The end of the world will be preceded by the axe-age and the sword-age.
Weapons will be wielded and destroyed; following it is a wind-age and a
wolf-age before the inevitable doom of Ragnarok. Winter will take its toll
for three consecutive years without the summer interfering to bring its
people mercy. Three other winters will make its presence known. Midgard
will be at war during this time. Father and son will engage in battle
against one another. Siblings will partake in incestuous acts. Mothers will
abandon their husbands and seduce their own sons; while brothers rip at
each others' hearts.

The wolves Skoll and Hati Hrodvitnisson will swallow the sun and the
moon, bringing total darkness into the world. The starry heavens will fall,
the earth will tremble; mountains and trees will crumble to the ground.
Monsters will break free from the fetters that bind them; and the wild hunt
will begin.

The Fenrir wolf will run loose dragging its jaws upon the earth and the
heavens above. The Midgard serpent will revolt and cause the waters to
overflow the shores. It will spew its deadly venom in the world around him.

In the north the Naglfar ship will be set free from its chains steered
by Hymr. He will be accompanied by a crew of giants. Loki will escape his
bonds and sail northbound on a ship bearing the sons of Hel. In the south,
Surt, the keeper of Muspell, will ride across Bifrost until it crumbles
beneath him.

The Horn of Heimdall will ring across the nine worlds warning the gods
of the danger ahead. The Yggdrasil tree will tremble. A man and a woman
will seek shelter under its quivering leaves as the earth beneath them
quakes at the sound of war. Soon after, Odin will ride away on his horse
Sleipnir to consult the head of Mimir for advice on the course of action to
be taken. The warriors in Valhalla will be sent to the plane of Vigrid with
Odin as their leader.

Odin will charge against the Fenrir wolf, but All-father will fall prey
to the creature's deadly jaws and be swallowed. Odin's son Vidar will
courageously avenge his father's death by stepping on Fenrir's jaw with
his foot. (He wears a special shoe made of pieces of leather that have
been offered to the gods). Vidar will snatch the upper jaw of the wolf and
tear it asunder.

Thor will battle against the Midgard serpent and successfully slay it.
He will take nine steps back and die from the poisonous fumes the serpent
spews forth.

The god Frey will fight against the guardian of Muspell. He will fall
victim to the giant Surt since he has given away his sword to his messenger
Skirnir. Tyr, the god of war, will attack the hound of Hel, Garm, while
Loki and Heimdall engage in combat and die by each other's hand.

The nine worlds under the Yggdrasil tree will become a blazing inferno.
All the gods of the Aesir and Vanir will die, as well as the inhabitants of
all the realms that lie beneath the great Ash tree. The sky will fall into
a pit of flame and the earth will sink into the sea.

A new beginning will come after the world's destruction. The earth will
emerge out of the sea and flourish vigorously. The sons and daughters of
the Aesir and Vanir will survive Ragnarok and meet in council on the plain
of Ida, where Asgard used to be.

Odin's sons, Vidar and Vali will meet there and the sons of Thor will
join them and be heirs of their fathers hammer, Mjollnir. The beloved god
Balder and his brother Hod will return from Hel and join the rest, while
Hoenir will predict what is to become of the new world.

Bor's sons, Vili and Ve, will be sent to the heavens to rule with the
rest. The new ruling gods will congregate and recall past memories of
Ragnarok. Treasures that once belonged to the Aesir will be found
scattered on grassy plains and will be looked upon with great amazement.

Gimle will once more house the gods in peace and bounty. Good and evil,
however, will not cease to exist, for there will be a region in Hel called
Nastrond, the shore of the dead. The dragon Nidhogg will survive the fiery
doom and continue to gnaw on the bodies of the deceased.

The man and woman who sought shelter under the branches of Yggdrasil
will be called Lif and Lifthrasir. They will nourish themselves with dew
drops and give birth to many children to repopulate the earth.

From the great Ash new rays of light will come from the skies above,
for, a daughter was born by the sun before the wolf swallowed her in the
dawn of Ragnarok. This is how it all has ended; and this is how the world
begins.

TODAY

Shit! I still cant believe its you, man! I was really feeling fucked
up back there.

Professor Tomoe Souichi, or rather the creature that wore the body of
Professor Tomoe Souichi nodded politely as he faced his old comrade-at-arms
from across the table.

The Japanese have an odd fondness for pizza that would surprise most
Westerners. It is quite popular with both the university crowd and the
sarariman as it offers exotic foreign cuisine at expeditious delivery
times. Dominos Pizza is a relative newcomer to these shores, competing
with the already established greats like Pizza Hut, Tanto Pizza Co.,
Pizza-La, and Strawberry Cones. is a very popular pizza diner competing
with the likes of Dominos and Pizza Hut.

You did seem rather at ill ease Jareth.

The young man with long hair and wire-rimmed spectacles grimaced in
embarrassment at his companion. Youre too fucking nice, you know that
Germatos? It was a breakdown and you know it. And stow the Jareth the
Devourer business. The names Khyron now. Khyron Tang.

I see. True names hold power over the bearer, Professor Tomoe noted
with a small bow. I shall not speak of it again.

Its not that, Khyron waved off dismissively. Im just tired thats
all. I just have to get used to my new name. The young man looked around
the crowded lunch area and caught the eye of a pretty waitress decked in
blue with red and white trim. He smiled at her appreciatively as she
offered the two men a set of menus.

Good morning, sir, maam! Welcome to Dominos! How may I... The
waitress paused in mid-sentence as Khyron turned slightly and glowered
banefully at her. Oh! Gomen-nasai, sir! she bowed in embarrassment and
slowly backed off.

   *I think I need a haircut...*

So how long you been in-country anyway, Khyron asked over the table
as he skimmed over the menu trying to remember how the stupid Japanese
writing worked. Ive been sneaking in and out of here for about a month or
so, trying to get a new identity into the system.

Ive been here almost three days. I dont need a new identity as my
host serves as the perfect camouflage. Professor Tomoe said. Having all
the memories of his host, he knew all he needed to know about the world
around him, but Jareth or Khyron as he now referred to himself urged him
here, saying that the actual experience of ordering pizza would help him
distinguish his own preferences from his hosts inclinations. The menu was
a tri-fold affair and Professor Tomoe browsed through it looking for a
something he thought would like.

Lucky stiff... Hey! Why are you here anyway? Khyron noted with sudden
suspicion, putting down his menu. You aint gonna armageddonze this burg
are ya?

Professor Tomoe looked evenly across the table. I come in my capacity
as the Herald of the Silence Yet to Come and it is by His wishes that I
bring...

Hey! No fucking way, Germatos! the young man interrupted. This place
is mine! I call dibs on this seeing as I was here first!

This is your dominion, Jar-- er, Khyron? Then we have a problem. These
humans have angered the Messiah for their breach of payment and he
demands vengeance. He has waited millennia for this.

Be specific dude. Im human and I dont recall jumping the bill with
Pharaoh 90.

How can _YOU_ be human?! You are a creature of power as am I! No mere
human could...

Could what? Stand face to face with an elder god and give him the
finger? Khyron smirked crossing his arms.

Among other things! These, Professor Tomoe gestured around him,
lesser creatures are too fragile to witness the awesome power of the
Eidolons, the forgotten Gods. Why do you think I hold this capacity as my
Masters herald? His very sound of His Voice could...

The young man held out his hands apologetically in a warding gesture.
Yeah, yeah, I know... --his very voice could cause my heart to stop and my
brains to imitate a cat in a microwave... NOT that Ive ever placed a cat
in a microwave or nothing... and that would be a few seconds after I went
completely and totally insane.

Professor Tomoe sputtered in confusion and agreement as his companion
continued.

What? You dont think I dont have a million screaming voices inside my
skull whispering to me the fundamental truths of the universe; truths
humans werent meant to know or possibly comprehend? Been there! Done that!
I know what reality is and I know what the secret of the universe is and
furthermore I know Im incurably fucked in the head so maybe thats how I
survived Your Messiah. So in your case of service, hey, Im just a pay
check employee. As long as it comes in twice a week I dont give a fuck
what the hiring preference the CEO has. So dont start.

His little rant finished, Khyron just crossed his arms and slouched in
his seat, staring defiantly at the older man on the other side of the
booth; both daring him to reply and rebut what he said.

In rough terminology, Germatos, the creature that was currently
Professor Tomoe Souichi could be considered a demigod in his own right, and
all the powers and levels and degrees of omnipotence that position
bestowed. Yet here, as in the past, in front of his old comrade-in-arms, he
felt as confused and as stupid as a Ssur. Given this fact, he sincerely
gave his respect to the young man across the table. It was only prudent
that power be respected, so he bowed again, deferring to the wisdom of his
companion.

Professor Tomoe decided to explain his position better knowing that he
did not want the formidable capabilities of his companion arrayed against
him. It was a courtesy, as this Earth seemed to be his realm.

As Master of this World, I would not impinge to lecture you on what you
already know, specifically the past ages of your realm.

Yeah, go on... Khyron prompted, all the while smiling broadly and
thinking, I have no fucking idea what youre talking about!

Aeons ago, this world lived in an age of Gold and barbarity. They
worshipped strange gods and sought to master the nothingness that was once
here. It was here upon this world, that the Messiah was first worshipped,
as the Silence He brought was one of the corner stones of the fabric of
reality. In time, the Master grew in stature and power and the natives
rebelled seeking order and creation. In time the gods were banished along
with the Master and the universe that you see was created.

Wait a minute. Youre telling me that a zillion years ago, SOMEBODY
went and offed Pharaoh 90?! Khyron started incredulously. You gotta be
shitting me! You dont send a god to the great beyond without leaving a
body of stone in the Void! So wheres the stiff! I dont seem to remember
any toe-taggers orbiting NASA!

It is true what you say, that the corpses of dead gods are more or less
tangible. The corporeal form of the Messiah of Silence in this reality is
what you humans consider the seventh planet orbiting this solar system.

A sphincter says what?! Germatos, buddy... lets pretend for a moment
that I dont know jack-shit about the end of the world or how to summon the
Eidolons, Fred Flintstone or Hello Kitty. Now, what the _fuck_ are you
talking about?!

Saturn. My Masters corpse is the planet known as Saturn.

Seventh... planet? Wait up, Khyron queried with a puzzled look on his
face as he proceeded to count his fingers. Mercury... Venus... Terra...
Mars... Jupiter...

Professor Tomoe just shook his head patiently. Tiamat. Mercury...
Venus... Terra... Mars... Tiamat... Jupiter...

Tiamat? Tiamats gone man. Got pulverised by the Marduk comet back
in...? Back in way back when! All you have left now is the Asteroid belt.

Professor Tomoe just arched an eyebrow wordlessly asking his companion
if he had anything to do with that particular calamity. Khyron just made an
embarrassed choking noise that was half-committal and was gesturing hissily
for the Professor to drop the subject in case anyone might decide to hold
him accountable. NOT that he had anything to do with that, of course.

Okay, Mercury... Venus... Terra... Mars... Tiamat... Jupiter...
Saturn... Uranus... Neptune... Pluto... Nemesis... Oh, yeah! Seven!

About thirty thousand years ago, the descendants of that perished
Golden Age formed a new age of treachery and perversion across the solar
system. Professor Tomoe continued his lecture. This was the Silver Age,
ruled from Luna by the bitch Queen Serenity. It was her minions who reached
out to the Powers beyond the stars and contacted the Messiah for his
blessings. You see, they needed to forge a weapon great enough to enforce
their Queens control over her realm and the Master agreed as long as they
paid his price. The weapon the minions forged was a pole-arm, about seven
to nine noks in length, constructed of pure iron and engraved with silver.
It was known as the Silence Glaive and the fear of its power and the power
of its bearer quelled all thoughts of rebellion.

Okay, lets get this straight. Humans from the first age have Pharaoh
90 for lunch. But since you cant kill a god outside his home plane, his
essence retreats and Im left with a ball with a hula hoop orbiting
overhead! Naturally 90s pissed since dying does that to most people and
Im betting hes not feeling too chummy about humans walking and breathing
from this point.

Professor Tomoe just nodded allowing his companion to figure out things
his way. After all, it was rather entertaining how he phrased this
knowledge.

Fast forward so many years, descendants of age one need crowd control
and find out about your boss and ask him for hardware. He does and
they...?! And the bloody mother-fuckers dont pony up the dough! Did they
Germatos?

Correct. In payment for the Silence Glaive, the minions of Serenity
were supposed to bring about the Silence, drawing the Master back to this
mortal plane. Serenity reneged on the agreement and the Master has been
biding his time ever since. Waiting and watching man as his hatred for the
species continues to grow as boundless as the stars that imprison him.
Professor Tomoe concluded with a flourish.

Khyron just looked evenly at his companion. But neither you nor Mr.
Happy ever counted on me popping up again, I think.

   That is correct.

Khyron thought a moment in consternation. Riding the tail end of
Armageddon was definitely _NOT_ what he wanted to look for in his
retirement years. He had to think fast! He knew what nothingness was like
and he would be damned if he EVER spent the hereafter without kicking and
screaming like an asshole first!

Tell me, Germatos ol buddy... Khyron asked slyly. Is it just you
hanging around or is that babe, whats-her-name...? Oh, yeah! Mistress 9!
Is she here?

The Lady Mistress 9 has not arrived on this plane as I have yet to
choose a Host for her to inhabit. I have a candidate, but the power within
her has not yet gestated.

Professor Tomoe acknowledged grudgingly. The last time these two met up
Germatos had spent an inordinate amount of uncomfortable time trying to
patch up yet another in an endless number of petty arguments. No matter if
a creature of power, Jareth the Devourer (or Khyron as he wished to be
known now) was, he wasnt for everyones consumption and by the Silence,
Germatos didnt want to be anywhere near those two if his comrade decided
to try and date Mistress 9 again. Oil and water was all Professor Tomoe
could think about when Khyron outflanked him.

Tough shit buddy. Im pulling in ALL the markers you owe me. I want you
to swear on His everlasting corpse that you aint gonna touch this burg for
as long as I or my descendants or the descendants of those I marry into
still live. And I INVOKE the old coot to hear this! Seeing as youre the
guy with the Messiahs power-of-attorney, you got no choice but to obey! He
owes me and Im collecting now!

Professor Tomoe was shocked as his companion (who he still regarded as
more than human) invoked the power of his Master. It was a demanded pledge
he could not deny no matter what the circumstance. It was a fundamental Law
of the Universe.

   But...!

Quit squawking and say the words!

The being that was Professor Tomoe lowered its head and spoke with a low
and grudging voice. I swear by the name and corpse Master Pharaoh 90,
Messiah of the Silence and Bringer of the Silence Yet to Come, I, Germatos
the White, Herald of the Bringer of the Silence Yet to Come in
representation of all the other Servants of the Master, swear that never
shall we act against the Peoples of this Earth unless given due permission
by you or your descendants. Let the stars beyond bear witness to this
pledge!

The older man slumped backwards and down in his chair, outfoxed and
outwitted yet again in a play of words by the young man before him. For the
nth time, Germatos wondered if he was truly a friend or a demon come to
torment him for his sins. The demon in question was gyrating his arms and
torso in some odd dance of victory, drawing the embarrassing looks of the
other patrons at the restaurant.

Cmon dude! Dont be that way! You and I go way back! You know there
aint no way Im gonna let you hang! Khyron reached over with a benevolent
and mischievous grin, playfully punching his companion in the arm.
Professor Tomoe just smiled at this small consolation. Oh, hell! One thing
he could count on his friend was his uncanny ability to weasel out of any
situation and provide entertainment along the way.

Alright. But for now, PLEASE explain to me why you just did what you
did!

There are lotsa reasons. Maybe on a level, I want to yank on M9s
britches because I damned well know itll drive her nuts. Then theres the
reason of jurisdiction. I claim this place as my home and I guess because
of that Im honour-bound to protect the here and now. I know I dont look
it, but Im getting on in years and theres nothing I can show for it.
Humans are like that. We need to place roots somewhere.

I dont understand, Khyron... How can you walk away from your destiny?

Germatos, dude. You dont need to understand me. Its not necessary.
What is, is this: Everybody has the right to stop being what they are and
become something that that makes them happy. I want to have everything I
could have had before I went on this... walkabout. I want...

Khyron stopped in mid speech as he noticed the blank look on his
companions face. >sigh.< How do you translate I want a house, car,
girlfriend, and stock portfolio into Elder-God-ese?

Okay, I want to lord it over my pitiful subjects by disguising myself
as a lesser being and bestowing gestures of power upon the faithful and
sending pain and torment among the disloyal.

Yup! Theres that spark of recognition!

Ah! A common amusement among the gods, old friend!

   >sigh.<

Germatos buddy, things have kinda changed a bit since the First Days.
Look, trust me on this, I know time is inconsequential to the gods. One
day... one millennia... whatever! But! If you let me, Im sure I can change
your mind AND your boss mind about Home Sweet Terra. We got tons of
redeeming shit happening all around us! Not like way back when! We got
beer, we got guns, we got high school babes in short skirts, and we got
downloadable porn from the Internet! Trust me dude! Youre gonna love being
human! I guarantee! Now shut up and order!

Both men picked up the menus once again and looked for something tasty.

Aw, fuck! They dont got any KIMCHI-BACON here! Maybe we should have
headed to Tanto or Pizza-La... Oi, Germatos! You gotta try the BASILICO
DELUXE! Its got eggplant, mushrooms, roman tomatoes, onions, crispy bacon,
extra cheese, and green basil sauce on a crispy Italian crust.

What about this MAYO JAGA? It claims to be a bestseller.

MAYO JAGA? Oh, that ones got... mayonnaise, potatoes, green peppers,
onions, corn, crispy bacon, and extra cheese. Order it if you want, dude! I
never liked mayonnaise.

Maybe Ill order a medium MAYO JAGA and a medium ALL-STAR SEAFOOD. This
one has smoked salmon, green asparagus, shrimp, squid, green pepper, dried
katsuobishi fish flakes, onions, and extra-cheese!

Good choice dude! Khyron enthused. I know you aint been here long,
but dont ever get suckered into an American pizza place if ever! Those
weirdoes place pineapple as a topping! Gross!

What will you be having, Khyron?

Well, since youre footing the bill here, Ill just get the NASU
SHIMEJI. Its got eggplant, shitake mushrooms, Italian sausages, bacons,
and onions. Ill get some extra toppings. Lets see... Ill have some extra
teriyaki chicken, raisins, green asparagus, and potatoes! Should I add
ginger and cod roe? Nah, not good with the teriyaki. Lets grab a large
pitcher of Pepsi while were at it!

The meal was delightful and Khyron was pleased that his old friend
seemed to enjoy not only the taste of the food, but the process of eating
in itself. Germatos found the experience as pleasing as the experiences of
the late Professor Tomoe suggested. Between the two men, the food didnt
stand a chance and before long only crumbs remained. Pleased with himself
Germatos eyed the remaining ice cubes at the bottom of the empty Pepsi
pitcher. The memories of Professor Tomoe indicated that he once enjoyed
crunching ice and Germatos decided to try the experience for himself.

Khyron had just finished his portion of the meal, leaving nothing but
the crusts (which he never liked). As he began to swig down his Pepsi, he
almost gagged as watched Germatos open his mouth and snake his tongue out
down the pitcher (which was in itself halfway across the table), wrap
itself around an ice cube and snake its way back into his mouth.

   Crunch. Crunch.

Everything in the immediate vicinity of their booth suddenly quieted up
and it was Khyrons turn to sink into his chair in embarrassment. For a
minute or two, Khyron tried to find a way to weasel himself out of this
embarrassment, but his brain seemed to be failing him at the moment.

A tall young socialite in her late twenties just sauntered by. She was
quite a knockout with striking red hair and matching lips that seemed to
hold promises there. She just winked at Germatos, then bent over the table
to scribble something on a napkin and giving an eyeful of cleavage in the
process. Her perfume was tantalizing.

Give me a call if youre not doing anything tonight, cutie!

And with that she walked off, leaving one thoroughly confused daimon and
one thoroughly amused human. When both men recovered, they began slapping
each others hands for possession of the napkin. It simply said:

   Call me! 160-8524
   Luv, Kaolinite.

See? How can you armageddonise this burg? You aint in less than a week
and already youre gonna get laid!
