Hello everyone. So that this post would not be a full blown spam, I've decided to include an old fic of mine that I intend to do a major rewrite on. Hopefully, I'll get some last minute C&C before I go through with the rewrite.

Now for the main reason in posting this. First, let me be honest, until recently, I've never actually even seen or read a single issue or episode of Ranma. But recently, I've been able to download the an English subbed version of episode one. That's when I noticed that many fanfic authors have made minor mistakes when retelling the beginning of Ranma. So, as a public service to help authors on the list in producing a more accurate retelling of, IMO the currently most widely writen series, Ranma. I have decided to clear up certain facts that many of us have been getting wrong.

In chronological order:
1- Genma hit Ranma-chan in the back of the head with a stop sign. Not with one of his signs that are used for communication. In fact, he never actually used those in the first episode.

2- Now for what is IMO the most widely made error in fanficdom(in regards to this series). The conversation between Akane and Nabiki in the dojo.

Incorrect Version:
Akane jogs into the dojo. She breaks some bricks.

Nabiki: No wonder boys think you're weird.

Akane: Unlike you, I don't revolve my life around boys.

More accurate version:
The screen pans into Akane in the dojo. She breaks some bricks.

Nabiki: It's because you do stuff like this that boys are not interested in you in a normal way.

Akane: Mind you own business sis, unlike you, I HATE boys!

As you can see, the difference is a fairly major one in terms of Akane's attitude towards boys. P.S. I didn't quote the show word for word. I just pointed the differences out. Hence the 'more accurate version' rather than 'the correct version.

3- The members of the Tendo family who went to greet the Saotomes were not Kasumi and Soun. It was Soun followed behind by Nabiki.

4- There was no shot of them opening a door to a panda. In fact, they simply ran back in the house with a panda following close behind.

5- Meaning that contrary to popular fanfic belief, Soun did not hug a redhead when he opened the door. And Genma did not wander off to find hot water while Soun was with Ranma-chan.

6- What happened was that when Genma was in the hallway leading to the main interior of the house, he set Ranma-chan down. Who said "I am Saotome Ranma, sorry about this." THEN Soun hug her.

7- Soun fainted when it was confirmed that she was a girl.

8- Akane did not run screaming when she saw Ranma naked. She stared for few seconds, carefully backed out, took a deep breath, THEN she started screaming.

9- Ranma-kun came out as Akane was holding the STONE/stone colored (basically not wooden) table. He repeated the 'I'm Saotome Ranma, sorry bout this'.

10- Please note he was not standing on the stairs when he said it. He was standing by the interior door leading to the yard. In fact, from what I see, Japanese architecture does not allow you to stand on the upper level of a flight of stairs without obscuring your upper body.

11- The Jusenkyo trip, when Ranma knocked Genma into the water and a panda emerged, he did not lose balance and fall into the water.

12- Actually, Genma came out and balanced on a pole. The guide then explains about the curse and Ranma get knocked down into nannichuan by a swipe from his father.

13- Finally, when Akane slammed the table down on Ranma, he was squished under it. His head did not go through the table.

OK. That's it. As far as I can tell, these are the inaccuracies that usually occur when writers retell the first part of Ranma. Please remember that these are based on the version I have seen. It may be different from country to country. Now on with the fic that may never be seen in its current form again!

Disclaimer: The characters and situations belong to their respective owners. Ranma 1/2 belongs to Rumiko Takahashi. Rival Schools and Street Fighter belong to Capcom. These are their owners to the extent of my knowledge.

Notes: Retsu is the monk from the original Street Fighter and Daigo (literally meaning 'big brother') is from Rival Schools. Also, this set at the end of Rival Schools and the Ranma 1/2 series.

SCHOOL DAYS
Prologue

Ranma spat out the blood in his mouth as he got to his feet. This 'Daigo' character was a lot tougher than he had thought. After the first fight, Ranma figured he had the big guy pegged, but boy, was he wrong. They had been going at it for almost an hour now. Both had landed heavy blows on the other but Ranma had obviously felt it more. <This guy's like both Herb and Ryouga put together > he thought.

It was true; the young man Ranma was fighting had indeed taken enough punishment to down even the Eternally Lost Boy. But Ranma's opponent was no ordinary adversary. He was brimming with chi energy, just like the Prince of the Musk. Every punch or kick was backed up by a heavy dose of chi, to the point where a single kick would send his prey flying and his fists would glow with blue energy as he punched them at his target. But not only that, he was able to focus his chi to use as a shield for his body. Ranma had tried the Kachuu Tenshin Amaguriken attack on his opponent earlier but not only was it neutralized by the shield, it also left him open for a counterattack. Daigo had no compunctions in taking advantage of the situation and caught Ranma in one of his high powered combinations.

Even Ranma's apparent advantage over his opponent of being able to throw chi blasts was not helping. His opponent seemed to have a lot of experience dealing with long range fighters and his chi shield was even partially absorbing the energy in the blasts, strengthening itself.

*******

He was cornered. His back was to the wall of the alley they had been fighting in. There was no point in trying to dodge all day. The place was too narrow and his legs were too weak, having fought for so long and hard already. He couldn't even try to make a break for it either, the man's lackeys were blocking all escape and preventing any help from his friends and family. There were even a few laying in wait on the rooftops. They were the ones who could throw projectiles and were waiting to shoot him down if he tried to escape that way. Luckily, none of them had tried to interfere and it was clear why. Their 'Big Brother' could handle himself.

There was nothing left to do. It was fight but no flight. Fine then! He'd take the guy down with both arms behind his back if he had to. No one was going to beat Ranma Saotome of the Saotome School of Anything Goes Martial Arts! Rushing at his opponent, Ranma was greeted by a flurry of punches that ended with a vicious straight that sent him sailing. Game, set, match: Daigo.

Cologne shook her head as she looked between the prone form of her son-in-law and the departing figure of the one who so easily defeated him. <Ranma, what am I going to do with you? > she thought to herself as Genma hefted his son onto his shoulder. It seems her son-in-law would require some new training. He was bested twice in single combat by the same man, not an event that happens often. The man's followers had stayed out of the fight and interfered in no way. <They didn't even try to prevent us from watching with them. > she thought.

*******

Ranma regained consciousness to the gentle ministrations of Dr. Tofu. <Hmm, how do I get into these things anyway? It's not like I have a problem fighting all these challengers, but why does every martial artist in town gotta take something off of my hide? > But thinking back, he knew how he got himself into this particular altercation.

It all started about three weeks ago. A couple of thugs were picking on some guy with glasses. He went in and shoved them off, which got the guy dressed all in black and wearing a motorcycle helmet they were with to pick a fight with him. He had to admit, the guy had potential, but beating him wasn't too tough. About a week later, the guy, Akira, showed up with his 'Big Brother', who took Ranma out with one hit from his firewall technique. The move caught the young martial artist totally by surprise but for the rematch, Ranma figured he would goad the guy into using it again and then hit him with the Hiryu Shoten Ha. Things didn't go that way however.

The big man got lucky and was tipped off by one of his new lackeys who knew about Ranma's technique. He decided to scope Ranma out before the rematch and found out about how Saffron had beaten the move by flying over it. When he met Ranma for the second time, he jumped high into the air just as Ranma pulled the move off and escaped the brunt of the maneuver. His shield taking whatever damage he would have suffered. After that, the beating started.

*******

Cologne did something that could send shivers down a demon's spine and make the most virile of men to go impotent. She smiled. Writing out a reply to the letter she had just received, Cologne though, <What a stroke of luck! This is just what son-in-law needs. >

[Great-grandmother, why are you smiling? Have you thought of a new way for husband and I to come together? ] Shampoo asked when her curiosity got the better of her as she saw her elder smiling.

[Why yes Shan Pu, but that is not the only reason I'm smiling.] she answered disturbingly cheerfully. [And do I need a reason to smile great-granddaughter?] She whacked the back of her great-granddaughter's head. [Go practice your forms till its time for bed. You need to brush up.]

[Yes, great-grandmother.] Shampoo replied as she went to carry out her matriarch's command.

[What a nice little girl.] Cologne said to herself before continuing her work.

*******

Two weeks later
"Excuse me, is this the Tendo residence? I was told I could find a young martial artist by the name of Ranma Saotome here. My name is Retsu Toriyama."

"Why yes, it is. But Ranma's at school right now. He should be back anytime though. Would you like to come in for some tea, Mr. Toriyama? I'm Kasumi Tendo."

"Why thank you young lady. Yes, I would enjoy a spot of tea right about now." the short bald-headed man said in reply. "And please, call me Retsu."

Retsu was greeted to the sight of two middle-aged men playing a game of shogi as he went in the Tendo household. Assuming they were the proprietors of the establishment, he waited patiently for them to finish. All the while, marveling at how blatantly they were each trying to cheat the other. "We're home!" Retsu turned around to see a cute young lady followed by a fellow with a pigtail. <Well, > he thought, <no point waiting in the frying pan, guess it's straight to the fire. > Clearing his throat to get the attention of the elders and the youth, Retsu waited for a response. And waited.

"Hey pop. Who's the bald guy?"

"Forgive me. I am Mr. Retsu Toriyama. I have come at the suggestion of an old acquaintance of mine Are any of you familiar with a Mistress Khu Lon?"

"So the old ghoul sent ya huh? Whadaya want?" Ranma eyed the man suspiciously. Anybody Cologne sent couldn't be out to do him any favors. They were probably part of some plot to get him to go back to China with Shampoo, and would likely to be some fairly tough competition. The guy didn't look all that much though. Just a short middle-aged man in desperate need of a hairpiece. But then again, you never know.

"I think I should be discussing this with your elders as well." That almost got the attention of the elder Saotome and Tendo. "You see, I represent a new school that's being formed. We cater to those who take an interest in the Art." Now THAT got the senior's attention. "Let me explain. In the past ten years or so, there has been a rise in the number of 'exceptional' martial artists. Various scientific organizations have begun to take an interest in the matter and are sponsoring an international study program on it. Those who have an aptitude for the Art or matters relating to it are being invited to join one of our newly established schools for a semester. Perhaps you already heard of us in the news?"

"Umm, well." Ranma mumbled with his hand behind his head. "I been kinda busy lately, ya know."

"Quiet boy!" said Genma after hitting Ranma over the head. "It's a very well known program. You should feel honored, not standing around scratching your head."

"Quit it, pop! If you know so much, then why'd ya never said anything about it before, huh?"

"That's because the Anything Goes Art has no equal, so it wouldn't matter anyway. Besides, you should keep up with these things yourself." Genma was quite proud of his response as he stood over his son, looking as smug as he ever had, all the while forgetting his earlier praise of the establishment he just slammed.

"Oh, that's just too bad that you feel that way." Retsu frowned. "Well, I wouldn't want to bother you much further. Say Ranma, how about we have a little sparring match and see if you can teach an old dog like me any new tricks, hmm? You'll have to take it easy on me though."

"Sure, let's go at it in the dojo." Ranma said confidently.

Retsu couldn't help but smile to himself. It was the same thing over and over. "Gotcha! Knew all I had to do was kiss up and he wouldn't be able to refuse." he thought. Of course Ranma would have accepted regardless of how his opponent had challenged him. But then, Retsu didn't know that. Taking a ready stance when he met up with Ranma at the dojo, he noticed Ranma smirking a little. "A bit full of himself, isn't he?"

Deciding that he would take the old man down quickly, Ranma took an offensive stance. He'd have to be careful though. Cologne did send the guy after all. He noted that Retsu was in a karate stance and was already coming up with a game plan to deal with it. "You ready?"

Retsu nodded and the fight began. Ranma went in close and intended to throw a few kicks and jabs to feel his opponent out. But was stopped short even before completing the first kick. "Shoryuken!" The moment Ranma got close enough, Retsu performed a jumping uppercut that sent him flying to the other end of the dojo with his breath out of his lungs. The move was so powerful, the kick Ranma threw just bounced off the man while he was performing it.

"Hadoken" A sphere of energy almost slammed into Ranma. Luckily, he twisted his body and was able to escape the brunt of the attack. But it still sent him spiraling down onto the mat. Retsu moved in close to kick at Ranma's groin but missed as the young pigtailed martial artist rolled out of the way and got to his feet. Surprised at the lad's speedy recovery, Retsu was stunned long enough for Ranma to do the Kachuu Tenshin Amaguriken on him for his troubles. Taking the full brunt of the assault, Retsu collapsed onto the floor gasping. Tapping the mat to show his submission.

<The old guy's knows some stuff. > Ranma thought. <That chi blast was amazing! I could feel it sucking all the chi around the place. I gotta learn it. Daigo wouldn't be able block it with his chi shield. >

Meanwhile, Both Soun and Genma were trying to pick their jaws off the ground. Their upper lips may never have made contact if it weren't for old Happi falling on top of them. The old pervert was so shocked he fell off the rafters he was on while watching the fight. That jumping uppercut Retsu performed was the same move that the wandering warrior Ryu had used to defeat the Muay Thai champion Sagat. It was a powerful technique currently being copied by many martial artists around the world. The trained eyes of these three men who were there to see it performed on the fallen champion told them that this one was done only one step removed from the original form, meaning it was only one step from perfection. It has been the most sought after technique by the practitioners of Anything Goes as it was said that a master of the original form could defeat any enemy. It was even supposed to surpass the Saotome Forbidden Techniques.

"Not bad Ranma. You were pretty good. I guess you would have passed the entrance. So, you sure you're not interested in joining our school?" Retsu asked while picking up his old carcass off the mat.

Ranma was surprised at how quickly Retsu recovered. "Umm, well I AM kinda busy but I guess it wouldn't be too much troubleer"

"Oh well, if you're not interested that's just fine by us. After all, you WERE beaten by one of our seniors. Daigo Kazama if I'm not mistaken and he's not even our school's best fighter. With your potential, you should be able to beat him if you could learn a few of the tricks our students use. But since you're not interested... " Retsu began to turn and leave, knowing full well that he had gotten the lad. He reached into his coat pocket and took out a pen and a piece of document that he offered to the first young pigtailed martial artist who would jump in front of him. Surprise surprise, it was Ranma. "Sign here please."

Snatching the paper away, the elders began to meticulously go over every detail on the document. No sentence went unread, no clause went unchecked and no word went unknown. After mulling it over for some time, they came to a conclusion. They have no idea what the darnable* thing was talking about. Passing it off to Nabiki, they went on to do what they intended to do. How or when Nabiki got to the dojo, nobody knew. For that matter, cared. She was there and she would go over everything for them for a fee. It was good enough.

"How'd you know about that? What did the old ghoul tell you?" It was all ineffectual though, Retsu just stood there looking smug. It was not often that he got to be the center of attention. Being the forgotten student of Master Gokuen from the Shotokan School of Karate had that effect. For god's sake, even that nitwit Dan was more well known than he was! Not that he minded it all that much, but it was nice to be noticed once in a while.

Ranma never got to finish his line of questioning though. As he was shoved away by his father and Mr. Tendo who were alternating between genuflecting before Happosai and the new guy. "Oh great master of the Shotokan art, forgive my son's brashness. And we would be glad to send him to your school to improve on the Anything Goes Art."

Soun meanwhile, was bawling as usual. "Waah! My future son-in-laws going away to learn one of the strongest techniques of the Art! Waah!"

That snapped Retsu out of his reverie. "No, no, no Mr. Tendo. Ranma's not going to study Shotokan. He's just going to a school with plenty of other martial artists, where hopefully he'll pick up a few things from them. Your ward is very good, most people wouldn't have gotten up after what I did, but he's certainly not the best."

"Hey!"

"Don't get me wrong Ranma, as I said, you're good. But it'll be years before you'll be the best. Daigo's one of our best, but not THE best. A lot of the students know some tricks you wouldn't even dream of. As far as the martial arts aspect of the school, you'll be learning more from them than anyone else. And please, sirs. I'm hardly a master of Shotokan, much less be qualified to teach it. Most of our students know a lot more than I do." Retsu said while trying to get the two men to their feet without much success.

"So what's this about my Ranma-chan going off to a new school? And if you're not teaching him Gokuen's art, why should we let him go?" asked Happosai.

"You know about Master Gokuen!?" Retsu was astounded. Not many people were aware of his dearly departed teacher.

"Why yes. He and I started out together till he went wishy washy on me. I would have given him a little payback for a stunt he pulled a while back but why speak ill of the dead." Happosai nodded solemnly. Gokuen might have been a stick in the mud, but he knew his stuff.

<Darn! > Retsu thought. <Look at the time I have to get going or the old bat (Cologne) would kill me. > Addressing the old pervert with more respect than was due, Retsu bowed and said, "I'm sorry, but I'm on a very tight schedule. We'll have to talk more on the matter next time. Well Ranma? Are you ready to join up?"

"Well"

To be continued

Notes: Not much of a cliffhanger but we take what we can get. Daigo's moves include a firewall technique that surrounds him in swirling flame. I'm calling it 'Firewall' for the sake of this work of fiction.

*darnable as in damnable

SCHOOL DAYS: Triad - part 1
The Rules

Disclaimer: It'll cost you more to sue me than to simply ignore me. Ranma 1/2 belongs to Rumiko Takahashi. Rival Schools and Street Fighter belong to Capcom. X-men belongs to Marvel.

Notes: Ranma got beat by some guy named Daigo. Some other guy called Retsu happened to be in town looking for young martial artists to go to the school he's scouting for. Since Cologne knows him, she points him in the direction of the Tendo Dojo. And that's the quick rundown. Now onward march!

"So this is it huh? Nice set up ya got here Retsu, but why'd the name sound so familiar?" Ranma couldn't help but feel a LITTLE apprehension toward his new school for the semester. While Nerima was as much a magnet for super powered martial artists as he was for water, but there, the ENTIRE student body was not made up of them. Well, at least he would get a chance to get even with one of said practitioners of the Art. Daigo. And the great thing was that it was actually being sanctioned by the school! The only conditions being that it be held at the school gymnasium at the end of the semester and that he wouldn't try and start a fight beforehand. Which was fine with Ranma, that'll just give him a chance to see Daigo in action and develop an effective strategy.

Retsu, who was busy nursing a lump on the head from Cologne wasn't really listening. After getting Ranma to join the school by telling him about Daigo's role as the school 'enforcer' of sorts, he went over to the Nekohanten where he got a whack on the back of the head for old times sake. Oh yeah, that and his rejecting Shampoo as a student for the school, thus keeping her from her 'airen' and ruining whatever plans the 'old bat' had concocted for the poor lad. When Ranma's last question registered, he just looked at him funny. "Well it should be. I told you, we're sponsored by the scientific community. This place belongs to the Xavier's School for the Gifted. We would have sent you to one of our more mainstream locations but with your curse and fiance problems, this really is the best place to be. Now are you SURE you're not afraid of ANYTHING?"

"Heck no! I ain't afraid of anything! And ain't no place in the world that got anything on Nerima when it comes to being weird." Ranma was perhaps a bit too quick and eager to answer though. A fact not lost on the older man. He'll just have to wait and see how the lad reacts when the time comes.

<Now let's see now > Retsu though. <What was the old bat saying before she whacked me? Oh yeah, Ranma's been underestimating his opponents since that Saffron thing. And he's been too used to fighting the same old, same old. That's some of why he lost to Daigo. Guess he needs a little spice in his life. Heh heh heh, no problem around here. Oh well. Hmm, she also said something about a Cat Fist she seemed to think it was important. Guess I shouldn't have interrupted and told her that Shampoo didn't get in. God I know I'll live to regret it. I can never keep my mouth shut around the old bat. Heh, still can't believe me and the boys got away with calling her that. >

Seeing the blank expression on Retsu's face, Ranma figured the old man was in one of those spells of his again. <Weird, he ain't that old. Guess he didn't get out much, living where the heck did he live anyway? Darn, I'm doing it too. This is all pop's fault. > His own musings did not deter him from noticing what was headed his way though. Ranma took a slight defensive posture as the trio approached him.

Daigo barely cocked an eye when he noticed Ranma's stance. Bowing to Retsu, he said, "Good morning Mr. Toriyama. I see you have convinced Mr. Saotome to join us. I'm sure he would be a wonderful addition to our school."

Breaking out of his trance, Retsu smile at the big boy. "My you've gotten big since you were a little tyke. What are you now? 6'2, 6'3? And what is with that hair of yours young man? You look like a hedgehog with a James Dean complex." They both let out a hearty laugh at that old joke of theirs. "But seriously now 'little brother', you do remember the rules concerning young Ranma here don't you?"

Returning to his usually aloof mannerism, Daigo nodded. "I'll keep us both out of trouble sir." Then addressing Ranma with an amused smile, "Just remember the rules Saotome, if you want to pick a fight, don't. Whatever it is, bring it to the gymnasium. Just register for a slot at the counter and if you behave, you'll get your shot at me by the end of the term. You do anything funny on or off school grounds, then you'll have to deal with me and my gang, got it?"

"Yeah I got it. Don't worry, I got enough problems pounding me at home, I don't need ta go around looking for more. Besides" he smiled, "it'll just mean that I'll get to end the year by kicking your caboose." Of course, Ranma being who he is, said it with a lot more cockiness than it was decent. Which got him a hard poke on the chest by one of Daigo's two escorts. A cute girl with black shoulder length hair, wearing very tomboyish clothing.

"Watch what you're saying pal. Pay some respect to your elders. And don't forget to call my bro' sempai next time, you got it?" she said in not so friendly terms.

"Hey, not like I said nuthin' that ain't true. Jeez, what the heck is it with you uncute tomboys anyway?"

"What!? Why you" she was stopped by the only thing that could possibly do so, her brother's hand on her shoulder.

"Leave it be Akira. We both know his type. He didn't mean anything by it." Daigo tried to appease his sister. Knowing very well that it wouldn't last past the day. Then she'll just hunt Ranma down and grind his bones into the ground. Heaven knows how persistent she is and that she done it before for a whole lot less. And this is the guy who beat her up about a month ago. <I'll never understand what's with her and brawling with every Tom, Dick and Harry who looks at her funny. At least she protects her pretty little face with that motorcycle helmet she wears, even if it does make it hard to tell that she's not a guy. But it wouldn't do to mar something that's going to break so many hearts. > He thought as he shook his head slightly at her.

"You got lucky Saotome." She said with daggers. Whether she was referring to Ranma's lack of respect or their last fight, well, even she's wasn't too sure about that.

"Yeah whatever." Ranma replied nonchalantly. "Hey, Daigo, don't ya know some guy call Akira too. He was the one with a helmet and dress all in black right?"

Both Daigo and the other girl with him got a nasty look from Akira as they laughed while Ranma got to go into LEO again, and on a different airline too. Wonder if flying Akira Airline would effect his standing with Akane Airline. Retsu just smiled broadly while he received the same look the other two were getting. "I just love student interaction." he thought.

Notes: I hope I dropped enough hints on Akira without it sounding too forced out. Anyway, I intend to have the other girl with Daigo to play a major role, so her presence there IS important. And the name of the school is The Xavier's School for the Gifted, Japan (XSGJ), in case I refer back to it.

Here's a short rant; I originally did not want to write this because I felt the characters were too obscure. I was right. So here's a quick rundown:
1. Akira (Rival Schools) - in the game, she dressed all in black while in search of her brother and was thought to be a guy. She got beat by Ranma in the prologue, who thought she was a guy. He still does.
2. Daigo (Rival Schools) - is Akira's brother and he beat Ranma TWICE. He's the school's enforcer and leader of all the gangs. He's promised to give Ranma a rematch at the end of the year if Ranma can behave himself till then.
3. Retsu (Street Fighter) - no longer particularly important to the story but might still make a few appearances.
4. Ranma (Ranma 1/2) - most of you know him already, I'm just putting him here so he won't feel left out on his first day. Poor dear.
5. Mystery girl (?????? ????) - it's a mystery. She's the other girl who followed Daigo out to greet Retsu and Ranma.

SCHOOL DAYS: Triad - part 2

Disclaimer: Yours, mine. Why can't we just share and share alike? I own nothing. The characters in this work of fiction belong to their respective owners. Ranma 1/2 belongs to Rumiko Takahashi. Rival Schools belongs to Capcom. Bloody Roar belongs to Hudson.

Notes: Not much happened prior to this. Just a few hints on the motivations for some of the characters. Also, this school condones fights as long as they held under supervision at the school's gymnasium. Well it IS a school for martial artists after all. Umm, that's about it I guess.

Fairly important note: There are no original characters in this fiction. Even the extras are from one series or another. Bye the way, characters in Bloody Roar can change into various were-animals.

Ranma couldn't explain it. It's never happened to him before. Well, actually it did. It was during his little orientation with Daigo earlier. He couldn't quite put his finger on it then or now for that matter, but something was definitely amidst. He was nervous. Afraid was more like it actually, and he didn't know why. Something about the huge golden maned man in front of him was making him wished he had never set foot in the office.
