Not bad, but the "Akane-Gets-Sent-To-Another-Universe" idea has been
done before, and the best one bar none is Krista Perry's "Hearts of Ice".
Akane winding up in Balamb Garden is interesting, but I think it
would be better done with Ryoga. He could show up with amnesia, and with HIS
sense of direction, there's no telling how he got there from Nerima. I also
think that Ryoga's far better suited to take on a T-Rexaur than Akane. Those
big bastards are TOUGH! With 30,000 HP, they can take a lickin'.
The way you presented this idea, you have basically put Akane in the
role of Rinoa which diminishes the whole thing. One thing readers don't want
to see is a character from another series/game/whatever stepping into the
role of a character from the original.
As for how I would do it, well, the same up till the T-Rexaur bit.
After Quistis sees Ryoga in action (she's never seen anyone whop a T-Rexaur
with his bare hands), she invites him to join Balamb Garden. He accepts, and
they all see his enormous ki generating abilities as time goes by. I can
also imagine a scene where Ryoga and Zell go toe-to-toe, with Zell getting
blasted by a good Shi Shi Hokodan.
With this approach, you could avoid just re-telling FF8 with a Ranma
character thrown into the mix. You could reallyshake things up and create
something new and refreshing.
