Okay, it's my fault for not explaining how NGE/BT fic would be practical,
especially since I'm not familiar with BT itself. But there's also
something
else about the Evangelions that I should point out.

Maybe, but take into consideration that it was designed specifically to
deal with 60 meter-plus behemouths, not small, highly maunverable
targets (not tanks, which are slow and cumbersome in their right). So
in this aspect, the BT has natural maunverablity and dexterity. Not only
60-meter tall Evas would have to dodge many tall buildings in purisit
of the BT, since EVAs are generally limited to their home-terrority
due to their lack of sustained power source, but also have greater
diffuclity
in catching the small targets. Much like yourself trying to catch a pesky
housefly with bare fingers, in cramped closetspace.
Heck, even against copters in End of Evangelion movie, Asuka's Unit 02,
despite being fast for its size, was still noticiably slow.

But their power supply are pretty much limited to one minute in
high-activity
mode, or 5 minutes in normal mode. And their redundant battery back-ups
doesn't provide that much power either. They're completly dependant on
their umblicial cord for power source. What's even worse is that it's
vulnerable to attacks and easily severed.
BTs simply can cut the cord and wait until its power runs out, leaving it
completely defenseless. Until then, they would just have to weather
out its attacks.
As for S2 units, shame on you guys for using it as a cheap excuse out of
a fic. It's no good if Evas are equipped without a type of weakness, and
the fic wouldn't be as interesting as without it.

THIS is the area where BTs are most vulnerable; lack of siginificant
defenses against EVA's power. Eva has so much raw power that using
weapons would be a waste of ammo and time against BTs.

The Evangelions are approximately 60-65 meters tall.
But as I said earlier, smaller BTs has an advantage in its size, since
there's
plently of places for it to hide in an ambush. Just pick a good place and
wait
for an Eva to pass, then take your best shot. Not to mention that they have
faster turnabout time, compared to Evas because of their sheer mass.

Try shooting running mice with a handgun. It's not that easy. You'd be more
likely to miss than score a hit.

Again, a cheap excuse.

About right.
Still...
Even worse, Evas aren't suited for offensive and far-ground battles without
a S2 unit (which we've already rejected as being an easy way out). At most,
it's better reserved for defending its base, and this in turn will generate
even greater problems for the unit, thanks to greater number of hiding
spaces
for the BTs.
There's also matter of money; it's obiviously that EVAs are VERY expensive
to build, compared to most of BTs. With the amount of money and resources
required to build a single EVA, you could build a squadron or two of
adequately
balanced features that can whittle down Eva to its size using hit-and-run
tatics, as well precision strikes, scarificing power and armor for speed
and
mobility.
So, taking in consideration of all above, yes it IS possible for a BT/NGE
xover/
fusion fic. Using the similar premise found in NGE series, we could have an
enormous nation or city with immense resoures at its disposal, but slowly
dying
a slow death and surrounded by immense BT forces. In its last gamble, it
unleashes an experimental model based on ancient designs uncovered in a
remote location. To the opposing forces, it's a surprise when they find out
they're rebuffed by the immense Evangelion, so they try to whittle it down.
Basically, a situation with two or three units attempting to defend a city
of billions of inhabitants, and cris-crossing buildings and mazes of roads
against seemingly unlimited numbers of tiny BTs.
My point? I'm trying to say that it COULD be possible for a xover/fusion,
if you ignore some technical details such as finical issue and S2 unit, and
few other glaring details (though I'd be hard-pressed to find a decent way
to work out a storyplot involving them myself). But since I'm not as
familiar with BT as others are, I can't support this particular issue,
so I'm going to stand down.
In all honesty, the best units that you could probably send against an eva
are Elementals and Protomechs. They may lack the fire power of a battlemech,
but their extremely small size
and high manuvarability might just work. I see a binary of protomechs usind
hit and run tactics on an Eva while the Elementals cut power then climb the
Eva in an attempt to kill the pilot.
For those who don't know, Elementals are a type of battle armor about seven
to eight ft tall. The suit can take a direct hit from a battlmechs medium
laser and when a weapon does breach the armor
a healing substance seals the breach in armor and the elementals wound while
the suit administers. They carry enough strength to rip armor plates off a
battlemech, and jumpjets with a range of about 195 meters(All you BT people,
please correct me if I'am wrong). Add to that is a small laser, machine gun,
and a detachable short range missle launcher on its back. These guys can
very easily bring down a battlemech by themselves.
I don't know much about Protomechs except that they are bigger than an
Elemental, and smaller than a battlemech. They are cheaper to produce than a
battlemech and in gropus of 5 can use their speed and manuverability to
bring one down.
Here's a fun little idea. Have the Elementals protecting Nerv during
Seele's attack. Heck one star (25 Elementals) would more than enough to
route the attacking forces. This way Eva02 is kept in reserve till the mass
production models land, meaning Asuka's power cord is still intact. Have the
Elementals attempting to destroy the
White Eva's Dummy plugs while Asuka makes her attack. I'm not saying the
Elementals would have an easy time of it but do you think an Eva is going to
notice one of these little guys climbing up its back?
