Subject: {My reply} [FFML] [MSTed] 'Ranma Kills!' Pt. 1 [R1/2]

Wow it's a good thing I Temp joined the list to gather any Halloween
stuff that appeared or I would have missed this. Where did you dig >this up
from anyway?

Heh, I've been meaning to MST this for a while actually, just never got around
to it until now and 'Ranma Kills!' just seemed to be an appropriate title for a
Halloween MSTing. (Of course, I ended up being a day too late....) ;P

"Ranma Kills!" is the property of Sir Asayogure and he's welcome to
it. I do not intend to offend him for making fun of his work like this >but I
figure it's only a matter of time before someone does. Think of >this as
another form of C&C. ;)

Dr. Forrester held the fanfic up to the viewscreen. "I bid you pain,
Joel, with 'Ranma Kills!' by Sir Asayogure. Send them the fanfic, >Frank..."

Just so the general reading audience knows this was never meant
as a "fanfic" it was stress relief pure and simple. I wrote it, ran it
through a spell checker and sent it. If anything it was a SPAM-fic >sort of
thinger.

Okay, but it was still fun to MST. ;P

[snip]

Crow: <George Carlin> This fic is
rrrrrrrrreally.....rrrrrrrrrreally....
sssssssssssssssssloooooooow....

That is the way I write, I take my time I build up to things and
I describe things. I can't stand reading stories with a plot
line that goes:

This happened
Then this happened
Then everyone laughed
Then some more stuff happened
... etc etc.

That riff was mostly playing on the 'everything went in slow motion next,' line.
I figured it would make for some humorous imagery and slo-mo jokes. ;P

If you don't like the way I write I would be more than happy
to direct you to a few fanfics that are the complete opposite
of my writing style

I have no problem with the way you write at all. I've MSTed fics with many
different writing styles, heck, I've even MSTed fanfics that were highly
acclaimed on the FFML just for the sheer challenge.

[snip]

Suddenly Ranma's world focused again,

Tom: Great! So from this point on, the rest of this fic should be
totally IC and canon, right?

Joel: Hey, there's always hope, right?

It was never intended to be In Character or follow any conventional
canon, this was a stress relief pure and simple. The title
itself should tell you that.

I know that, but it also leaves a lot of opportunities for laughs by pointing
out all of it's flaws in a humorous manner and sometimes exaggerating them for
comic effect. Many people are convinced that 'California Dreaming' was a parody
of bad fics. I don't know if it is for sure or not but it doesn't matter
because it still made for a fun MSTing, especially the more OOC and ridiculous
the plot.

[snip]

"I'm Ranma Saotome, sorry about this"

Tom: You should be, pal, you should be.

I didn't mean it like that. But if you took
such strong offense to this then I am glad you have
found a way to deal with it.

I didn't take offense at all! That comment was aimed at the Ranma in this fic,
at his behavior in the fanfic and that Tom feels Ranma should apologize for
acting so OOC.

[snip]

*END FOR NOW!!*

Tom: Good! This fic can't end enough for me! The whole thing was >so
un-Ranma, I felt like I was reading a 'Punisher' comic or >something!

Joel: No kidding. I mean, Ranma going postal and maiming people
just doesn't work when he wouldn't even let Soun and Genma mail
Happosai to the north pole....

Tom: Yeah. And part of the central concept of the series is that
things AREN'T black vs. white the way this author is portraying. >Nobody in the
manga is a saint, and nobody is without some sort of >redeeming virtue at least
once in a while.

Rape does not have to be thought about. It cannot be justified and it
is never okay. Now if the female (or male) participant is willing (as >so many
people have tried to point out to me) then it is not really >rape is it? Then
it is role playing and that is your own business. But >save your breath if you
intend to convince me that rape is not a >black and white issue, for me it is.
As far as I am concerned there >would be no second chances and I really wouldn't
care about >reasons or "whatifs." This is exactly the way I would react (in
part) >to this situation if I was Ranma, which is exactly how and why I was
writing this in the first place.

Gary touched on this point in his e-mail very well and I can't think of much
else to add to it other than to say that everyone has a right to their opinion
on how people should be punished for a crime. IMHO, Ranma was out of line,
murdering a gang for an attempted crime and other crimes that he himself did not
witness, but again, that's my opinion and you have your own, which you're
entitled to. Of course, I also have the option of having fun with your opinion
in my MSTing. Feel free to make fun of mine if you wish. ;P

Crow: Well, at the very least, it had a lot of action. That's better
than nothing.

Tom: Are you kidding me?!? Ranma didn't use ANY of his >signature moves, he
ripped off Ryouga's Full Shishi Hokodan, >which, by the way, uses DEPRESSION as
a weapon, not RAGE, >and then he suddenly becomes GOD when he determines none of
the gang members have the right to LIVE anymore....

Just to clarify a point, I did not write it to rip off Ryouga's move.
Yes I am fully aware that his move is fueled by depression. Ranma's >move was
similar but with lethal intent, Ryouga's is not intended to >kill as far as I
have been able to determine.

Yes, but the move was so much like Ryouga's Full Shishi Hokodan that I couldn't
help commenting on it a couple of times for a laugh. It wasn't meant as an
angry accusation. ;P

Joel: Um, Tom?

Tom: <continuing> .....then Ranma stands there like an idiot and >gets himself
shot and he DIES! Volia! A great place to end the fic >and show the reader
what false bravado gets them! But >NOOOOOO.....

I agree that part was a little funky, but so what? This was not
supposed to be taken seriously.

The whole Tom getting more and more peeved at the flaws in the fic until he goes
nuts bit is *intentional* in order to parody Ranma's own transformation into a
beast of rage in this fic and then lead into the scene where Tom humorously
attacks Dr. F. I'm not venting my own rage at the fic through Tom here, it's
meant to parody the events of this fanfic.

Crow: Uh, Tom, are you okay?

Tom: <steam starting to rise from his bubbledome> Instead, we >have
some....'being of light' or some crap like that, come down to >earth, plays
tonsil hockey with Ranma and gives him the powers of >the force, even when it's
PAINFULLY obvious that the author is >trying to pad out the fic by making this
gang seem tougher than they >really are because anyone with half a BRAIN knows
Ranma could >have wasted these guys in 5 seconds flat without breaking a
SWEAT!!!

That wasn't the point, as I see it Ranma has been conditioned NOT >(yes I
emphasize particular points with all capitals, deal with it) to kill.
So it had to have extreme cause and he had to be forced into the >killing.

By 'wasted these guys in five seconds', I didn't mean 'kill them', I meant Ranma
probably would have used a 'Hyu Shoten Ha' to wipe them out or else knocked them
all unconsious with a few well placed blows, which would have been easy for
Ranma if most of them were as out of shape and fat as you described them in the
fic.

Also, as I pointed out in the MSTing, if Ranma was fast enough to duck a bullet
from a small handgun at point blank range, then WHY would he just stand there 10
feet away and let himself get shot with a shotgun by a obviously severely
injured gang member when he could have avoided the blast a number of ways with
his superior speed and agility.

Maybe if the thug aimed his gun at the girl and Ranma barely had enough time to
push *her* out of the way of the blast, then maybe I could see him getting shot.
Then again, Ranma's managed to hussle Akane out of tight spots like that before
without inury so who knows? :P

Crow: <bigsweats> C-Come on, Servo, you're thinking about this >way too
much....

Joel: Just think happy thoughts, Tom! Happy thoughts!

Tom: <a black aura forms around his bubblehead, it's edges >rippling with a
crimson, blood-like substance that flickers wildly >about like flames from a
fire.> AND THE WAY THE AUTHOR >KEPT FEELING THE NEED TO EXPLAIN *EVERY* SINGLE
LITTLE DEVELOPMENT, FROM THE POSSIBLE IMPACT OF A >MISSED PUNCH TO HOW WE
SHOULD FEEL ABOUT THE >BLACK LEATHER GANG!!! GOD, IT JUST MAKES ME *SO* >MAD!!!
I'M FILLED WITH ANGER!!! I'M ENRAGED!!! I'M >FURIOUS!!! I'M....I'M GOING
TO....TO....TO....

It is called descriptive detail. Try picking up almost any Sci-fi
novel in any book store in America and reading the first chapter,
I expect you will find a LOT of descriptive detail. If you don't like
that, then try reading script format pal.

Yeah, but it's one thing to be descriptive, it's another thing to tell the
reader who they should hate, how much a missed punch would hurt if it connected,
and how difficult a crushed wrist is to repair. I mean, the readers KNOW that
when a wrist is crushed into powder, a doctor isn't going to go 'Well, just put
a band-aid on it, take some flintstone vitamins and call me in the morning.' ;P

[snip]

Finally I'd like to thank Sir Asayogure for writing 'Ranma Kills!' and
giving me a lot of material to work with. I hope you're not
offended. It's all meant in good fun. :)

First of all I don't go by "Sir" any more I have decided I don't like
titles. If you want to use it go ahead.

I only used it cause it was the name on the fic. :)

Next I want to assure you I am by no means offended. I have to >admit I
laughed a few times during this. A couple of the bits were >really funny. The
George of the jungle thing and the Jim Carrey thing >and the Homer "urge to
kill" thing were all REALLY good. I may >have to post this on my RGAC homepage
just for the hell of it.
[grins]

By all means, post it! From the earlier tone in the fanfic, I thought you were
angry with me. I'm glad you found the MSTing amusing. :)

Have a nice day all you FFML people out there.

Ditto! :)

Sincerely,

Megane 6.7
