Story: Where did you go to, today?
Chapter: (Pre)
World: Mine(real)
Revision: 2
By: Geoff "Zop" McCord
-Based on my imagination
-What's the answer to this question?
Joe left his house from the normal boredom that continously engulfed him.
The
warm spring day lit the outside brightly. He walked toward the library to
see if
anything interesting was happening there. A poster on the city bulletin
board
caught his attention. It screamed with flashy colors about a seminar
/assembly/lecture/informative talk/speech about a new discovery at the lab.
"Well, that looks important," he murmered to no one in particular.
After the minute he rushed home to make some calls, Joe and most of his
friends
were at his house, for they were almost bored as he was. Chris's phone was
unanswered, which was unusual for him.
"So you don't know what it is about?" Olivia looked at Joe blankly.
"It's some important brand-new discovery," Joe said.
"There was nothing on the TV news about anything... literally. They just had
a
newscaster brush his teeth for an hour." Gi smirked at his own remark.
"Don't you think he's funny Rob?" Mer said.
"Uh... sure. You don't need their permission." Rob was obviously bored into
incomprehensibility and unawareness. Mer gave him a funny look. Rob was the
tallest of them all, a head taller than Geoff was. His dark hair and eyes
gave
him, well, a dark look.
In Joe's living room there was an old wood chair and a couch that could fit
four
people, if necessary. And it was necessary; no one liked to sit on the
floor.
Therefore, Rob, Mer, Gi, and Geoff were squished on top of it. Olivia was
lucky
enough to sit in the chair.
"Where is Olivia?" Joe looked out the window for the nth time, hoping to see
her.
"Uh, Joe. I'm here already. Weren't you just talking to me?"
Olivia, a cute, brown-haired chick had been going out with Geoff until their
dads forbade anymore contact that could lead them to a romantic
relationship.
"Umm..." Joe counted everybody, again. "Well, let's go then."
When they arrived, they noticed there was not even a car in the parking lot
of
the lab.
"Where is everyone?" Joe asked.
"Maybe everyone has finally stopped caring about anything but themselves."
Gi
smirked at his own remark.
"You guys stay here. I'll check to see if it has been canceled." Olivia
stopped
the car just in front of the entrance.
"Couldn't you have driven to the toll booth and ask him?" asked Joe.
"I don't want to bother with turning the car around."
With a look, Joe escaped the crowded car and ran to the gate booth. After
the
guard exchanged a few sentences, Joe motioned them to come in. Olivia pulled
up
to Joe, and he climbed inside the car.
"He said it was in building G-1033. There are signs to the show."
Mer looked around. "How many buildings are there? All I see is three of
them."
"There are only three of them." Rob said.
"Well that's a stupid way to label the buildings."
After they parked in the prime spot, they scrambled out and headed for the
building. When they were all in the building, they followed the signs to the
amphitheater. Mer and Olivia headed into the bathroom.
"Oh! Hey!! Actual people who care- uh... came!" A middle-aged man in a white
jacket and pants motioned for them to come over onto the ampitheater's
stage. He
was behind a large, wood table that had some papers and objects on it. "This
is
the greatest discovery ever!" He paused while everyone came over to the
table.
"This!" He picked up a box the size of two portable TVs . It may have been
shiny
at some point, but it lost it's luster maybe tweleve hundered-odd years ago.
"This is a time machine! Believe it or not. All you have to do is press this
button. But, no one has tried it." The button he motioned to was big and
red. He
obviously wanted someone to try it.
"How would you know that it was a time machine if it was never tried?" Rob
questioned. "And what's that dial do?"
"Shut up, Rob. So no one has tried it?" Joe apparently wanted to try it.
"I'll
try it."
"Hey, if anyone has earned the right to try it, it's me!" He shoved Joe
aside
and pressed it.
"What about Olivia and Mer-" started Gi.
A whine began to start from inside it, and it built in strength. It vibrated
as
if it was full of power.
The professor-like person yelped and ran out the stage door. Rob dropped it,
and
it went clunk on the table. Then, the hum died down to a stop.
"Thanks, Rob," sighed Geoff.
"You broke it!" Joe looked alarmed.
"I didn't-" Suddenly, a blinding flash enveloped them, and they all were
knocked
down. Before Geoff became unconscious, he could feel weightlessness.
Olivia looked up from the sink and looked left to the door. She saw a
bright,
blue light through the window. Just before she wondered why a window was on
a a
bathroom door, Mer gasped from her side and disappeared in front of Olivia's
eyes. She then noticed she was off her feet, flying backwards. Before she
could
gasp, she fell into unconsciousness.

Duc was surprised. Nothing new had happened in his city for such a long
time.
And now, here's something new. He was holding in his hand a flier about the
city
lab, and it had flashy colors scrambled all over it. The new presentation
was
about some great discovery the lab had made. Duc was always ready to learn
something extraordinary. It was not for a half-hour. That gave him enough
time
to get there. He combed his short, black hair and wondered if he should take
a
jacket with him. He left without one.
When he arrived, he noticed that the parking lot was almost desolate. Except
for
one car, there were no other objects in the lot. He pulled up to the
gatekeeper.
"Isn't there a presentation today?" asked Duc.
"Yeah, it's in that 'G' building." the keeper replied. He was obviously
bored.
When parked and out of his car, he heard a shout from behind him. He turned
to
see Cody walking toward him. He only seen him twice, but that was somewhere
around three times too many. He just seemed that he becomes a jerk to some
people... like Duc.
"What are you doing here? As if you care about anything." Duc sighed.
"Hey! I came for a reason that was not for anyone else's benefit... uh...
yeah!
What are you doing here?"
"I have to do extra credit in my science class."
"Um, well... yeah, me too."
Duc knew that Cody would not do anything that had anything to do with work,
unless it meant that he'd profit.
When they finally arrived at the building. Duc looked up.
"Sure is a tall building. It's at least five stories. It's the tallest in
this
town."
Cody wondered why Duc made such an obvious statement. From having looked up,
he
did a double take at the doors in front of him. "Uh, there seems to be
something
bright in there..."
Duc looked down to the door. Sure enough, a bright, blue light was coming
through the glass window in the door. Even in the daytime it was noticeable.
Suddenly, a great bar of light shot from the top of the building, straight
to
the sky. One would be able to see it from a few miles away. A loud crashing
noise from the top could be heard.
"Holy matrimony..." gasped Cody.
They noticed large pieces of the roof falling from the top. Duc noticed Cody
was
running away. He also saw that he was running. They ran to a closeby
building.
They slammed the doors behind them. They were about to continue running, but
they realized that they were away from danger. They leaned against the wall
and
sunk to the floor.
"That was the... presentation?" gasped Cody.
"Maybe something went... whew... went wrong." Duc looked at the double doors
they just passed through. "How'd we get into here? This is not a place where
the
public can go."
Duc tried the doors, but they were locked.
"Who cares? Maybe we'll find something valuable. Something we can sell or
ransom
for tons of money." Cody rubbed his hands in mock evil.
"Or, something to help with extra credit!"
"Everyone's got their dreams," murmured Cody.
"We're also going to have to find another way out."
Cody nodded. They looked away from the door to see the hall they were in.
There
were doors on each side, each with a lit sign above. As they walked down the
white hall, they grew aware of a humming. It increased with their distance
from
the door. It seemed to be originating behind a set of two beige swing doors
a
few feet ahead.
"Why is everything beige or off-white?" Cody looked to his companion.
"Huh? Aren't you going to open it?" Duc glanced at Cody.
"No way! You do it."
Duc easily opened the door.
As soon the door opened, the humming was easily identified from inside. The
room
they entered was large as a big garage and full of machinery and other large
mechanisms. Near the back middle, there was a console the size of an office
desk. It was obviously a console because many lights, buttons, and other
switches covered it.
"This looks like a great thing to mess with." Cody ran to the console, as
Duc's
eyes grew large.
"What are you doing? Don't touch anything!" However, his shouts were in
vain.
Cody began to press buttons at random. Duc rushed over and tried to undo
what
Cody was doing.
"Hey! Stop that!" Cody pushed Duc away, and he tripped and fell onto a
large,
prominent lever. As it swung down, the lights began to flicker, dials began
to
point to red, and numerous noises, that would make any expert mechanic
cringe,
all started to happen at once.
"Duc! What did you-" Cody was cut off by a large whole that ripped through
the
air in between them. It was not so much a hole, more like a portal, but the
edges made it look as if it was torn through cloth. Cody noticed there was a
town bustling with people inside the tear.
"What the f-"
Suddenly, as would a vacuum, they both were yanked inside it. And with a
pop,
it, along with them, vanished.
The machines and dials died down to a stand still, and the humming stopped
completely.
