headed back toward the cottage,
leaving a bewildered Ash staring at her back. Slowly, Ash brought his hand
to his face, and stared at the pools of liquid that had collected on them.
 -Tears. Her tears..-
*End Flashback*
It had been a year and a half. Ash had felt that part of him died
that day. Lonely again, Ash devoted all his time to become the ultimate
pokemon trainer, so that no one would ever take his title away from him.
It was all he had now.
But, if what Brock had told him was right, he might have a second
chance. Between his title and the love of his life, Ash had finally chosen
love. He would attend classes in a month. All that he had to arrange now
was for someone to take care of Raichu, as the campus dorms had a strict
no pet policy, and Ash didn't want Raichu to live in a lab. He knew to
treat his pokemon better than that, a lesson learned the hard way..

*Flashback*
Having been dumped by Misty a month ago, Ash had becoming more
distant, more feral. He hardly slept or ate, only doing both when absolutely
necessary. One day, Ash left his condo, put in a note of absence to the
Leauge, and set out onto the road. After a month of searching, he had
finally found his quarry. The bio pokemon, MewTwo.
As he walked down the cave tunnel, Ash prepared himself for what
could probably be the battle of his life.
Finally reaching the main cavern, Ash had expected MewTwo to have
been waiting for him. Instead, the chamber was empty. This took Ash over
the edge.
"Come out you blue bastard! Come out and fight me! Today, you go
down!" The only answer was his own, as the words echoed in the cave.
"Come out! I am the Pokemon League Champion now MewTwo! Last time
I was nothing, but now I am more than enough for you! You will be mine!"
 -Is that so?-
Ash swore he heard the familiar voice, yet it did not echo in the
cave. He turned around, and saw the menacing Pokemon seemingly appeared out
of thin air, and hovered three feet above the ground. An army of pokemon
soon followed, entering from every angle of the cave.
"You finally decided to show, heh?" Ash spat as he prepared a
pokeball. "Today, your sorry ass is mine, you overgrown science project."
-Big words coming from a species that relies on such a crude method
of communicating-
"We created you, we can destroy you.."
-We'll see about that, won't we?-
Both adversaries advanced, as their pokemon forces met head on.

Author's note- That's all I can do right now. I have a solid story layout, so
I should be able to continue it. Thank you for everyone that gave comments,
and I hope that this is a much better try than the last one. Pre Readers still
wanted, C&C always welcomed.
