About time someone wrote this crossover.
Just a few points that should be noted when writing such a crossover.
First, since Larva can speak and take off his mask, it can be assumed
that this fic takes place in TV continuity. Now for this, it should be
noted that Miyu is supposed to be the Guardian for Japan, defending it
from incursions from Western Shinma. Therefore she would not leave
Japan without a VERY good reason. (say, to peempt an attack from the
western Shinma. OVA Miyu might do so since she only has to return the
Shinma back to the Dark, so she might pursue it to America. That being
said, OVA Miyu is a lot more inhuman, powerful and creepy. She could
give the resident vampires the creeps)
Second, Shinma are more powerful than the vampires. No offence to Buffy
fans out there, but the vampires in the series are wusses compared to
the Shinma and the classic Vampire. Buffy alone would have no chance
against a Shinma. Most of the Shinma can fly, which puts the Slayer at
a major disadvantage. Other known powers: summon beasts, isolation in
another dimension, charm and other mind games, use forms other than
human(a lizard, a doll, a dog are known examples), immaterial forms(one
of the Shinma in the series did not have a physical form to attack. How
Buffy would handle this is a total mystery).
Third, the Shinma are a lot more subtle than the vampires. With their
ability to affect the minds of their victims, it is not readily
apparent that they are being affected by Shinma. They also have the
tendency to prey only on the weak willed and act from behind the
scenes. Their purposes sometimes have nothing to do with humans at all,
although quite a number like to torture humans.
Fourth, they have none of the weaknesses associated with vampires. They
are not dependent on blood for survival(negative emotions are just
fine, some of the Shinma could even live on human food alone), so
hunting them would be difficult. Sunlight does not affect them. I
seriously doubt driving a stake through one's heart(if humanoid) would
kill it (by the way, this is a really bad idea for Miyu. This was
exactly how she defeated Larva. He stabbed her through the heart and
she went vampire and sucked his blood.)
On the other hand, this gives a chilling example for Buffy. It would
show her what might become of her if she had to go around killing
vampires for eternity.
My idea for such a crossover would be for Buffy to go to Japan or for a
Shinma to go to Sunnydale and run into a Western Shinma. Not all the
Shinma in the TV series are evil, they might decide to help Buffy
against a powerful enemy. (My personal favorite was the Shinma that was
adopted as a daughter by a human)
All that having said, does someone know what happens in the final
episode of the TV series. I can't seem to find that episode where she
fights the ultra Bird demon. Private replies please.
