As a rabid Mihoshi fanboy, I figured I'd put my two cents in here...and
give a little C&C while I'm at it, since I managed to let it slip my mind
earlier...^_^;;
I see someone is of the "Mihoshi is more than she appears to be"
sentiment.
Mihoshi is far to verbal and coherent. She makes complicated points and
discusses involved topics with seeming ease. She's Mihoshi. She calmly
evaluates a potential combat situation and chooses a course of action.
She's Mihoshi. She doesn't freeze up in panic or be destructive while
bumbling and crying. She's Mihoshi. See my point?
You're forgetting that this fic is set in the OAV continuity. OAV Mihoshi
*is* verbal and coherent...not that coherent always means bright. Mihoshi
can be calm during an evaluation, and even choose a course of action. She
has been seen to do so, although it's not necessarily always a brilliant
analysis or decision. And while she might have been a little quicker during
panic that expected here, I don't see how you can say she wasn't
destructive. She accidentally blew up the big badass invasion ship, fucked
the Rack N' Ruin up something fierce, and got her own ship just as fucked
up. That, to me, definitely counts as 'destructive'.
As for the bumbling and crying...the OAV Mihoshi does a lot less of that
than the TV Mihoshi. You are perhaps thinking of the Mihoshi who constantly
whines for Kiyone...she's not the same Mihoshi as the original OAV Mihoshi.
OAV Mihoshi is not a totally incompetent crybaby who shouldn't have been
accepted into the GP in the first place. The OAV Mihoshi is a bubblehead
with a sharp eye for detail and an analytical mind...a living oxymoron, but
that's Mihoshi for you. She's a rather dim bulb, given to lazy habits, with
an absurd aura of luck and altered probability, and incredible destructive
tendencies, but she *is* competent.
Also, wouldn't Tenchi be just a bit surprised by this change in the
blond bubble head?
Not particularly. After all, he's never been alone with her, much less
alone in space with her. He probably figures this is how she usually is
when she's not loafing around on Earth.
