Bug Hunt part 2
The Attack begins...
Russian soldiers scurried around in a panic as the sirens blared. The
snow and ice stung at the hundreds of faces as they made a mad scramble
to awaken and prepare What they didn't know was that nothing in the world
could prepare them for what was coming. The explosions started on the
West side lighting up the night sky with a deadly fireball that sent an
orange glare across the surrounding area and caused the soldiers there to
stop cold and stare in wonder.
Two figures emerged unscathed from the flaming building and grinned
maniacally at the men before them. One of them was a man dressed in a
bright red military uniform of some sort. The other was a tall and
muscular bald man in unusual battle armor. The visor of the much larger
Saiyan unit beeped and calculated the combined force of the men before
him. "Pathetic," he chuckled as a few of them stepped back out of
instinctual fear. The man in red merely laughed and watched the soldiers
form up in front of him.
One of the soldiers took charge and screamed at the men in Russian. The
guns that had been pointed at the two finally opened fire and met with an
energy sphere that surrounded them. The shooting stopped abruptly and
some of the men began to run away in absolute terror.
"Nappa, why don't you teach these men what happens to deserters?" said
Bison with his grin never fading away.
"With pleasure," said the bald Saiyan as he pointed his two forefingers
upwards and screamed with effort. A ring of energy fifty meters in
diameter formed and blasted upwards vaporizing anything it touched save
Nappa and his companion.
"You shouldn't do that so close to the thermal nuclear devices Nappa,"
said Bison calmly as he frowned a little and glanced back behind them.
"Sorry, but we know that they probably won't hurt us too much anyway,"
replied Nappa with a shrug.
"But, we aren't sure, the electromagnetic pulse test didn't cover a blast
that strong; It could mess up our circuitry pretty badly if we aren't
careful. That would leave us vulnerable" said Bison angrily. "That's not
a risk I'm willing to take."
"Oh, don't be such a fuddy-duddy you old bat," growled Nappa. "Vegita
should be pleased that we got these things so cheap! I mean you can't
beat free," said Nappa as he shrugged yet again.
A heavy energy blast hit Nappa from above and he slammed into the ground
as an explosion shot Bison into the sky. He recovered in the air and
steadied his floating; he turned to see Vegita glaring at the both of
them.
"Fools! I told you to buy them!" he snorted as he landed next to where
Nappa was climbing from his impact crater.
"But Vegita, Why? We just stole a whole bunch!" said Nappa in confusion.
"Those Nukes are worthless without the detonation and arming codes!"
roared Vegita as he punched the larger Saiyan in the face. The
unfortunate giant was sent into the side of a hanger and dented the
building inward several feet.
"I understand why you would think him so stupid; but I find the fact
that you think I would not know this insulting," said Bison calmly.
"What do you mean?" growled Vegita as he turned to face the would be
general with a stern look.
"I have sent Sagat to obtain the general and a few key personnel who
would know the codes," said Bison simply.
"Who authorized this?" said Vegita as his face became deadly calm.
A few screams came from behind him and Vegita turned to see a tall and
pale looking man calmly slashing his way through another mess of soldiers
with an energy sword; their defense was stopped by a shield surrounding
him. "I did," he said as he calmly approached.
"Kagato, you would undermine my authority?" sneered the Saiyan.
"Of course, Bison and I are not programmed for following orders. It's
our nature to be deceptive," replied the man calmly as he pushed his
glasses up his face with a gloved hand.
"All right then it's in the open is it?" said Vegita with a strange
smile.
"We all know the others would betray us in a moment; however, it is in
all our best interest to work together until the world is comfortably
within our grasp. Then we'll decide who does what with it," said Bison as
he glared at a figure approaching from the West. He was dragging several
men with him and laughing to himself.
"It seems Sagat has succeeded," said Kagato with a snort. "I would have
thought better of you than that Vegita. Wasting money or resources is
unlike you."
"I am trying to keep Ryoga's support; he's still useful to us you know,"
said Vegita angrily to the gathered forces.
"He isn't helping us now," said Bison.
"I agree, he is likely to turn at the slightest provocation. He is
dangerous," agreed Kagato as he raised his hand and lifted the nukes off
the ground in an invisible sphere.
Nappa and Sagat simply frowned at the accusations. "He is our comrade, I
will vouch for him. Besides; Saffron and Herb are also absent from this
mission," said Sagat with a hard glare.
"The three of them have their own mission to take care of, I've heard
enough of this! You all know I am your superior in power. I thought that
it would be enough to keep you in line," said Vegita as he floated
upwards to view the carnage they had created.
"Apparently you were wrong, I will help you but in my own way and for my
own reasons Vegita," said Kagato arrogantly.
"Ryoga is your pet and your problem Saiyan, if he gets out of line I'll
destroy him," said Bison as he followed the others into the sky.
Sagat merely sighed as Nappa lifted him onto his shoulder with the
generals and floated of after them silently. The base below them slowly
began to recover from the attack, but it was far too late.
"What is this?" asked John as he walked down the hallway into yet
another lab. Curtis led the way and put a security card in another door.
"I thought you'd like to see just what I put into you," answered the man
calmly.
"That would be nice," said John honestly.
"Well, it's not really all that complicated," explained Curtis as he
walked over to a computer and typed in a few keys. A computer model of a
human being appeared on screen. Something that looked a bit like a beetle
with no legs appeared on the base of the spine and lines began to sprout
from it all across the model body. "I don't think I have to explain much
here; you get the gist of it all I'm sure," said Curtis a little
regretfully.
"Yea, I get it," replied John a little uncomfortably as he rubbed at his
back and felt nothing there.
"Don't bother looking for it. It bores directly into your spinal cord,
it can't be removed without killing you," said Curtis with a strange calm
as he glanced around the lab as if looking for something. He walked over
to two strange glass cylinders that sat plugged into the wall and simply
froze; they were empty.
"What is it?" asked John.
"What the hell?" said Curtis as he grew more and more agitated he began
to tear apart the lab in frustration.
"What's up?" asked John in a worried tone.
"Where the hell are Saffron and Herb!?" screamed Curtis as he proceeded
to pitch a fit.
"We didn't tell you because that information was on a need to know
basis," said the gruff looking Major sitting at the desk while John and
Curtis stood before him with angry looks on their faces.
"Are you saying I didn't need to know!? How the hell am I supposed to
plan a defense against them if I don't know about this? This changes
everything! They are almost twice as powerful if they have Herb and
Saffron with them!" screamed Curtis as he began to rant.
"We are aware of that, but the fact is it was a top secret operation.
The units where taken when they left; yesterday the other two members of
the unit where reported missing by their families, one of them was on
leave and the other was going to be transferred in a few days. I have
their records right here." the old man pushed two folders towards Curtis
with confidential taped across them. "You weren't cleared for the
information yet."
"You idiot! This information is useless! The personalities have been
completely changed by the units! These military classes and marksmanship
records are pointless, they are so powerful they don't need to use stupid
training any more! They could walk into the White House and take the
President and there isn't a damn thing you can do to stop them!! You're
lucky they haven't realized that yet!" the man pulled at his hair
violently as he pitched a fit in front of the Major; two soldiers moved
to restrain him and where easily tossed aside as he ignored them totally
and continued his ranting.
"Calm down, there is nothing that can be done about it now Curtis," said
John as he sat his friend down.
"All right, your right," said the man as he hyperventilated and glared
at the calm man sitting comfortably behind his desk.
"Come on I'll introduce you to your team mates," grumbled the scientist
as he stormed out of the room. John glanced back at the Major and said
nothing as he walked out into the hallway.
He was lead to a room that looked like a health club for people that
were over ten feet tall. A shorthaired woman was grunting as she pushed a
rack of weights into the air; it looked ridiculously heavy. She had a
very nice body and her hair was a strange light red color that grew into
a lighter shade towards the roots; her face was incredibly young, she
didn't look older than sixteen. She placed the weights on the rack and
watched them with a completely unreadable gaze.
Nearby a boy practiced Kendo with an instructor; he looked about
eighteen years old and had short spiky black hair with a ponytail at the
base. He was also wiping the floor with the poor man. He turned to face
them as they walked over to him and casually blocked another blow before
signaling for the match to stop.
"Hey Curtis, who's this?" he asked with a smile.
"This is Son Goku, the newest member of our little team," said the man
in response.
The name somehow sounded right to John and he extended his hand warmly.
"Howdy,"
"Fresh meat, how nice," said the woman as she walked over and glanced
him up and down. She looked and acted more like Akane than Ranma at the
moment, but John could still see it in her a little.
"He's stronger than both of you put together," said Curtis.
"Bet he can't fly yet," grumbled the boy.
"So what?" growled the girl.
"She's just mad because she hasn't reached that level in her programming
yet," snorted the boy arrogantly.
She growled and said nothing as she shook the newcomers hand roughly.
"Goku, meet Ranma and Tenchi," said Curtis as he smiled broadly.
"Nice to meet you both," said Goku.
Later that night John looked at his personal papers as he sat alone in
the room the base had supplied for him; it was small and very basic, but
he didn't really need much. He read his name out loud on the papers and
frowned; Curtis was right, he didn't feel that his name was right any
more. He glanced them up and down and vaguely wondered if he should feel
angry that the man had destroyed who he was. He tossed them into the
trash and extended his hand letting out a thin beam of light setting the
documents on fire. He watched them burn and the smoke drifted out of the
window into the night sky; after the flames died down he put them out and
closed his window before climbing into the bed. "No, I'm still me; I
still care about my family and I know who I was, I'm just more now. I'm
Son Goku, and I can't wait to meet this 'Vegita'...It's sure to be one
hell of a fight." He rolled onto his side and closed his eyes.

This part was to set up plot and help answer a few questions. Not
everything has been revealed about the mysterious 'Cyntech bugs' and it
won't be for a while. Next Chapter I hope to focus on the other members
of the team; Tenchi and Ranma, and their reaction to Goku; as well as the
villains we have not yet met; Herb, Saffron, and Ryoga.
Also you will see how the programming effects our hero's and villains.
Who they were before all this started will also be touched on. As you
probably know not everything can be told just yet. I have to save some to
keep you reading.
