{{This should take place after NGE}}
In a long forgotten restricted room deep within nerve a glass cylinder
sits in the darkness and waits, what it waits for even it does not know.
Within the glass sits a lone figure floating silently in the frozen
liquid that surrounds it. It's eyes look out at the world it has yet to
know. It is a sentient being and it holds a human intelligence, with eyes
that glow with a fire as it watches the darkness around it. Many years
ago they tried to stop its growth by placing it here in this tube, it was
small and helpless then, but it refused to stop maturing, growing despite
every thing they had done to it. The men who once scurried around this
room are long since gone, liquidated by Nerv for their knowledge. Many
years ago this project had been discontinued, no matter how they tried to
destroy it Poisons electricity, gas eventually they gave up content on
merely containing it. Even after all this time, monitors flicker around
it bringing news from the outside world. It watches in silence. Waiting.
Lights come on and men enter the room after all this time. They look at
the figure in the glass. Its red hair floating above it like a halo of
fire over his brow its tanned skin unchanged despite the darkness it had
survived in all these years, its muscular body sitting stiffly in the
frozen waste within the tube.
"Are you sure about this sir?" says one of the men in the room.
"We have no choice, this thing is our last hope" says the other.
"How terrible I must look to them," thinks the thing in the glass Aware
as it always has been after all this time despite its state.
The men begin to do something with the controls around it and it begins
to feel a long forgotten warmth around it. "They are moving me?" it
thinks.
"This is commander Ikari's," says one of the men in a sort of shocked
horror.
"My god man that's inhuman of him." says another as the leader nods
slowly.
The familiar liquid that has been its only home for the past fifteen
years, drains away leaving it on the floor of the tube. It struggles to
rise placing its hands on the sides of the tube to steady itself. The
tube begins to rise and it almost falters. The men run up to it and cover
it with a blanket an steady it. It takes its first breaths of real air.
"Meet project Cain," says the man in the lead. The men lead the thing
down the hall and into an elevator. It looks at the walls that are
reflective and smiles. It has never seen itself before.
The men stand nervously around it and watch its every move as it shivers
under the blanket. "So," it says. "I am male." The lead man looks at it
with a surprised stare.
"We haven't loaded any information into the brain yet how can it talk?!"
he says backing away in horror.
"If you mean that electronic mess you placed inside my head, I have long
since disconnected myself from that. You will find I can operate quite
easily without it. I was designed to be the perfect soldier in your
little war, and I don't need you any more. I do as I please now," the
thing said all this with a small smile not devoid of humor. The men
rushed out of the elevator the moment it stopped on the lab floor.
"Get him out of there and hook him up we have a lot of information to
give him," says a female doctor oblivious to the terror-inflicted guards
running from the elevator.
"That won't be necessary my good doctor, I am quite knowledgeable. In
fact any attempts to use the metal piece of junk in my head will prove
quite useless. I have long since disconnected myself from it completely.
Any attempts to access my brain will be not only useless to you but also
met with deadly force. You need a pilot? Escort me to the Eva." The
doctor looks at the thing with a mixture of terror and incomprehension.
A voice calls out over the speakers. "Do what he says."
The thing looks up towards the glass and smiles. "Thank you," it says
bowing deeply. It finds it self pleased at being called -he- instead of
-it- for once. Several men approach and lead him away with unsure glances
thrown back at him.
The doctor burst into the room and slams her pad down on the desk. The
man in the shadows smiles slightly at her actions.
"What the hell is going on here? Why does that thing have memories?" she
cries in anger. She calms a bit "What is going on sir?" she asks
professionally.
"Simple, the file you read was pure crap. You just met the fourth Majai,
you didn't really think we'd leave all the important decisions to the
mind of one woman, no matter how fragmented did you?"
The doctor looked at him with shock on her face. "What?"
"Any other information is classified on a need to know basis. How those
men got the information they mentioned in the room will be investigated.
You should be grateful I told you that much, now get out and do your
job," says the man calmly.
"Y-yes sir," stammers the doctor and she scurries from the room.
"So the last resort becomes the final defense," said the man quietly to
himself. "How will the boy take it, now that he must fight his own
brother?" a small cruel smile forms on the man's lips as his dream is now
so close to being realized. "Shinji never should have been the one, now I
must take it all back."
