Subject: [FFML] An idea up for grabs

I was reading some of my old Dark Horse "Aliens vs. The Predator"
the other day and I pulled out my old disk of fanfics i've saved over the
last couple of years. It seems to me that there's been several fics where
our favorite anime characters get put up against a Predator in a combat to
the finish. However, I don't think I've ever seen a fic where one of the
anime characters actually IS a member of the predators. Much like the human
woman that is "adopted" in the comics.

The following idea just popped into my head as I was thinking this
out, but I have no idea where to go with it from here. I've got an idea of
how I want things to end up with it, but I'm not totally sure.

At any rate, if anyone wants to use this idea as a basis for a full
fanfic, they are welcome to it, although I ask that you PLEASE contact me
and let me know. If anyone wants me to continue it, please feel free to
throw some ideas my way and I'll see what can be done -- although I make no
promises. As it stands, I intended this to be a Ranma 1/2 fusion with the
Predator series with one of the Ranma cast as the human. I figured on it
being either Ranma or Akane, cause I don't give a name to the person who is
talking. However, if you want to use it with another series, that's find
with me.

Thanks a lot to those of you who read this offer.

James Jones aka "The Blood Phoenix"

P.S. Please ignore any grammatical and/or spelling mistakes. I wrote this
up in 45 minutes ;)

My name isn't really important. Names here are just sort
of assumed. You have one based on a personality or phsyical trait.
When it comes down to it, no one really has a name, just a phrase
that distinguishes them from someone else. Some other hunter.
It's been about a month since the last hunt. I think.
Sometimes it's hard to tell.
I often wonder about my life, and how it came to be at the
point it is now. The others think I'm foolish. They ask "why mourn
an old life when it is over? Why not honor a fallen rather than
shed tears over them?"
I don't know why. I guess... I guess I just want to know
why I'm here. I'm the only one of my kind on this ship. Actually,
let me rephrase that. I'm the only LIVING one of my kind on this
ship. The walls, in many places are covered in the skulls of people
like me. Trophies of the hunt.
Walking down the hallways of the ship, I can never help but
wonder why everyone takes such an interest in me. Humans have
impressed these creatures before; I guess I'm the first one to be
brought on board though. Everyone always seems to stare at me as
I pass, but after six years I'm used to it.
I'm lucky though. I don't have to sleep with the other
"lower castes" that line the hallways of the ship. Only a few
people on this ship have their own rooms. The navigators, whom if
it weren't for them, no one would ever get to the hunting grounds.
The warriors, for whom the hunt is everything. And then there's me.
Rounding the corner, I pull the latch and open my door.
Small room, but more than what I need really. A single viewport to
watch the stars go by, a pole for hanging my armor on, a thick
stringed hammock and a trunk for storing my weapons. Simple, spartan,
functional, that's the way we operated.
On impulse, I reach down and pull out the trunk. Popping the
latch, I open it and reach inside; checking and rechecking, just in
case I get to hunt in the next round. I don't know who was the
first to use this gear, but I know it's old. Waste not, want not,
that's the way we are. When one of us dies, if we can recover the
body, we recover it and pass the equipment on to another warrior.
The stuff I have now used to belong to Black Arm, before he
got himself cut in half.
The trunk is buldging with weapons, more advanced than
anything you'd ever find on my old world. The funny thing is, that
I've never used half of them. The others take nearly everything on a
hunt. My gear is typically my armor, my stealth suit, the spear, my
wrist knife and sometimes my darts. Everything else just seems like...
I don't know. Like cheating I guess.
Lifting the wrist knife out of the trunk, I strap it to my
forearm and check the connection. This is the weapon I took my first
trophy with, and I feel a special connection with it. Just like I
feel a connection with others... the bloodlust is starting to grow
around me and I can sense another hunt is about to be called.
"Yoouu arr trrroubled," a voice behind me growls.
With a start, I leap to my feet and spin, the knives extending
on reflex. But as I land, I stop mid-strike. It's Old Blind-eyes.
He's really the reason I have this room. I dont know why,
but when I was brought on board, he took a real liking to me. In a
way, he's kind of a like a father; more so than my own old man ever
was. He's not forgiving, but he understands mistakes. I don't think
I could have asked for a better teacher. He's blind, of course, that's
how he gets his name. He's also old; I'm not sure just how old, but I
know he's WAY up there. But neither of these things make him weak,
the guy has more trophies than any ten others combined.
Of all the others on the ship, he's the one I would never dare
to challenge. A year ago, I saw him fight someone who wanted to lay
claim to his chieftain's title. The fight lasted a second at best.
No matter how many times I replay the duel, I can't seem to remember
him moving. It was two strikes and the next thing I knew,
Old Blind-Eyes was walking away, while the other lay clutching the
stump that had been his arm.
"Wwwaat is wrrrong?" He asks, his reptile like fingers
fiddling with the old bone necklace he always wears.
	"Nothing," I reply. "Just thinking."
For a moment, I think I see a trace of a smile on his face.
He knows I'm lying... he has to. But he won't say more. If he wants
to know, he'll beat it out of me later.
	"Coommme," he says.
I nod and push the trunk back to its place. I knew it.
A new hunt has been called.

I follow Old Blind-Eyes through the corridors to the main
room. Neither one of us speaks. Neither of us has to. We know the
codes well... him better than I.
As I we enter the room, I take note of my surroundings like
always. Sixty have gathered for the right to hold the positions on
the hunt. The room itself is like a giant upside down bowl. A small
raised plateform dominates the center and on the far wall, nine medals
hang from spikes that protrude from the sides of the room. All
around me, the others talk and boast, each one wondering where the
hunt will be held this time.
No one questions Old Blind-Eyes as he takes the first medal,
signalling his leadership for this hunt. Warmask steps up and takes
the second. Again, no one questions him. My eyes dart left to right
as the others begin to climb on the stage.
Now the challenges start. Younger warriors bid for the medal
only to be challenged by others. As always, the place for the hunt
will only be announced after the last medal has been claimed. Six
down, three to go.
Finally, only one medal remains and I see Long Fang, one of the
younger warriors step forward to claim it. For a moment, it seems
like no one else wants the medal, but at the last second, I look towards
Old Blind-Eyes and he nods to me. With a spring leap, I land on the
stage and grab Long Fang's wrist just before he takes the medal.
This is how we challenge. No words, just actions. You either
win, or you lose. Tearing his wrist from my grip, Long Fang snarls
at me and slashes. I dodge easily.
I'm told that I'm tall for my human age, but Long Fang is
easily a head taller than me and nerely three hundred pounds of
solid muscle. His strong, but I'm faster. As he lunges at me, I
leap up, catching his jaw with me knee and causing him to stagger.
Two follow up kicks to his chest and stomach knock him back and an
uppercut palmstrike nearly topples him. But I underestimate his
stamina.
A backhand catches me unawares and I'm sent reeling. A
follow up strike knocks the air from my lungs and I fall to my knees.
It's over. I feel him lift me up, ready to fling me from the
plateform. At that last second though, I feel a surge of adrenaline,
almost like my body is telling me I NEED to be on this hunt. Why else
would Old Blind-Eyes have nodded at me?
Moving as fast as I can, I bring my left hand down between
Long Fang's eyes and my right across the back of his neck. He staggers
and I break free. Three fast kicks to his stomach and groin break
his defense and I slam my full weight against him, sending him from
the plateform.
No one moves to help him. He's lost and I've won, that is our
way. That is our code. No one challenges me as I pull the ninth
medal from the wall and hang it around my neck.
The warriors are chosen. As one, we send out our war call
to whatever blood thirsty god these creatures worship. As it fades,
Old Blind-Eyes announces the hunt. In my chest, I feel my heart
pound faster than it ever has in my lifetime.

It's four hours later. Half an hour before the shuttle takes
the chosen nine to our hunting grounds. In my room, I strip off my
usual clothing and pull on the mesh webbing of the stealth suit. My
loin cloth and greaves are next, then my arm guards. Next I pull my
stealth system and attach it to my left wrist. My wrist knife covers
my right forearm and wrist. The last thing I pull on is my breastplate
and backpack before I pick up my mask and spear.
A member of the lower castes tells me the shuttle is ready and
I depart. Unlike my other hunts, I take everything with me this time.
As I enter the shuttlebay, I collapse the spear and hook it to my side.
Shaking my hair loose from its bindings, I pull the mask over my face
and snap it into place.
Now I know why Old Blind-Eyes wanted me on this hunt. Now I know
why I needed to go. The hunting ground is Earth.
The others are returning to a favorite hunting ground.
But I'm not going on a hunt.
	I'm going home.
