The night sky was filled with all the colors of the rainbow, all of them
dancing in the sky in unique in wondrous patterns. They formed a line

which stretched to the moon and started at the large and imposing
structure of the magic castle, which was full of people dressed in

wondrous uniforms and gowns. All eyes were on the sky, as the colors
continued to dance along to the Blue Danube before they finally seemed to
bow to those that were watching as they faded away, leaving the sparkling
night sky.

Applause filled the building, as the maestro of this fine performance
soaked in his well-deserved accolades. He was a man of great stature, a
man who commanded great respect just from the way he looked. His uniform
was the most plain out of all the men that were in attendance, yet his
seemed the most regal of them all because of the simpleness of it. His
face was full of good humor and humbleness as he started to bow, but deep
down you could see the determination and steel he had in his personality.
And all of those in attendance knew these things, for they expected them
of the king. A man who had lead the Magic Kingdom to new levels of peace

and prosperity.

A hush fell over the crowd as he rose to speak, surrounded by his elegant
looking wife and his young daughter of about sixteen. Both looked regal
in their simple gowns, accentuated by the simple yet shining crowns they
wore. "Thank you very much for coming here today," the king started in a
loud and booming voice, "today is a very important day for my family and

The king turned his gaze toward his daughter before he continued
"Margaret my daughter, it is time for your test to begin. Are you ready?"

The ball room was filled with silence as they turned to look at the
king's daughter. If they looked closely, they could have seen a small bit
of fear on her face before it was replaced with the regal look she usually
wore. "I'm ready," she slowly said, before she trailed off, looking up
into the sky.

"Very well, then the test will commence immediately then." He exclaimed,
pride filling his face as he looked at his daughter. "Tomorrow you will
go the other dimension and find you're double. And to her you will give

a magical item you have designed which she will use."

"for her use" would go more smoothly.

"I understand."

"And how well the item works and how useful the item is will be
determined by how well your double uses it."

"I understand ," Margaret replied in a small voice, bowing slightly to
her father.

"Very well, the test which we have used for generations has begun once
more. Good luck my daughter!" The king shouted, joined in by the people
attending the party.

Soon after the music started up again, and the king went out with his
queen to meet and mix with the nobles who were at the party. Large
dancing lines formed in the center of the ballroom as the guest danced
under the light, the king once again producing his symphony of colors.

And while all this was going on, Margaret had slipped out to one of the
balcony's unnoticed. She leaned on the railing, her eyes focused on the
night sky above as the stars moved about in the night sky.

The morning sun filled the Tokyo sky and reflected of the dew on the
morning flowers. A gentle wind moved the cherry trees, filling the air
with cherry blossoms. The streets were mostly empty at this hour, as most
people will still preparing to go to work or school. But there was one
lone traveler walking the streets, for she had to show up early to
preform for her morning duties and prepare for the mock exam she would be
taking later at Juku.

But Mizuno Ami didn't care that she had to get up early, she liked the
early morning sky and the colours it produced. And she liked walking
alone in the Cherry petals, the colour pink surrounding her on every
side. And she also didn't mind the fact she was going to school early,
because she loved studying and reading. All in all Ami was in heaven...

A heaven that was soon to end as she turned the corner on the street.

"Well what do we have here boy's?" A man in a red Hawaiian shirt asked

"boys"

in curt voice. He had on dark shades and was surrounded by three large
goons who also wore similar attire. "Why if it isn't the Genius girl
Mizuno Ami-chan fella's. We've met somebody famous!"

Comma after "Ami-chan". That sounds more like a boy than a man.

A nervous Ami looked around and started to head back down the street when
her path was cut off by 3 more huge young men. Each had a pair of brass

knuckles on and a rather vicious smile on their face.

"Now, now! We wouldn't want you to run away before we had a chance to
meet you Ami-chan." The boss laughed as he moved forward towards Ami. "I
mean it isn't often that we get to meet the star pupil of Mugan Private
Juku academy. Why your practically famous!"

Comma after "Why", "you're"

The leader slowly raised his fist to the sky, his grin taking on a
devious glint. A look of panic crossed Ami's face as she started to look
around for anything that could help her. "And since your famous," the man

"you are"

continued as he grabbed her uniform, "I've bet you've got a lot of money
to give us."

Ami closed her eyes, reading herself for the blow to come, preparing to
reach for the one item that could help her deal with the punks. But the
blow didn't come, as instead the man had let go her blouse. A loud cry of
pain filled the air and as Ami opened her eyes and she saw her attacker
rolling on the ground, screaming in pain as he tried to remove the guitar
pick that was stuck in the middle of his hand.

"It's the pick," One of his lackeys shouted before he was kicked in the
head. A loud thud followed as he quickly hit the ground. On top of him
stood a girl with long dark hair and wearing a school uniform that was
different than Ami's. A look of disdain was on her face as she looked at
the punks still standing, all of them looking at her like she was an
demon of some sort.

"It's Pick no Madoka, run!!!" They shouted, trying to get away. But
before they could run Madoka quickly went into action, letting lose with
a quick snap kick to the head of the thug closest to her. While she was
finishing the motion she let loose with three Guitar picks that hit the

kick to the head of the last standing thug . Bouncing off him, she floated
to the ground and landed solidly on her two feet.

Ami looked on in awe, as the whole fight took less than two minutes and
looked like a whole blur to her eyes. She looked down to the goons, all
of seven of them looked in pain as they moved around on the ground. "Go,
run away now," Madoka said calmly, a fierce look still filling her face
as she watched on, the punks stumbling to run away, leaving only Ami and
Madoka in the alleyway.

The wind picked up at that moment, blowing cherry blossoms in the face of
Ami and Madoka as the two looked at each other. An awkward silence filled
the air for awhile before Ami started to speak up. "Thank you very much
for your help Madoka-san," she sincerely said as she bowed slightly to
her savior.

"Feh," Madoka snorted as she turned to walk away, leaving a confused Ami
all alone in the street, the Cherry petals blowing all around her.

"AYUKAWA-SAN" the vice-principle yelled in typical voice which produced
the typical results for Madoka, which was her usual disinterested look

"uninterested" or perhaps "blase"

that she managed for her daily chewing out sessions. It was all part of
her daily routine and she had gotten pretty good at ignoring most of the
windbags lecture.

"windbag's"

"Are you listening to me Ayukawa-san?" The vice-principal asked as he
loomed over Madoka, a fearful look on his face. "This is the fifth time
this month you've been in a fight at school. That's unacceptable behavior
for a Student here."

"student"

"Yeah, whatever." Ayukawa lazily replied as she looked over the office
decor. "You know you really should remodel this place, it's so boring to
look at after all this time."

This caused the vice-principle to stumble and lose his train of thought

"principal"

for a second, before it came back full force. "HOW CAN YOU COMMENT ON
SOMETHING LIKE THAT AT A TIME LIKE THIS!!!!!!"

"I'm just pointing it out, it is drab."

"It doesn't matter if it's drab," the vice-principal exclaimed, "What
matters is that your record of delinquency is deplorable. If you keep
this up we'll have no choice but to expel you. I would of done it sooner

"would have"

if it wasn't for your parents."

Madoka quickly stood at that comment and started to walk towards the
door. "Wait, I haven't finished yet! Ayukawa-san!!"

"Well I've finished listening," Madoka coldly replied as she opened the
door to leave.

"Wait! Damn it, why can't you be more like Mizuno Ami! Now there is a
model student."

I'm sorry, but I have trouble believing that Madoka would get in
trouble for saving Mizuno's butt.

"So sorry I'm not a genius," she answered tersely, before slamming the
door closed.

"Ohh!!! That vice-principal just burns me up!!" Hikaru shouted as she
wolfed down some of her bento lunch box. "I wish he knew what it was like

Madoka was silent as Hikaru finished of her rant, her eye's drifting off

across the sports field as she watched the soccer clubs lunch practice
>from the top of the school. She barely touched her lunch as she watched
the team pass the ball back and forth up the field.

"Madoka-san?"

"Madoka-san?"

"MADOKA-SAN!!!" Hikaru yelled into the ear of her friend, "Are you okay?"

"I'm okay," she replied as she got up and started to walk down the
stairs, "I mean I don't need to be a genius to be okay."

"Eh?"

"It's nothing Hikaru, it's nothing." And with that she jumped up from her
seat and started towards the roof exit. "I've got to do some thinking,
okay Hikaru." she said as she opened the door and started to walk down
the stairs, leaving a concerned Hikaru on the roof.

"Madoka-san..."

Margaret slumped in front of her crystal ball, a sullen look on her face.
"I'm not sure if I can do this test father. And I'm not sure I can rely
on this person to help me pass."

"Ah! There you are!!!" A cheerful voice exclaimed from behind Margaret,
causing her to turn around quickly. It was her magic broom Chappy,
floating in beside her in the air. "I've been looking all over the place
for you. Are you ready to go meet your double tonight?"

"I suppose so, though I don't know how well it will go," Margaret
answered in a gloomy voice, "my double just seems like such an unreliable
person."

"Ahh, don't trust that crystal ball Margaret. To get a real understanding
of a person you have to meet them face to face."

"Yeah, I know. But still!!"

"Well let me take a look at her through the crystal ball," Chappy
suggested as he floated over to the Crystal ball and took a good deep
look into it. "Ahh...She's seems to be playing the Saxophone Margaret. I
love the Saxophone!!"

Don't capitalise randomly.

"Would you love to know that she was in the middle of a fight this
morning?"

"Ahh, it just proves she's full of energy," Chappy replied, "I like her,
I can feel her emotion coming from the music itself. I think she'll work
out fine Margaret."

"I dunno ."

"Oh come on, let's at least go meet her before you go and think the worst."

Margaret slowly stood up, and took one last look at the crystal ball
before speaking. "Okay, let's go!"

"Yippee, I'll meet you by the balcony!!" The broom cheered as it flew out
of the room leaving Margaret all alone. She started to leave before she
took one last look at the crystal ball. "I hope it does work out, I hope
it does."

Wisps of steam escaped the bathroom as Madoka opened the door wrapped in
her bath towel. She slowly started to walk her way towards her room at a
leisurely pace, most of the day's worries washed away with the dirt by
the shower. As she entered her room she sat down on her chair and reached
out for a cigarette so she could forget the worries that were still with her.

"Damn it, what's so special about Genius girl," she muttered as she lit

"Genius-Girl"

her cigarette and inhaled deeply on it. "It's not like it's difficult to
be a genius, she doesn't have to put up with the stuff I have to." Madoka
cursed to herself, as she leaned back in the chair, placing the cigarette
to the side. Her eyes focused on her telephone answering machine, the
blinking message on it still unheard.

But she had a good idea of what the content was, it was probably her

parents phoning into say their tour got extended yet again. The tour
always got extended, Madoka noted, since her parents always played to
rave reviews and packed houses. And they never wanted to disappoint the
paying customers, even if it meant letting their own daughter down.

She wondered if Genius girl had to put up with having no parents around.

"Genius-Girl"

She probably had both of them behind her, pushing her to be the best yet
at the same time helping her when she needed the help. She probably
didn't have to fight day in and day out like Madoka had to do almost
everyday. Challengers from almost every high school sought out the
legendary Ayukawa Madoka to prove their skills as fighters. And Madoka
never backed down from a fight, no matter what it meant to her reputation.

Well...because of what it meant to her reputation, really.

"I wonder if Mizuno Ami has to put up with that, Eh Pokota?" Madoka asked
her stuffed lion with a smile on her face. She placed her hand on it's
head and had it shakes head in the negative, causing Madoka to gently
laugh. "I thought so."

And with that Madoka leapt up from the chair, stretching her arms like
she was trying to reach the roof. She needed a good meal to cheer her up,
she thought, and she had enough fresh ingredients to make a nice but
simple curry. She started to leave her room when she heard a gentle knock
on her window causing her to pause.

"Ahh, it's just the wind," she muttered as she turned to leave the room
only to hear another knock on the window, only this time it was louder.
"I wonder what that could be?"

Quickly she reached over for a few of her guitar picks, and made her way
over to the window. She paused and waited for another knock, which soon
came and was also accompanied with a rather audible "Mou". It was at that
moment that Madoka threw the window open, and turned to launch a guitar
pick at the face of the would be mugger. And as she let it go she got a

"would-be"

good look at the face of the person she was throwing at, and for a second
Madoka looked on in shock.

Because the person she threw the projectile at was sitting on a broom
floating in mid-air. But that wasn't what shocked her, it was the fact
the person on the broom looked exactly like her except for the fact she
had short hair.

"Hello, I'm Princess Marg-OWW" the girl on the broom cried as the pick
impacted directly with her forehead. She started to flail around on the
broom, her body moving from side to side before she finally slipped off.

"WAHHHH!!!" She cried as she started to fall, only to have her descent
stopped as quickly as it began. As she looked up she saw that her hand
was not by her broom but by the hand of her double and attacker. "Chappy,
HELP ME UP!!" She yelled at full volume as she tried her best not to look
down.

"Y...Yes Margaret!" the broom exclaimed as it floated down to Margaret,
gently picking her up as Madoka let go of her hand. Chappy then floated
inside Madoka's room, allowing Margaret to get of and slump in a chair.

"Oh my god, I'm so sorry about that. I thought you were a robber or
something!" Madoka said in an apologetic voice as she bowed to Margaret.

"You see Margaret, I told you we should of used the front door."

"Oh be quiet Chappy!" Margaret snapped back at her broom, "My father used
that method when he met his double so I thought it was part of tradition."

"Umm, excuse me," Madoka interrupted with a curious tone in her voice,
"But who are you two and why and how were you floating in front of my
Window." Madoka paused for a moment, she swore she was forgetting

something else important. "Oh yeah, and why do you look like me?"

"Well I was getting to that before you threw this plastic object into my
forehead."

"Sorry," Madoka apologized again, this time with a deeper bow.

"Anyway," Margaret continued, her anger fading a bit, "As I started to
say, I'm Princess Margaret from the magic Kingdom. I've come to give you,

Madoka: You're from Disneyland?

my double, a magic item I have designed as part of my test to prove that
I am worthy enough to become the next ruler of the magic Kingdom." A

"Magic Kingdom"

short pause soon followed as Margaret caught her breath. "Man did that
come out awkward, I knew I should of trimmed it down a bit."

Madoka just looked on with a confused look on her face. "Magic Kingdom,
are you guys serious? There is no such thing as magic!"

"Then how do you explain the talking broom then?"

"Hello Ayukawa-san, My name is Chappy!" the broom politely introduced
itself complete with a bow.

Madoka: You're an esper ventriloquist?

Margaret: Don't be silly. There's no such thing as ventriloquists.

This of course caused Madoka to pause and think for a second, the broom
was talking and floating in her room. And she was pretty sure that it was
not possible for a common household broom to float and talk at the same
time. Without the help of magic that is...

"Okay, so maybe you are magical and all,"

"Of course we're magical!" The pair exclaimed in unison.

"So you are magical, But that still doesn't explain why she looks like
me."

"Oh that's simple," Margaret replied in her best school teacher voice, "
you see everyone in the magic kingdom has a look alike on the planet
Earth. It's how the two world are related and all."

"worlds"

"I still don't get it," Madoka admitted as she look at the magic pair
with a confused expression.

"Oh, well I did have trouble with that part of school so," Margaret
nervously laughed, ignoring the sweat drops both Madoka and Chappy had at
that moment. "Anyway, that doesn't really matters is the fact you get a
magical item which you can use to in your day to day life."

"I'm sorry but I'm not interested."

"And you can use it in any variety," Margaret paused as she was finally
able to listen to Madoka's reply. "Excuse me but did you say you weren't
interested in being a Magical girl?"

"magical girl" or "Magical Girl"

"You heard me, I'm not interested." Madoka coldly replied to the
question. The room than remained silent for a few seconds as Margaret
developed a full sweat drop. And almost as quickly as the silence began
it was broken as Margaret exploded in a full blown display of anger.

"What, what, what!?! You don't want to be given a magical item!! But
every girl in Tokyo dreams of being a magical girl."

Silence once again seized the room after the outburst, the sweat drops
still present on Chappy and Margaret. Calmly, Madoka sat down in her
chair and lit another cigarette, taking a long puff before she responded
to the outburst. "I'm sorry but I don't have the time to put up with
being a Magical girl. I have other more important things to take care of
at this time.

"But...But...But"

"I'm sorry but that is my final decision," Madoka added rather bluntly, "
Sorry if I'm letting you down."

"Oh come on Madoka-chan, give it a chance!" another voice added in, a
voice different than Chappy's and Margaret. A voice which perplexed
Madoka.

"Who is that?"

"Why I'm surprised you don't know me, I've been with you since you were a
kid Madoka-chan!" the voice exclaimed in a slightly hurt voice. Madoka
quickly turned around to see the source of the voice, which seemed to be
coming from near the bed. But the only things on the bed were the stuffed
animals.

"Nice to meet you Madoka-chan, I'm Pokota!!" The stuffed animal waved
towards Madoka, "Please won't you think twice about helping out
Margaret-chan."

"Pokota!!! How can you..How can you.."

But before Madoka could finish her question Margaret leaped in with the
explanation. "Well you see if you do decide to test the magic item you'll
pick up somebody to help you out, an assistant if you will. That
assistant is Pokota-san, who I have brought to life for you."

"It'll be a pleasure to work with you Madoka-san!"

Another silence soon followed, as Madoka looked around at all of the
people in the room. She just couldn't handle this level of weirdness, not
with the other stuff going on in her life. "I'm sorry.."

Pokota interrupted Madoka's response though, a wicked look in his eye,
"Are you sure about this, I mean if you keep this up I'm afraid I'll have
to tell some stories about your childhood. Including the time that you.."

"You couldn't know about that, You wouldn't tell them about that, would
you?" Madoka yelled, full of panic.

"Sore wa himetsu Desu," Pokota laughed in reply.

"Okay, Okay," Madoka sighed as she gave up, knowing full well that she
probably couldn't win this argument. "I'll do it, I'll become a magical
girl for you Margaret."

I don't much like that way of convincing Madoka.

"WAI!!!" The three cheered in unison, "Thank you very much Madoka!!!"

"Yeah, yeah. So what exactly is the magic item you want me to test out?"

All of sudden Margaret started to laugh evilly, her laugh filling the
room. "Only the greatest Magic item ever developed in the history of the
Magic Kingdom. BEHOLD THE MAGIC RIBBON!!!" Margaret pointed to the sky
as the a ribbon and necklace appeared out of thin air. The ribbon was a
simple orange one, with a ruby red jewel in the middle. The necklace
itself was also a simple gold chain along with a jewel red center.

"What do they do?" Madoka asked as she watched the ribbon float down
beside her.

"Why with this ribbon you can turn into anybody you want!"

"Really?"

"Really!", Margaret exclaimed, "Just put the ribbon and necklace on and
say Parallel Parallel turn me into whoever ni nare while looking into a
mirror."

Slowly Madoka put the ribbon on , just to humor the girl. Even if she was
magic it was impossible for anybody to turn into another person. She
picked up the mirror on her desktop and looked into it for a few seconds
before she started her transformation phrase. "Here we go," she said in a
less than enthusiastic voice, "Parallel Parallel Turn me into Hikaru-chan
ni nare!"

Oh good. Give that power to a budding juvenile delinquent. I'm sure
she'll find a responsible use for it.

Almost immediately after finishing the incantation Madoka began to feel
weird all over. Although she couldn't describe it Madoka felt some weird
force surrounding her and starting to envelope her. It traveled up and
down her body and when it was finished, it vanished leaving Madoka
feeling very much out of wack.

"Whoa," she said as she looked into the mirror and saw that the
reflection given back wasn't her but was that of her best friends Hikaru.
"My god, it does work."

"You see I told you!!"

"I really do look like Hikaru-chan!" Madoka exclaimed, trying to imitate
Hikaru's cheerful attitude.

"Now you need to change back, all you have to say is Rurerapa Rurerapa
Turn me back to normal nare while looking into a mirror. Okay?"

"Okay, Rureapa Rureapa turn me back to normal nare!" Upon finishing
Madoka felt like all of the magic was flowing away from her, leaving her
rapidly. And in a flash the reflection was back to her normal one.

She turned to the mirror and saw that she was back to normal.

"Now a few more things before I leave. First off you can only stay
transformed for an hour at a time. The necklace will beep and warn you if
your running out of time."

"And what happens if I go past an hour?"

"I dunno what would happen," Margaret casually responded, causing Madoka
to sweat drop, "But it won't be pretty. And the next thing is that nobody
may know about the magic item or the magic Kingdom."

"I understand."

"Good luck then, and thank you Madoka!" Margaret exclaimed as she hoped
on Chappy and started to fly out. "I'll be checking up on you now and
then to see if you need help so don't worry."

"Do your best Ayukawa-san!!" Chappy added as they started to fly out the
window, leaving only Pokota and Madoka in the room.

"Well that was weird," Madoka said as she took the ribbon and necklace
off and placed them on the side. "But they're gone now so I don't have to
worry about them anymore."

"Eh, what do you mean Madoka-chan?"

"I mean I'm not gonna use their so called magic item," Madoka tersely

What does she mean "so-called"?

replied, " I have enough to worry about beyond being a magic girl."

"But you said.."

"I agreed to take the item, not use it. Now if you'll excuse me I'm going
to cook supper." And with that, Madoka left the room slamming the door
behind her.

"Madoka-chan"

****

The very next morning...

"AYUKAWA-SAN!!! Your late yet again, how can still do foolish things like

"You're"

this with the record you have. You keep this up and no high-school in
Japan will take you, even Tomobiki. Mou...What can't you be more like
Mizuno-san!!!"

Madoka sighed as she slouched in the chair, her eyes staring at the
distant sky through the office window. She wondered why the
Vice-Principal hadn't gotten sick of yelling at her after all this time,
especially considering the results it had produced so far. Plus the man
had no idea about how life was on the streets for someone like her because
if she backed down from one fight her entire reputation would be ruined.
The legend of the Pick would disappear and a whole list of thugs and gang
leaders would be looking for her to gain revenge for a defeat by someone
as dishonorable as her.

The tirade by the principal finally ended, much to Madoka's joy. It was
already half way through the first class of the morning by the time she
was freed that Madoka decided to skip the rest of the mornings classes.
She was too angry to learn, she reasoned as she made her way to one of
her few sources of anger relief.

Madoka peered through the music room window and saw that the place was
mostly empty. A smile appeared on her face for the first time today as
she saw this and it grew as she entered the class room. The music teacher
was one of the few members of the staff that actually liked Madoka and as
such he let her use the room outside of normal class times. She repaid
this respect by doing the odd favor for the Sensei, including running the
odd errands for him to just simply playing various pieces for him after
school.

Quickly Madoka surveyed the room, looking for the one instrument out of
the bunch she most liked to play. It was there in the special corner,
still untouched from where she last left it. It was hers and hers alone,
and she made sure that it was common knowledge among the other music
students at the school. Because that Saxophone right there had special
meaning for Ayukawa Madoka, and it had been with her for years. Through
thick and thin, through the worst of times to the best of times. She
smiled slightly, remembering when she first got it, it was the day
after she had her first kiss. A day she would remember for ever...

She gently picked the instrument up from it's storage space and opened up
the case, quickly inspecting the Saxophone by force of habit. A slight
frown appeared on her face as she spotted a small tarnished space near
the bottom of the instrument and she made a note to herself to polish the
spot later. However nothing else was wrong and the reed of the instrument
was still in wonderful shape. She sat herself done gently on the chair,
in front of one of the many music stands in the room. It was empty, but
she needed no sheet music for the song she was about to play. For she was
about to play from the heart.

The concert started and seemed to carry on forever, at least it seemed
that way for Madoka when she played. For when she let the music free from
her soul and let it flow through the Saxophone she lost all track of
time. A song may take 2 to 10 minutes for her to perform or it could take
up to an hour sometimes, but for Madoka it all felt the same. Because for
all of her songs she was letting lose her emotions, freeing them at the

odd chance that someone could understand and empathize with what she was
going through.

And so she let herself go, oblivious to the whole world around her. The
only thing there was her music, the Saxophone, and the stuffed Lion

watching on in with a look of awe on his face.

Madoka stopped her performance at that, wondering just how a stuffed lion
could be looking at her like that. Then she remembered, Pokota came to
life last night thanks to the crazy witch Margaret from the Magic
Kingdom. And he had followed her to school by hiding away in her bag.
Suddenly the anger started to rise in her, as one stuffed animal was
going to be taught a lesson about following her to school. After all she
didn't need everyone finding out that she was supposed to be some sort of
magic girl, even though Madoka had no intention of ever using the magic
Ribbon.

"Bravo, Bravo," Pokota clapped, ignoring the daggers Madoka's eyes were
throwing his way, "That was a beautiful performance".

"Thank you, now would you mind telling me why you are here Pokota"

Question mark.

"I'm here to look after you Madoka-chan," Pokota nodded as he suddenly
looked all serious, " That's what I was created for and that's what I'm
going to do."

"I don't need anyone to look after me," she tersely replied, slowly
placing her Saxophone back in it's case.

"Then why are you skipping your morning classes then?"

"Because..."

"Because why?"

"Because...That's all," Madoka plainly said leaving no more room for
Pokota to argue the subject.

So the stuffed animal looked for other areas to broach, "That music was
beautiful, what were you playing?"

"Just something I made up," she quickly got up and placed the instrument
back in it's storage space, "Anyway I've got to get you home before you
cause any more trouble so back in the bag."

"But, but, I just got here!!!!"

"That's enough," Madoka sternly said, though she had a gentle smile on
her face. "I don't need to get lectured by the Vice-Principal anymore or
about how I should be more like Genius Girl."

"You mean Mizuno Ami?"

"Yeah, Mizuno Ami," Her face darkened a bit as she said her name, "The
little goodie-two shoes who has everyone giving her everything on a
silver platter. Especially people like my Vice-Principal."

"Then why don't you turn into her with the ribbon then?"

Madoka stopped when she heard this, her turn into the Genius Girl. It
wasn't possible was it, she thought before she remembered that she turned
exactly into Hikaru the other night, even her voice was like hers.

"Just think, for once you could have a nice peaceful after school,"
Pokota continued, "And even have that Vice-Principal be good to you for once."

"Well I don't know," she muttered as she thought things over, "It would
be nice to have an afternoon where I won't get picked on by the staff or
the others." And I can also muddy up Genius girls reputation a bit,
Madoka added to herself evilly.

"Then it's settled then, after school your going to be Mizuno Ami for an
hour!!!"

"Okay, I'll do it!!!" Madoka exclaimed as she smiled down to Pokota.
She'd have the time of her life after school, finally being able to have
the easy road for once. After all what could go possible go wrong for
someone the Vice Principal called perfect. She'd show them how perfect
she could be, she'd show them how easy it would be to Mizuno Ami.

And if Pokota wasn't in the room at that time, Madoka would have taken
the time to break out into a hearty evil laugh.

The hallways of the school were pretty empty, even if it was after
school. There would usually be at least one or two clubs doing after
school activities inside the building. But with the nice weather out most
people decided to go outside and enjoy the rest of the day. Even the
people who were stuck with the daily cleaning duties had left early
leaving their duties sloppily done.

Madoka had a smile on her face as she looked at the empty hallways from
inside the bathroom, she actually enjoyed being at school when it was
empty. The building had a certain amount of charm to it for a school
building and when it was free of the noisy teachers and students that
charm came out easily.

"Hurry up Madoka-chan!!! We don't want anyone else coming in here while
your transforming!"

"All right Pokota," Madoka sighed as she closed the door, "Don't worry
the coast is clear so I doubt will have in one coming in while we're
doing this."

"But it you can never be too safe, who knows what may happen when you let
your guard down."

"Okay, Okay Pokota," Madoka replied half heartily as she made her way
over to the mirror. She sighed as she took a close look at herself before
she placed the ribbon on top of her head. Taking a deep breath, she
started her transformation phrase. "Parallel Parallel Turn me into Mizuno
Ami ni nare."

The magic once again flowed across her, covering her entire body. It
felt like she was under water for a few seconds but yet she could still
breathe while being under it. And then it disappeared, leaving her alone
in the bathroom.

Slowly she opened her eyes and took a look in the mirror, only to see the
eyes starring back at her weren't hers. Staring back were light blue eyes
highlighted by the thin frame of a pair of glasses. Her school uniform

Glasses? Why glasses?

had also changed, away from the dark colour schemes of her school to a
white and blue coloured one.

Madoka just stared at the sheet, not really reading any questions. Did
she really want to go through with this, take a math test on such a sunny
day. Normally she wouldn't, but today she was Genius Girl, she was Mizuno
Ami. And she was out to show the world how easy it was for her to do the
things she did. And she had one way to do it, and that was to ace this
very math test itself.

A wicked grin crossed her face, her determination becoming rock hard as
she raised her pencil. It would be Ayukawa Madoka who would ace this
test, and it would be an A that would probably perplex Genius girl for

That's absurd. Surely Madoka realises that she isn't a genius and she
isn't going to be able to ace the exam, no matter what she looks like.

True, she doesn't realise how much work goes into being a genius, but
she won't realise it by flunking a test that she could easily flunk in
any form. It would be more useful for Madoka to have to have to
realise how much time and effort Ami puts into "being a genius" by
getting a taste of her schedule.

the rest of her life as she wondered just how she got an A on a test that
wasn't in class to take. An A achived by Madoka herself.

"achieved"

The journey outside was soon stopped as she ran into a group of teenaged
boys, all of them average build and height. They seemed to have a cocky
look on their face and looked none too pleased at having been run into.
Madoka would of loved to spend a few seconds adjusting their attitudes,

"would have"

but she had more pressing things to do so she just quickly broke free of
his grasp and started running to her home.

"Hey!! What's your hurry Genius, got rush home to your only friends," The

"What's your hurry, Genius? Got to rush home to all your friends?"

leader of the punks managed to taunt before Madoka could run out of
hearing distance. "Oh I forgot, your only friends are books and your
computer."

Madoka's blood started to boil and she seriously thought about going back
to tear that idiot a new rear end, ten minutes or no ten minutes. But
common sense prevailed and Madoka decided to head on her way home.

"Go on, run away! After all your too good for us, aren't you Genius
Girl!!" The punk yelled as Madoka faded into the horizon. Her run was at
all full speed and she tried not to pay attention to any of the comments
the hooligans used, but her eyes became watery as she turned the corner
and headed into her house.

****

"You really cut it close there, Madoka-chan!" Pokota lectured sternly
in-between his yawns. "And you woke me up as we were running too!!!"

"I'm sorry," Madoka calmly said as she placed the ribbon in necklace in
her dresser, probably never to be used again. "It's just I had to get out
of there or else the worse would happen according to Margaret."

"Well just don't let it happen next time,"

"There won't be a next time," Madoka replied as she headed into the
bathroom, her hands full with a change of clothes She paused in front of
the mirror and took a long look at herself, everything seemed to be back
to normal for the most part. She looked and sounded exactly like Ayukawa
Madoka, and that's all that mattered.

And besides, she added to herself, those punks were picking on Mizuno Ami
and not me. And she deserves the taunts, she tried to convince herself
half heartedly. But those comments had hurt her deeply, especially the
Genius Girl one. It wasn't really the words, it was the way they said
them, like I was less than dirt, Madoka thought to herself as she looked
in the mirror. "Is that the way I treated Ami?" She asked out loud, not
really expecting an answer.

Her mind did answer though, and it was a loud and resounding yes. Just by
looking at the small test Madoka had tried to take today she found out
that it wasn't easy to pull high marks on tests.

She already knew that.

And she noted that
nobody deserved to be treated like dirt, by anyone. Her face went dark at
that thought, knowing full well she became a bully she didn't really want
to be.

"I'm really sorry for how I acted Mizuno-san," she said sincerely as she
bowed deeply to Ami, "I acted wrong and I'm sorry for it."

"I behaved badly"

A stunned Ami could manage a "It's Okay," before she watched Madoka walk

off into the red coloured horizon.

Delete "coloured". Redundant.

A large smile appeared on Madoka's face as she jogged along the street,
her worries being put to rest for now at least. She had no idea how
cleansing that apology to Ami would be, and how much it made her feel
better to use Mizuno-san to address her instead of what she used to. It
was just a start of course, but it was a good start and it at least made
Madoka feel better.

The smile grew as she approached the favorite part of her walk, the top
of the biggest stairwell in the district. Climbing up and down those
steps often made her feel all right deep down, it helped to clear her
thoughts and also helped her make the tough decisions that needed to be
made. And sometimes it just wasted away the day, as she counted all 99 of
the steps on the stair well.

Just then the strength of the breeze picked up, turning into a full gust
of gale force winds for a second. Reaching to her head to hold on to the
hat, Madoka found that she was too late to save it as it went flying
through her fingertips as it sped towards the stairs.

Quickly she ran over to the start of the stairs to see if she could look
for the hat. And in an instant she found it, as it seemed to be moving up
the stairs. A big smile appeared on her face as she saw who was wearing
the hat, a young boy seemingly near her age who was walking up the stairs
and counting them at the same time.

"95, 96, 97, 98, 99, 100!" he finished with a flourish, oblivious towards
the lone member of his audience.

"It's 99," Madoka said, causing him to turn around quickly. Her smile
grew slightly when he saw his face turn red when he finally saw her.
"That stairwell has 99 steps in it."

"Well I just went up it and I counted 100," the boy said, his previous
embarrassment soon forgotten.

"I've went up and down numerous times and I've only counted 99 steps!"

"Well then how about this then, we'll say the stairwell has 99.5 steps?"
the boy offered with a smile, causing Madoka to laugh gently.

"Okay, that makes sense."

"Umm, is the hat yours?"

She took a look at the hat, and for a moment felt as if it suited the boy
for some reason.

I doubt it. Madoka just thought the sight of him wearing the hat was
funny.

Like it was a part of him, even though the hat was
really a girls one. "No," she answered, "You can go ahead and have it. It
looks cute on you!!" She exclaimed as she ran down the stairs, leaving
the boy almost as red as the hat.

He stood there for a few minutes, looking at the hat and looking at the
stairs with a distant look in his eyes before he realized one thing. "Oh
no, I didn't get her name!!!"

*****

"Margaret," Chappy said as he poked the still form of the Princess,
"Margaret it's time for dinner."

But Margaret didn't move, her gaze was locked on the crystal ball, her
face a stone sculpture of the terror and shock she was feeling.

What's the problem?

"Margaret, things turned out okay for the most part so come let's go
eat!!" the broom exclaimed as it floated around Margaret's face. He tried
to make funny faces at her, he tried poking her all over the place and he
even tried doodling all over her. But nothing rouse her from the state of
shock she was in.

"Mou....I'm going to eat now! If you don't hurry up I'll eat all of you
favorites.." Chappy yelled as it floated out of the room. But Margaret
still didn't move, her eyes still remained locked on the vision of
Ayukawa Madoka for the rest of the night.

End Chapter 1...

My problem is that the ability to impersonate doesn't seem especially
useful for a girl like Madoka. I assume the original character was a
younger, more playful girl who enjoyed assuming adult characters.
