One of the best "original flavor" stories in my opinion (for example is
the "Macho Caballo" series...by Jaames and the Bluejay.
it takes Ranma and looks at it through a differnt cultural mirror.
In this case, Mexico and the American southwest.
The characters are there (sort-of) but they are most decidedly differnt.
is it anime?
Well, it's based on anime and would (in my impression) have no real
dificulty existing in the same universe as Ginax's Secret of the Blue
water.
Strangely enough as well it could conceveably happen in the Ranma world
at a differing time. Of course then people in the ranma-verse would
probably die more often.

doing business as usual. Every storyline in the manga shows the Ranma
cast reacting to some new circumstance or threat or opportunity.
Ranma getting into a fight with Akane on the way to school is typical.
But, Ranma getting into a fight with Akane on the way to school,
obsessing over it and REALLY deciding he was wong and should change is
still close. Actually changing... well there you branch.
Suggestion: Decide (if you haven't already) what the main plot/conflict
is in your story -- what makes it unique. Then start the story from THAT
point. If any of the standard scenes fit into your plot, great; if not,
terminate them with extreme prejudice.
