Rethinking Plans
A Short Fiction by Robert Haynie
(I WISH they were mine, I'd be a lot wealthier.)

Jadeite sighed. The plan wasn't working very well.
"Report, Jadeite," Beryl said calmly. Jadeite HATED it when
Beryl was calm.
"Well... I think we'll have to relocate our point of contact, my
queen. The first choice isn't working out very well."
"I was under the impression that the humans of that location were
possessing a higher level of energy than elsewhere?"
"True, but... there have been complications."
"Explain."
"Well, the first youma we sent was destroyed by a boy."
"That seems unlikely..."
"Yes, I know, but... I've never seen such a fighter. And he
seemed to hardly even care about it too-- took it entirely in
stride."
"Perhaps we should look into eliminating the boy."
"That was my first thought, but... when I sent another youma to
find him, a girl destroyed it. I think she was related, they dressed
alike."
"Curious..."
"It gets worse." Jadeite swallowed, and then continued. "The
next one was killed by another boy with an umbrella. Then we sent
one after him, who was apparently eliminated by some lunatic with a
ribbon. Laughed worse than Zoicite, she did. THEN there was the boy
with the wooden sword, THEN the girl with the spatula, THEN that damn
duck with all the knives, THEN that girl with the hammer--"
"Hammer?"
"Oh, yes. I wonder where she hides that thing? Anyhow, it's
clear that the first point isn't one to harvest energy from after
all."
Beryl nodded. "I had a bad feeling about Nerima anyway. You may
relocate the contact point, Jadeite."
The general nodded, and relaxed. He'd felt that Juuban would be
better anyhow...
The End.
