As with many relationhips in anime, the nature of the love shared between
Nagisa and Iczer-One is somewhat ambiguous. Some believe the two to share
a deep romance, and desire to spend their lives together - a view which I
am exploring in _Operation Lightsphere_. Another viewpoint is that the
love between the two is that the love they hold is that of sisters, with
Iczer-One, the elder sister, as a guardian, who protects her younger sister
from harm no matter what the danger. This is the view used in this story.
BTW, The next chapter of Lightsphere should be out soon. This is just
something that popped into my head and I thought was too good to go to waste.

Nagisa ran through the pouring rain as fast as her seven-year-old legs
could carry her, in a knowingly hopeless attempt to escape the inevitable.
What was happening now was the same thing which happened to her every day -
she continually fled from these boys, all of whom were at least five years
older than her - and they always hunted her down like predators.
She fell as her leg was grabbed, scraping her arms on concrete. Her
dropped schoolbag fell next to her, and one of the boys picked it up and
began rifling through it. The boy opened her bento box, and, with a look
of contempt, emptied what would have been her lunch onto the ground.
"Girl, you got any money?" demanded the biggest of the boys.
"No. I don't." Nagisa replied weakly.
The eldest boy shoved her against a tree, and a third began searching
through her skirt pockets. Nagisa simply lay sobbing as rain continued to
drench her body.

The blonde, spiky-haired schoolgirl rounded the corner, making the journey
to her first day at the junior high school she had just transferred to -
she hoped it would be a better school than the last one. She hadn't
managed to fit in there, but she really wanted things to improve this time.
Her thoughts about her past troubles were interrupted when she saw four
boys surrounding the cowering form of a much smaller girl. For an instant,
the thought that she should avoid getting into trouble entered her mind -
but it only lasted an instant.
{Geez, how can I worry myself about that?} She berated herself. {I can't
let them treat her like that!}
"Hey!" She challenged. "What are you doing to that poor girl?"
"It's none of your business!" replied one of the bullies.
"I'm making it my business." the blonde said calmly, shifting into a
martial-arts stance.
The four boys turned to face the blonde girl, who showed no sign of being
intimidated. Infuriated, they ran at her. She dodged to the side,
elbowing one in the side of the head, then turning to face a second and
throwing him to the ground. Then, she moved toward the leader, her foot
whipping out in front of her and hitting him in the groin. The fourth boy
then simply turned and ran away, as did the boys she had beaten.
After the bullies had fled, she turned her attention to the younger girl.
The green-haired girl was soaked and muddy, and failed to even register
that her attackers had left, still lying there and sobbing. The blonde sat
down against the tree, not caring if she got dirty, and held the crying
green-haired girl in her lap as the rain drenched them both.
"It's okay." The older girl whispered. "You're okay." She repeated it
for several minutes before the younger girl finally reacted.
"Are they gone?"
"Yes. They can't hurt you now. What's your name?" In the distance, a
school bell rang, but the girls seemed not to notice it.
"Nagisa. What's yours?"
"It's really Ikusaa Yui. But you can call me Iczer-One."
