You don't have to throw in _all_ of them, just the ones that would
definitely try to hunt down Ranma and Akane if they vanished.  And sure, it
would still me a R1/2/Matrix x-over; to maintain a balance, you'd just have
to make the story longer or marginalize most of the Ranma characters' roles.

But I stand by my assertion that it doesn't make sense to simply have them
not be there.

If there are several Matrices, short of freeing Ukyou and the others from the Matrix (which has already been rejected), it is impossible to include them in much of the plot.  Impossible in all of the story if they don't return to the Ranmaverse Matrix.

Besides, it is possible that the characters who would attempt to hunt Ranma down would fail, even if they do remain in the story.  In that case, writing them in would be both pointless and boring.

(Of course, I am a big Ukyou fan, so this is purely on the hypothetical branch of things, and has nothing to do with my personal preferences...)
