Okay.

Halloween is nearly upon us.

I am an afficionado of certain bands, and I came across the lyrics to the song 'A Gothic Romance (Red Roses for the Devil's Whore)', By Cradle of Filth. They have inspired other works by me (Unfortunately).

I decided that they would be interesting in this format, along with my own twiddling and prose addition.

If it comes to it, I may write this as a straight 'fic.

For some reason, the NERV staff had decided to throw a Halloween party. I could see the Pilots, in various costume; Rei took the garb of a Ghost. It was somehow fitting, having her temperament and appearance. The others... Shinji seemed to be trying out a Crusader costume, Asuka- the Devil herself (How I laughed when I thought of the Hebrew Devil, Lillith!). Touji and Kensuke were there, dressed as Dracula and Rambo respectively.

I wore black, and a mirror round my neck. To anyone who asked who I was, I held the mirror in front of my face and told them I had come as everyone else.

Then I saw... her. She was dressed as a noblewoman from one of the Gaijin countries, with a bizarre masquerade mask in front of her eyes. She walked over to me...

In the pale azured dawn like Ligea reborn

I at once endeavoured to see her again
Stirring from midnight's inertia
Knowing not even her name
On a thin precipice over carnal abyss
I danced like a blind acolyte
Drunk on red wine, her dead lips on mine,
Suffused with the perfume of night...

For hours I scoured the surrounding grounds
In vain that we might meet
When storm clouds broke, ashened, fatigued,
I took refuge in a cemetery...

Sleep, usher dreams,
Turn to nightmares from a sunless nether

Mistress of the dark
I know now what thou art

Screams, haunt my sleep,
Dragged from nightmares thou hast wed together

Lamia and lemures
Spawned thee leche
To snare my flesh

Deep stained pain that I had dreamt
Flaunted demise, life's punishment
Leaving little strength to seal this wretched tomb...

But poisoned nectar within me stirs
Up feverous desire and morbid purpose to search
Through cobwebbed drapery to where she swoons
Goddess of the graveyard, of the tempest and moon
In flawless fatal beauty her very visage compels
Glimpses of a heaven where ghost companies fell
To mourning the loss of God in blackest velvet
Enrobed in their downfall like a swift silhouette

I am grieving the loss of life in sombre velvet
Enrobed in Death's shadow like a swifter silhouette...

I found myself in an abandoned room, with the figures of fallen giants around me. They looked vaguely familiar...

My heart missed a beat as I realised that I was in the most forgotten of places within Terminal Dogma; the legendary Evangelion Graveyard, where the failed and the obscene were thrown to rot and corrode, where no man was allowed- indeed, no man should know about. There was an eerie glow, and I could hear mad laughter as she, nude and aflame, lept from bone to armour, across the dead and the inactive.

As she faded, I realised that a Tanto was on the slab of armour I had woken upon. I could hear... things chittering and laughing in the darkness, and saw a flash of red- eyes?- and a glimpse of swirling blue against chalky white.

I would not survive until anyone arrived; I would not be reported missing for at least a month, being on leave. Noone would look here.

The last thing I saw before I allowed the darkness to take me was my hand guiding the Tanto to my neck.
