Thanks. I don't really see it as a choice, though - in my view, Shinji
is the default option. If Asuka hadn't fallen apart like she did, I
could easly envision Kaworu interacting to such an extent with her as
well as/instead of with Shinji. (Fic, anyone?) As it stands, though,
she's already out of the picture by the time he appears. I don't
believe he would interact with Rei in the same manner, simply because
she isn't exactly a normal human, but much more like himself. She's
also rather like a newborn at that point, still settling into her life.
Her interactions with him are important in defining _her_ character, but
not so important in shaping _his_ - and since this fic was about Kaworu
and his thoughts...
Just my own opinion, and since it's been months since I last watched the
series, I don't intend to try and argue in depth about it. ^_^;;
