Chapter 16: Road to Hell.
"What?!"
"Like I said. The Demons are claiming rights to the world when the
Angels are finished."
"Damn those bastards! The world is for me and the A.C.M! I will not
let it fall into the hands of those monsters! Mobilize the army, and
send a message to the Demons. A declaration of war!".............
I was tired, so very tired. For twenty-four hours I had waited for
the apocalypse, waited without sleep. I had fallen asleep once or twice,
but when I did, the other part of me tried to convince me to fight. And
I didn't want to. So I woke up, every time I tried to sleep, I awoke
with his voice echoing in my head.
He was just like them, like everyone else. All trying to use me like
a pawn for their sinister game. Like I wasn't even human. They were
bastards all of them, everyone and everything was against me. I couldn't
even trust myself.
There were enemies lurking in the shadows and monsters under the
bed. No where seemed safe for me, all I could do was wait. Wait for the
impending doom. The Seven Angels were probably here, on earth. Wreaking
havoc on everything around them.
"Hello, young one. It is nice to finally meet you." Said a feminine
voice to my right.
I turned over to the right to see what had just spoken to me. It was
a girl, from what I could tell from her voice. She was short, and quite
slim. She wore a long, red robe which had about half a dozen layers on
it. The thing was very loose on her, and disguised her figure
completely. She was completely covered in the robe, from head to toe.
And a black veil covered her face beneath the hood.
I sighed at this. Another person I do believe, who had come here to
use me. Every wanted to. "Leave me alone."
She shook her head and I thought I saw a smile on her face. "Not
yet. I came here to help you. I am a reality walker, and I have come to
bring you away, if you so desire."
I shook my head, much as she did. "I wan no part in what you plan.
Get in line for people who want to use me. There are a lot of people in
that line." My voice was heavy with sarcasm and annoyance.
She still persisted. "I've come to take you from all of that. I want
to prevent people from using you, exploiting you. I'm only here to help.
I will pull you away from the war, and from all of the people who hate
you. Would you like to come?"
"Where?"
"To anywhere you want. I can take you there, far from all of this. A
place where no one will know you or care, where you can be a normal
person without the pressure upon you."
"Why? And how do you know so much about me?"
"I've been watching you for a long time, a very long time. And I've
seen your plight. I was in a situation much like yours a long time ago.
I ran away, left this reality and everything within it. I don't want to
see someone else go through what I went through."
This women was really making me consider leaving. What did I have
here? Why stay? Everyone was trying to exploit me. And if she was going
to exploit me, then it will still be no different from staying here.
"No you don't!"
I quickly jumped out of bed as I saw another person appear, leaning
on the wall. It was Lilith. She was looking at me with a disappointed
look and examining the other women with anger. "Don't do it Douglas.
This women is trying to take you away from your responsibilities."
My anger flare dup when I saw this women. "I don't want all these
responsibilities! Why don't you find another damn Messiah!? I've been
moved like a pawn since my birth, bickered over by people who want to
use me. And you are no better then any of them! You made me kill me
family and I will NEVER forgive you as long as I have enough breath to
whisper words of spite. I hate you!"
Lilith broke down and fell on her knees sobbing. "I'm sorry! I
didn't mean to ruin your life. But I was doing it for humanities
interests. I had good intentions."
The strange women decided to jump into the conversation at this
point. "The road to hell is paved with good intentions. The decision is
up to Douglas. Not you, nor Lucifer, nor God nor Steven, nor all the
members of the church. It's his life and he is to do with it as he
pleases."
"I'm looking after him, as I have since his birth. I have sacrifice
my life for him, making preparations for the second coming! Last time
the Messiah weaseled out of the Apocalypse by sacrificing himself for
mankind. He derailed the end of the world for almost two thousand years.
But now it is time for it to begin. I don't want it to come, but it is
time now! Putting it of will just make things worse. The church is
looking for the legendary talisman you know?"
"It's no concern of mine if the church is looking for it. I may have
created it, but it is far out of my control now."
"Is it? You created it, you first used it. Can't you hear the
screams of the millions you killed with it? The ultimate weapon. Nothing
even comes close. The weapon that could level all the Seven Angels with
only a small fraction of its power. How many times could it destroy the
world before running out of power?"
"Eighty million."
"Such a powerful weapon. When you used only a small fraction of it,
such a small amount that you would barely notice it being gone. It wiped
out a third of the worlds population. Remember well?"
"That's exactly why I'm taking Douglas away! I want to stop him from
bearing the burden. His will be a hundred times greater then mine. I
want him to be free, and I will not let you ruin his life."
At that moment, I had enough of their complaining. "Shut up! I will
choose my own path, like you said. Whoever you are. And I chose, to go
with you. I am not going to have any part in this war."
The woman smiled and walked over beside me, she put her arm on my
shoulder. And for some strange reason, I never tried to stop her. "I
suggest you leave us be. Douglas has made his decision, and he is
sticking by it. Unless you want to take him by force."
Lilith grumbled at that, but didn't try anything. "Fine. Just let
the whole world go to hell Douglas! You are so damn selfish! I hope you
spend all of eternity suffering for this!" And she vanished.
I didn't know what to think of Lilith, or this new woman. She seemed
to care for me, truly cared. She seemed to understand, there was
something in her voice which said, I understand.' I didn't know what to
make of it, of this woman. But if she led me away from this world, then
I would be in debt to her.
"So where do we go now?"
"It is up to you."
"Where can I choose to go?"
"It's limitless."
"Then where to start."
"I'll show you somewhere very special. Now hold on tight. Reality
travel is kinda bumpy."
For some reason I didn't feel angry or annoyed with her attitude
towards me or the way she talked. There was something about her which
made me calm. Whatever it was, it was nice to have. Maybe it was a calm
before the storm.
But before I could contemplate anymore, I disappeared with the
strange woman............
"Sir?"
"Yes."
"Your finished."
"What?!"
"We won't let God destroy us all. You're a blind bastard! Now die."
There was a gunshot.
Three coughs. "Damn you, son of a bitch. I'll see you in hell."
"Send me a postcard. I'll be waiting." Another gunshot.
A scream of pain and then silence. "Now onto finding the talisman."
