fiction by a fan.

Officer Jenny. Nurse Joy. Two familiar sights in every town and
city that has a Pokemon Center. Town to town, city to city, the
various Officer Jennys and Nurse Joys are identical to each other
in appearance. Diligent and professional. They discharge their
respective duties, serving the communities of humans and Pokemon.
The Officer Jennys are in charge of maintaining law and order while
the Nurse Joys are responsible for the well being of Pokemon.
Forgotten by humans and all but the oldest Pokemon however, is
the dark secret that they keep. The reason for their respective
choices in professions to serve and aid humans and Pokemon alike.
The secret behind the identical appearances of all the females in
their family generation for generation.

It was a sorry sight that limped into Saffron City. The teenage
boys clothes had certainly seen better days. Cut and burned in
several places, they looked ready to fall apart at any moment. The
bandages underneath them bore testament to the fact that the damage
had been recent. On his back, he carried a Raichu in his half
destroyed backpack. Like the boy, the Raichu was badly hurt,
sporting injuries all over.
Keeping to the shadows, the boy struggled from shadow to shadow
with his precious Pokemon, doing his best to remain unseen. Every
now and then, a headache would seem to take the boy. When this
happened, one hand would go for his head, while the other reached
under his shirt to clench onto something there.
Even stranger, it seemed that despite the injuries he and his
Pokemon had, he was headed neither for the hospital, nor for the
Pokemon Center. Instead, his destination was the Pokemon Gym.
Slipping unseen into the Gym, he headed immediately for the
Arena with familiar ease.

When the door to the Arena opened, Sabrina, leader of the
Saffron City Gym and expert in Psychic Pokemon, expected to see
another Pokemon Trainer here to challenge her for the Marsh badge.
What greeted her came completely unexpected.
Ash! she rushed to his side immediately. What happened to you
and RAICHU?!
Sabrina, I need your help. Ash managed to get out before he
collapsed into her arms. Let me stay here for a while, will you?
he asked weakly.
Of course, she replied quickly, you can stay as long as you
like.
Ash smiled weakly and thanked her. Carefully, Sabrina half
carried, half dragged Ash into one of the spare rooms and laid him
onto a bed.
Ill call for a doctor. Lie down and rest. Sabrina commanded.
Ash shook his head. No, he pleaded. Ive already had a doctor
treat my wounds in the last town. Theyre no longer life
threatening. I just need a place to rest and recover. No one must
know that Im here. Please.
    Very well.
Checking his claims, Sabrina saw that he had indeed been treated
and his current condition was more due to the stress of travelling
than his injuries. She decided to respect his wish for privacy.
She then turned her attention to Raichu and the Pokeballs on
Ashs belt.
I presume all of your other Pokemon are as badly hurt as your
Raichu? she asked him as she gathered the Pokeballs. As she did so,
she noticed that there were only four Pokeballs where five should
be.
Yeah, Ash nodded weakly, if you could..
Okay, okay, she interrupted, Ill bring them to the Pokemon
Center and have them healed for you.
No, wait. Nurse Joy wont heal my Pokemon. Ash stopped her.
Just let them out and give them food and water. Ive already had a
human doctor take care of their injuries. Theyre no longer in
danger. They just need to rest. Sabrina nodded, puzzled by his
statement.
Ill explain everything later. With that, Ash laid down into
the bed and within moments, was fast asleep.

Sabrina did not understand Ashs reaction to her bringing his
Pokemon to the Pokemon Center. Thus, against his wishes, she took
them there to be healed. Raichu had tried to resist, but in his
weakened state, could not stop her.
Arriving at the Center with the Pokemon, she immediately called
for Nurse Joy.
Nurse Joy, she set Raichu and the Pokeballs on the counter,
could you please take care of these Pokemon? Im afraid theyre all
badly hurt.
Of course, Sabrina. Joy immediately prepared to take in the
Pokemon and called for a Chansey to bring a stretcher. A Raichu?!
Her brows raised at the sight of the electric Pokemon.
Branching out Sabrina? I didnt know you had the time to go out
and catch Pokemon. she asked as she released the other Pokemon from
their Pokeballs. A Charizard, a Blastoise, an Ivysaur and a Mew.
Her smile began to slip visibly from her face.
As she directed the Chanseys to bring the Pokemon to the back,
she turned to Sabrina with a fearful expression. These wouldnt
happen to be Ash Ketchums Pokemon, would they?
Sabrina showed her bewilderment at the question. Before she
could answer, Nurse Joy had already continued ranting.
Of course not, Joy forced her smile back into place, they
couldnt possibly be his Pokemon. Ill bring them to the back
immediately. Have a good day, Sabrina. Without further ado, she
disappeared into the back along with the Pokemon, leaving Sabrina
alone in the hall.

Sabrina felt as though she had just been hit by a Confusion.
What in the world was going on here? First, a half dead Ash with
badly hurt Pokemon comes into her Gym and asks for a place to stay.
Then he refuses to call a doctor and begs for secrecy. Furthermore,
despite the condition of his Pokemon, he did not want her to bring
them to the Pokemon Center, claiming that Nurse Joy would not take
them in. Strangest of all, was Nurse Joys reaction when she saw
them. It was obvious she knew something about it but despite her
attempts, she kept brushing her off.
Giving up trying to talk to Nurse Joy, Sabrina headed back to
her Gym. Ash had a lot of explaining to do when he woke up.

She had been about to reach his room when she felt it. The only
word she had to describe the sensation was DARKNESS. Not the
darkness that comes from turning off the lights at night. No, this
had the feeling of wrongness to it that she remembered from her
past. From before she met Haunter. However, compared with the one in
her heart in the old days, the darkness that she felt emanating from
Ashs room made it feel like a harmless shadow under the sun.
Drawing out her Pokeball containing her Kadabra, she ran the
last bit to Ashs room and slammed the door open.
What she saw was beyond her imagination.
Floating in the middle of the room, was Nurse Joy. That was, if
Nurse Joy had midnight black wings sprouting from her back. If she
wore jet black armour and if she carried a wicked looking sabre
along with a whip that ended in several pointed caltrops.
Looking into that hate twisted face and infernally glowing eyes,
Sabrina felt her blood freeze, her Pokeball clenched tightly in her
hand. All of a sudden, she felt as though she was a child staring at
a hungry, vicious Charizard.
Yyeess, the demonic Nurse Joy smiled cruelly in anticipation.
throw that sphere of yours.
Filled with terror, Sabrina took a step back from the door, the
Pokeball in her hand forgotten. With her back against the wall,
Sabrina could barely think.
Seconds passed. It soon became obvious to the evil Nurse Joy
that Sabrina was not going to act any time soon. With a snarl, she
raised her sabre, the serrated edge gleaming evilly in the gloomy
room and started towards the door at Sabrina.
That finally shook Sabrina out of her stupor, but not out of her
terror. Cowering with fear, she let out a loud scream. To her
credit, she managed at the same time to project a telekinetic burst
to stop the oncoming demoness. Given her panicked state of mind, it
came as no surprise that the burst was weak and unfocussed. Still,
even one of Sabrinas weakest bursts could throw a fully grown man
across a room.
The attack however, had almost no effect on the charging Fury,
the telekinetic energies curving away from her instead. Rather than
being repelled, the Nurse Joy lookalike merely floated to the
ground, pausing to regard the useless attempt at defence. Melodious
laughter came from her mouth as she savoured the fear released by
her prey. Slower this time, she stepped forward.
Only to find herself unable to cross the threshold. Letting out
a cry of frustration, she pounded uselessly upon the invisible wall
that seemed to have been placed in the doorway.
Surprised to find herself still alive, Sabrina glanced up to see
the evil Nurse Joy standing in the doorway, glaring at her with a
hate filled expression.
Killjoy, return! a voice cried out.
All of a sudden, a red beam struck the demoness from behind,
engulfing her in red light. With all her might, the evil Nurse Joy
fought the entrapment. The beams power proved however stronger,
drawing the dark Pokemon back into its Pokeball.
With the disappearance of the demoness, Sabrina could now see
into the room. Sitting upright on the bed with a sad expression, was
Ash. In his hand, was the Pokeball that had recalled Nurse Joy.
It was unlike any Pokeball Sabrina had seen. Connected to a thin
chain that lead around his neck, it looked like an Ultraball. But
instead of the normal colouring, it was almost completely black.
Only a red stripe could be seen along the line where the ball would
normally open.
Umm. I suppose you want an explanation for that? Ash asked
sheepishly as he lowered the Pokeball.
Feeling blood return to her face, Sabrina nodded.

One final thought :
I've noticed that no one has ever written a fic about Mihoshi being
Washu's granddaughter before. I mean, think about. In Hello Baby, the
baby was shown as having blond hair and brown skin. Same holds true for
the Grandmarshal of GP in Mihoshi falls from the Land of Stars. Has
anybody considered that Mihoshi's luck (and ability to get into Washu's
lab) could stem from the fact that she is Washu's great-granddaughter?
She could be an aspect of Goddess Washu. Her freeing of Washu on Soja was
no accident.
