Ok, I've seen the original posting, and I didn't reply because I felt what I
would have said would generate a debate that doesn't have much to do with
fanfiction. Since you did this to get attention, here it goes:
Research your planes before doing the fanfic. The story looks good, and
normally I wouldn't have said anything, but not knowing(or worse, knowing
little) about the equipment you're describing in this series is quite bad.
Airbats takes place in a military unit, so correctness in this aspect(IMHO)
is essential.
First of all, the Avro Arrow. An excellent aircraft, the best interceptor of
its time... which was 1959(the year the political hacks axed the program, if
memory doesn't fail me). I see you are using the story about Arrow 6 being
flown away to avoid being scrapped, but how did it fell into the hands of a
Japanese industrialist? Japan is quite far away, and a plane as big as the
Arrow would be noticed. Furthermore, and even more important: How did the
Japanese manage to keep a highly complex airplane in flying condition after
40 years, especially since ALL material related to the project, including
engines, spare parts, and the machinery used to built them was destroyed?
Now for the airborne chase: Japan uses F-15s, not the Tomcat. I don't know
whether the Yokosuka-based carrier Kitty Hawk has the 'Cat, but it is a
distinct possibility. Even if the USN doesn't get involved, Japan has one of
the best air defence systems in the world, so how the Airbats, a training
unit, flying subsonic jets gets involved in the pursuit? The JASDF F-15s
would probably eat the poor Arrow for breakfast, denying the aeronautical
museums of the world a superb exibit, and a strinkingly beautiful
aircraft...
I anxiously await any responses. If the message sounds arrogant, I'm sorry,
it wasn't my intention. Anyway, I'd like to see the fanfic when it's ready
