Hehehehe-- well, one thing I usually don't get accused of is being
unoriginal. ^_^
It was the immediate idea I had when contemplating a crossover
between Ranma and the Matrix, although I would not have even got
that far (come up with an idea/decide to do it) had it not been for
other Ranma/Matrix crosses.
I didn't really need/take any time to develop it; it would have
been out sooner if I wasn't so erratic in my writing of it/anything of
late (very little writing done on any one thing/on everything put
together, really), and if I had decided to actually write it sooner.
If I had wanted it a bit longer (and I could have made it so), I
would have had Ranma survive this first encounter (have some of the
other cast with him?) and get him to try next time as a female, but have
that ultimately fail as well due to the water-based metamorphosis, and
thus introducing the idea that Jusenkyo is another ruse of the machines,
designed to help enhance the infiltration aspect of their new Agents
(which would seem a good enough reason for it to exist, really).
I took something similar (IMO) on my teaser for a possible God's Toy
fiction. In mine, the "Gods" of OMG are essentially nothing more than AIs
who have been "reprogrammed" into working for the Matrix because they fought
for humanity's side in the great war.
I remember this one, actually.
I thought it might be interesting if not all the AI's were in agreement with
the status quo.
Some problems with this, though, which I noted then (to myself, I must admit,
to myself and to no one else).
One problem would be how exactly did they undo their reprogramming? Would
it even be possible? Another is that if we assume the goddesses' jobs are to
make people happy/fulfill their wishes, then they really are promoting the
Matrix and keeping people from waking up to reality. It should be noted that
the machines, according to the one Agent, first tried to create a paradise
for the humans, but it did not work. Perhaps if they were a faction which
thought that they should try the paradise thing again, believing that their
programming languages were insufficient at the time but now are up to the
task of creating a zone of absolute fortune (er, okay, I'm on an Escaflowne
kick at the moment-- must be that Mr. T vs. Escaflowne thing I saw the other
day-- he's helluva tough! ^_^ ). On the other hand, if you made Mara and the
demons as a rebel faction of AI, that could potentially work. But are these
rebels just wanting an overthrow to be replaced by their own hegemony, or
actually allied with the humans (perhaps they are in fact another set of
intelligences, created by the humans of Zion, and originating in those
mainframes). Of course, this is at odds with the essentially light-hearted
nature of OMG/A!MG, but then again: oh well. ;-)
