I'm having trouble thinking of ways to make Ukyou funny. She doesn't seem
to have any consistent, characteristic gags, or appealing inanities, the
way Akane, Shampoo, and Kodachi do, other than the 'gets-violent-when-
embarrassed' gag, which works well if used infrequently, but gets old
if overused (and isn't easy to set up appropriately).
(Although Ukyou is introduced as a cross-dresser, Takahashi seems to drop
this aspect for Ukyou herself; I can't remember any later incident when
she's mistaken for a male, which kind of cuts the credibility of having
this suddenly start to happen a lot.)
Can anyone think of any other gags Takahashi uses consistently for Ukyou,
similar to the following for the other girls, especially ones which would
work with fairly frequent repetition?
Akane: general obliviousness, a bad cook, cries easily, "frequently"
kidnapped, and her tendency to sneak around following
Ranma, in appropriate clothes
Shampoo: oblivious to bodily modesty, completely uncaring for Mousse's
welfare, out-of-place displays of affection for Ranma,
incompetent sneakiness
Kodachi: over-the-top sneaky measures: the paralysis powder, the spiked
clubs, etc. Over-the-top emotional reactions.
