This is getting seriously out of hand. Just because some "top-notcher's" say it's okay,
doesn't make it legitimate. If this is true, then the hiragana "う" could also be
translated as "h" in English, huh? (Though I'm assuming most people on this list would
have Japanese-capable computers, if you don't, that is the symbol for "u" that you are
not seeing).
Let's test this out:
Take the kanji for "umi" (sea or ocean). Let's say you wanted to write it in hiragana
instead of kanji. If it holds true that "h" is a legitimate roumaji spelling of the
word, then you would be writing...wait for it...
"HMI"!
Whoever came up with that system of romanization--and I don't even care if the guy WAS
Japanese--he's made life just a little more complicated for beginners of the language.
I urge people to consider this when they write their stories. Just because something's
written down doesn't mean it's right. Don't conform! Cause ya' gotta have *style*!
Hehe...^_^

Speaking of the letter "h," why did all these Japanese names end in
an "h" when the ONLY consonant that romaji words can end in is "n?"
Because the "ou" kana (which are pronounced as a long o) can also be romanized
as "oh".
Well, then they may as well spell Ryouga's name "Ryohga."
It would be correct.
Now, as my civic duty to the list, remember: There is no substitute for "ou." No
artificial colors or flavors..With the exception of "oo," of course. Um...so
there IS a substitute. BUT JUST ONE! THAT'S IT! I will respond to little errors
like this individually, rather than to the list itself.
Be careful in responding to errors that your "corrections" are really correct.
"oh" *is* a legitimate romanization for "ou". (I suggest reading the
sci.lang.japan FAQ at http://www.hayamasa.demon.co.uk/afaq/afaq.html and
paying particular attention to section 5.3.2 in "other variations in
romanization systems".)
