Bug hunt 4
Kidnapped and forced into service.
Goku stood in front of a large and angry looking black man with a wide
brimmed hat who glared at him, Ranma, and Tenchi as if they where the
most evil beings on the planet. "I am Drill Sergeant Fisher. Today you
little shits belong to me, we are going to work and toil all day long
until I finally get tired. Do you understand me?!!"
The three team members where dressed in camouflage uniforms with Kevlar
helmets and large ruck sacks; they all stood staring straight ahead with
their arms locked behind their backs and their feet spread apart. "Yes
Drill Sergeant!" they barked in perfect unison.
"To start the morning off we are going to run five miles, then we are
going to go to breakfast chow, after that, more PT training; that's right
push ups, sit ups, knee benders, side straddle hops. Any thing my sick
and thoroughly twisted mind can think of, and you know what? Your gonna
like it, or I'll make you do more. Hell I'll probably make you do more
anyway!"
The Drill started to jog away and turned to face them, not one of them
had moved yet. "Group! Attention! Right face! For-ward March! Double
time!!!" the Drill Sergeant spat out the orders quickly and the three of
them followed suit instantly.
"I hate this." grumbled Goku as he jogged and kept up with the Sergeant
and his peers easily.
The two behind him sucked in a quick breath in shock at his words. The
drill turned on his heels and Goku slammed to a stop directly in front of
the man barely avoiding a collision. "What did you say son?" snarled the
man.
"Drill Sergeant, I said I hate this." Goku looked straight ahead and
assumed the position of parade rest in front of the much larger man.
"Any one here who was drafted, shanghaied, or forced into military
service please raise your hands." The man turned to see Goku's companions
standing silently unmoving. "All right, that means you where all
volunteers doesn't it?! Each and every one of you asked to join the ranks
of the United States Armed forces, the most highly trained military force
on the face of the entire planet!!" Tenchi and Ranma both made barking
noises and the Drill nodded gravely in agreement with himself. "That's
right now I suggest that you..." the man trailed off on his motivational
speech as he noticed Goku standing with his hand high into the air. "What
in the fuck are you doing son?"
"Drill Sergeant, you asked anyone who was drafted, shanghaied, or forced
into military service to raise their hands."
"What are you saying boy?!! Did your mommy put a gun to your head and
make you sign enlistment papers or something? Did she drag you here and
make you..."
Goku interrupted the man. "Yes Drill Sergeant, actually they where
members of the 101st infantry. The came to my house and woke me up at
three o'clock in the morning, dragged me out of bed and brought me here;
as far as I can recall I haven't signed any papers. Does that about cover
it Drill Sergeant?" he was looking directly into the man's eyes and
frowning. "I've been a good sport about this for almost a week now, I
don't need basic combat training and I don't need this stupid military
life; I am a computer programmer and a martial artist, I'm never going to
use a grenade launcher or an M-16! What the hell am I doing here?!" he
turned and headed back for the barracks walking calmly away from the much
larger man.
"Where the fuck do you think your going boy! I didn't give you
permission to..." the Drill stopped cold when Goku slammed his fist into
a building creating a large hole in the wall.
"I'm sorry Sergeant, I really am; I like you and you'd do more with a
group of privates than a man like me could teach someone in a life time;
but the simple fact is this isn't helping me. These units aren't designed
for this type of training, I'll get stronger no matter what I do. We need
combat experience not basic training! It's the only way we'll get any
stronger, these two have already done this anyway, why do it again? For
my sake? It's a waste of my time and yours, I'm not going to put up with
this any longer," the man rose from the ground and floated upwards
causing the Drill to gape at him in shock.
"What the fuck?!" cried the man.
"Sergeant Fisher. I'm sorry about him, but what you just saw is
classified information, that's all we can say." Tenchi spoke softly and
frowned, he knew the man and their commanders meant well, but Goku was
right.
"I know this is a classified operation!" snarled the man as he turned to
see the other two walking away as well. "What the fuck is going on here?"
he screamed.
"What the hell do you think your doing?!!" shouted the Major. "Walking
away from a training exercise?!! Disrespecting an NCO?"
"Shut up, these two may have to take this crap from you, but I don't. I
don't care what you've fabricated for my records I am not a member of the
Army and I never will be." Goku shoved the man into he seat across the
desk and glared at him.
Tenchi and Ranma gasped and moved to restrain him only to be tossed
aside like dolls. "Look at me Major, I don't like you. I don't work for
you, and you need me. I make the rules as far as my actions are
concerned. These two might be able to handle Ryoga, or Saffron, maybe
even Bison and Kagato, I'm not sure; but if Nappa and Vegita get a hold
of them your little project will be over and they will simply take over
this planet or destroy it. For god's sake stop cowering I'm not going to
hurt you! The simple fact is I can do whatever I want and there is
nothing you can do to stop me. If you want my help your going to have to
stop sticking your head up your ass and start using what you've got
instead of performing time wasting activities that don't help us! If you
had bothered to ask I would have told you basic training is useless for
the three of us, especially since the two of them are already Army. I
need martial arts practice for this thing! The kind of training you can't
give me, only the other units will build my strength up to full power."
The officer behind the desk snorted and tried to compose himself. "What
the hell are you suggesting? That these exercises are beneath you or
something? That the hard core training of millions of soldiers isn't good
enough for you?!!"
"You catch on quick don't you?" Goku sat on the man's desk and leaned
towards him. "Look I'll put it simply, have you ever read a Superman
comic book?"
"What the hell are you babbling about?! I'm going to have you thrown
in..." screamed the man as he slammed his fist onto a small intercom.
Goku extended his palm and blasted the small device with a small beam,
the Major pulled his hand away in shock. "I am more powerful than
Superman could ever hope to be, I'm stronger, faster, more agile than any
super hero comic you have ever read in your boy hood. I'm sure that you
know how powerful these suits can be, possibly even to the point where
you could recite the parameters of the battery output levels or other
useless crap, but the simple fact is you have three super hero's standing
in your office that have to fight off an army of super villains and your
trying to put them through basic training for normal human beings. It's a
joke, it's a waste of time and I'm not going to stand for it."
"Are you finished yet?" asked Ranma as she finally stood from the blow
she had received.
The Major snarled at Goku angrily. "Then what do you suggest?"
"I'm not suggesting anything, we can't operate with the military any
longer. You're out dated and obsolete training and resources are useless
to us now. We don't need you, simple matter is, and the only reason I'm
still here is the fact that you can help keep Curtis out of their hands.
You can either support us and let us train on our own, I'm sure my
comrades would prefer that; or you can try to arrest me, I'll easily get
away taking the other two units with me as well as Curtis leaving you
defenseless against Vegita and his men. I'll fight him either way and
nothing you can do will prevent it."
"Your making demands?" the Major leaned back in his chair and managed to
make himself look even angrier.
"No, I'd be asking for something if that's what I'm doing, you can
either have our protection or not." Goku crossed his arms and stood
glaring at the man.
"I'm not so sure if this is such a good idea," muttered Tenchi
nervously.
Ranma was smiling and shushed him. "I think he's going to cave."
The Major smiled. "You can go, these two are still in the United States
Army, they stay no matter what you say, and don't think I'm going to make
this easy on you either."
Goku relaxed, "Heh, fool; they are programmed to follow my orders first
and foremost, if I say go they will come with me. You can't do anything
about it old man, as a matter of fact your not the man I should be
talking to about this at all are you? The General will be more than happy
to find out about this project and the wonderful fruits of your labors,
the Lt. Kernel would also be ecstatic about you allowing the only thing
standing between this base and total destruction to just fly away! I'm
sure they'd both be very pleased at the destruction of property that
would involve any attempt to stop us, even though it would be a useless
gesture on your part." Goku some how managed to radiate a friendly
attitude despite his threats through the whole conversation, a wide smile
was plastered on his lips and he chuckled to himself. "I could even use
it as a training exercise to get away without killing anybody!"
"Is that some sort of threat, I don't stand well to..." the Major got a
dark tone to his voice at these words.
"No, I'm quite serious; not a single man would die if we where to leave;
no matter how many you send to stop us or what kind of force you try to
use no one would die." Goku walked towards the door lazily. "So what's
your answer? Stay or go?"
"I could have your head for this! Do you have any idea how many laws
you've just broken?!" the man slammed his fists onto the desk angrily.
Tenchi and Ranma stood silently on either side of Goku waiting for the
decision.
"Well?" asked the Saiyan as his tail wagged slowly behind him.
"All right, what exactly do you want?" said the man as he pushed his
head onto the desktop in frustration. With everything he knew, there was
no chance of his men beating these things without their help.
"Nothing much, Basically I've just made a declaration of independence
from you Major, we'll work as mercenaries for you. What I want from you
is pay, lodging, and supplies; the training will be conducted within the
unit. I know enough to show them how to use their powers without getting
anyone killed. We work, train, and keep to ourselves. Curtis will give
you reports on our progress as well as keep you up to date on our
training and such. You keep us informed of Vegita and his group and when
it's all over, we simply part ways."
"Absolutely not! I'm not going to let this kind of power just..." the
Major turned red again as he stood up and started to shout again.
"I'm not giving you a choice Major. Get it approved or the three of us
walk. I'm not going to let any government get a hold of this kind of
power, plain and simple." Goku lead his comrades out the door.
The man scrambled to his desk and opened a pill bottle, he swallowed a
few and downed a drink. After a few moments of breathing he watched the
three exit his office and picked up the phone. "Get me some men."
"Tenchi, take Ranma and go get Curtis. I'm going to get ready to escape,
don't forget she can't really shield herself as well as you can." Goku
marched smartly down the hall with the other two keeping in step behind
him.
"Did you just do that on purpose?" asked Ranma.
"Yes and no, it was kind of an accident at first, but I started to
realize what would happen if we stayed here." Goku rubbed his forehead
and turned a corner.
"Well great now we don't have jobs, we are probably gonna get arrested."
Tenchi made a distasteful sigh as he said this.
"We don't have time to argue about it, if we stay Vegita and his goons
are gonna clean us up, we have to get away to where we can train and stay
out of sight for a while. If they team up on us we are finished, we've
got to pick our battles. Staying here would only make us a target." Goku
stopped and looked at the both of them. "You have to understand that the
Army thinks we can just hold out here forever because they have us! It
isn't like that! I can't beat Nappa and Vegita alone at my current
levels! We need time, and unfortunately that means the world is going to
do with out us for a while."
"I hope it can hold out," said Tenchi with a frown.
"We need to keep an eye on the Morrigan and Ryu units as well, with
their help we can fight them much more directly much sooner." Goku moved
into a small break room with a window, they were several floors up.
"You think they might help us?" asked Ranma coolly.
"Ryu probably will, especially to oppose Sagat and Bison, he'll have his
own reasons though; basically he is a good guy. Morrigan I'm not sure
about, she is sort of a heroic villain. She may decide to help them
instead of us."
"What do you mean basically?" asked Tenchi.
"It depends on the programming and when in the series it is. If it's
from V or Alpha, we might not be able to get him on our team. Any later
than two and he'll definitely help once the situation becomes clear,"
Goku blasted out the window.
"Alpha? Two? What the hell are you talking about?" Ranma seemed more
confused than ever.
"It's a long and complicated story, get going before they finally figure
out what's going on here. We've got to make good time or we'll have to
hurt some one to get away." the Saiyan grabbed a shard of glass and laid
his tail out on the table, with a quick slash his tail became separated
from his body and he grunted in pain. He staggered on his feet for a
moment before regaining his balance.
"Why did?" stammered Tenchi in shock.
"I'll tell you later, just go!" Goku jumped from the window and stared
off at the horizon, the powers he had sensed moving towards them this
morning where dangerously close. Things where going according to his
plan. "I just hope the military doesn't decide that we are the enemy too
once we get away."
Curtis frowned as Ranma and Tenchi burst into the room and grabbed him
by his coat. "What's going on here?"
"We are leaving." said Ranma.
"Is there anyone else in the lab?" Tenchi looked around and found the
room curiously empty.
"No, ever since the units escaped we've been shut down. No more
prototypes will be made until this thing calms down a bit." Ranma nodded
to Tenchi and drug the boy out the door, he complied a little reluctantly
and staggered. "What are you two doing?"
"Destroying anything Vegita might use," Tenchi grit his teeth and
several shields formed in front of him, he reached out with his hand and
a concentrated ball of energy formed before him, within a split second it
took the form of a sword. He grasped the handle of the energy blade and
raced across the room slashing at various computers and making a mess of
the building.
"No! My work!" screamed Curtis as he struggled and almost overpowered
Ranma. Goku arrived in time and blasted away from the building as Tenchi
completed his work carrying both of them beneath him.
"Some of Vegita's men are on their way, we have to leave now."
"What?! We need to stay and fight then!" cried Curtis.
"Use your head fool!! Even if we beat these men now they will only come
back in greater numbers! We can't fight them head on, we are not strong
enough yet!"
"Damn it John! I made you Son Goku so you could protect me and my work!"
Curtis struggled harder and kicked Goku in the legs as they flew.
The Saiyan stopped and landed gently tossing the scientist on the ground
roughly. "What happened the first time Goku fought Vegita Curtis?"
The man began to sob pathetically. "He won!!"
"He almost got beat to death, it's true that Vegita had to transform to
do it; but do you really think I can take Nappa, Bison, Ryoga, Saffron,
Herb, and Sagat on all at once?!! Even with these two it would be
suicide!" Goku's face was hard and very serious.
"If we want to stop these things we have to be ready! I hate this as
much as you do, but more than our pride is riding on this Curtis; this is
the entire world I'm talking about. Your too important to lose now,"
behind them the research building exploded in a huge ball of fire.
"Looks like Musaki found the propane tanks." muttered Ranma absently;
she was finding this whole affair rather disappointing and boring; Goku
noticed a few files stuffed under her arm and pushed it aside for the
moment.
"Where are we going?" asked the man as he stood up shakily and looked at
the remains of the building as they fell from the sky in the distance.
"Antarctica, then we'll split up and train individually, each of us will
train for six months keeping a low profile and raising our power levels.
Hopefully we'll be strong enough to fight by then, maybe we'll even find
Morrigan and Ryu and get them with us."
"Why Antarctica?" asked Ranma.
"Seclusion, and I have a friend there from college. A marine biologist
and working for the French government, I'm sure Dr. Wallberg will keep us
hidden and give us a place to crash when things get a little heated for
us; believe me when I say that they will too," Goku looked around and
frowned. "He's sure taking his sweet time."
"He's making sure; can this man you speak of be trusted." Ranma didn't
seem to think much about the idea.
"Yes," was Goku's only reply.
Tenchi Musaki emerged from the heat of the flames dramatically with a
sphere of power shielding him from the flames. He walked calmly out and
scared the hell out of a few military firefighters at the same time. The
crowd around the building gave him a wide berth as he rose into the air
and floated towards his comrades.
"Dr. all bullshitting aside, can Ranma fly?" Goku gave her an appraising
glance and turned back towards his old friend.
"Yes, Chi blast, shielding, and flight are all standard on the units;
that is with the exception of mine, I built it before I had military
funding; I'm strong, but I don't have any of the optional extras. They do
vary in power though, the shield won't be as effective for her, but she's
bulletproof; actually the only thing that can really hurt her is another
one of the units. It's even been tested for a nuclear blast, but never
field tested though so I wouldn't recommend trying."
"We'd better get moving." said Goku as he looked towards the sky in the
east.
"Hey! Where are we going?" cried Musaki as he followed them into the air
in confusion.
"Antarctica you flake." cried Ranma against the wind.
About ten minutes later three figures floated in the sky above the base.
"We have been expected." Saffron frowned as the small device on his head
beeped rapidly as it scanned the area around him. "None of the other
units are in the area."
"So you think they took him?" asked Ryoga as he scanned around.
"Yes, they seem to have vanished; it looks like they left without
permission as well," Herb spun around and flew off to return without her
companions.
"These things are nothing but useless toys, it's only good for a five
mile radius," Saffron pulled the visor from his ear and stuffed it into
his pocket. "I don't see why Vegita and Nappa like them so much."
"Saved us a bit of searching," said Ryoga as he turned to follow Herb.
"Searching would have been so much more satisfying. Oh well," finally he
turned and the pair of them flew away.
Vegita sat on a throne like chair deep within a mountain cave somewhere
in northern Europe. All around him various monitors and electronics where
being operated by hired mercenaries. "So, we were anticipated where we?"
His face became a vicious smirk.
"Too bad they where smart enough to run away, eh Vegita? Those two would
have been fun to play with," Nappa stood towering over his master with a
similar grin.
"It is of no consequence, we will still take the world. Now, nothing can
stand before us," Bison rose from his seat across the room from Vegita
and snarled as he looked into the video screens that showed satellite
photos of the planet.
"You are correct, without the laboratory or the Scientist no one will be
able to create more of these units. There is no longer any hope for the
world!" Kagato let out a chuckle from his place as he stood malevolently
over the soldiers in a large floating podium of his own design.
"Fools, we cannot repair damage to our units without him! He still has
the Washu unit, and he still lives!" Vegita gripped the edge of his chair
angrily.
"He is no longer with the Military, that much is clear. There is no way
he can get a hold of the facilities or the materials he needs to create
more; not without us noticing anyway. Besides, the Washu unit couldn't be
very powerful; he told me himself before we left that it wasn't a combat
unit like ours." Bison grinned as he held his hand up to the image of the
planet.
"We can't be sure of that though, he must be monitored. We'll keep an
eye out for him, but worrying about it won't help now. Besides, these
things are said to have a half-life of ten thousand years, what are we so
worried about? They appear to be very resilient."
"Very true, perhaps I am worrying about nothing; still, we mustn't let
our guard down; the Ranma and Tenchi units are still dangerous." Vegita
stood from his chair and turned away from the room. "I have a lot to
think about."
After he had walked out with Nappa following closely behind; Kagato and
Bison both frowned. "He is overly cautious," said Kagato.
"Yes, but we needn't worry about that now. Let him occupy himself, we
will stay our hands and wait until the world is ours, then we will
dispose of him. He is far to powerful for either of us to face alone."
Bison sneered and cast a hateful glare towards his companion.
Kagato noticed but said nothing, "The time will come for that as well
Bison."
TBC......
Not what you where expecting ne? Still true to the title though. This
ch. is heavy on words and absolutely no action, sorry it's set up stuff
for later. The real action begins next time as I start the six month
training voyages of the three hero's, but not before we meet the good Dr.
and take a short break in the Antarctic. Dr. Wallberg and Dr. Markson
have a history, as well as Goku before his Saiyan days. We will also
touch on who these people where before they became what they are, and
what they where like; as well as they're personal relationships with each
other.
Next time: Filed Memories.
