These tracks don't converge until later on, but both are integral.
Chapter
1R is difficult to understand without having seen the Matrix, 1M is
near-impossible.
Synopsis:
Nabiki is a specialized agent designed to prevent them from finding
Ranma.
Ranma is meant to surpass Neo.
... yeah. The Matrix is a computer-generated world. Neo has the power to
control what is generated. How do you surpass that, while within the world?
All you need to know so far; Several scenes
are written in each fic before convergence.
Chapter One, Track M: "More than One"
-------------------------------
"I assume you by now are quite sure that what I told you before, wasn't
exactly the literal truth."
"Yes, I figured that. As it turned out, I am the One."
"Well, are you ready to be hit with even more confusing news?"
At this, the man listening nodded slightly.
"Well, you're not the -only- One.
Since when did the Oracle begin telling things straight out like this? Last
time she said something to Neo, she said that he was not the one and that
either he or Morpheus or die. Turns out he *was* the One, and that he *did*
die--truth hidden behind twisted, masked words. This sentence is simply too
blatant for the Oracle to be IC. (And you do want IC, yes?)
There is another, whose powers are meant
to surpass your own.
I covered this before. In the Matrix, Neo is pretty much unparalleled
because he *controls* the system. Ranma may be more powerful outside, but
inside there's no real way to be "more powerful" than Neo.
However, he will be difficult to get to, as he is being
kept under guard by a specialized agent."
"What kind of agent?"
"Well.. for one, this agent does not require another body. You would
think
that would make it easier to kill, but it doesn't. It has managed to get
almost the entire town that it works in under blackmail, and there are
some
martial artists there who are as close to your level as one can get
without
being unplugged."
Um...
What does skill have anything to do with being plugged? As long as they're
in the system and under its control, they're ultimately powerless. (Refer to
Neo's mouth melting shut under the Agents' command in the beginning).
"Okay. Where is this supposed to be, and what is the new One's identity?"
"The Nerima-ku of Tokyo, and his name is Ranma Saotome."
That is so off-par for the Oracle. She doesn't come out and just *say* "here
is the treasure, go find it".
With his objective in mind, Neo left the Oracle's apartment and began
heading for a phone to recall back to the Nebuchadnezzar. It would take a
bit of searching to get the exact physical location of the Matrix sector
that Ranma was in. There were several Matrices, set to slightly different
timelines and years; and a Tokyo in each one.
Not true, according to canon. There is only one Matrix that enslaves all of
humanity (except for those who've escaped, like Neo, Morpheus, Trinity, and
so forth). This may be an interesting possibility to explore, but it's also
a blatant shove-aside of the source material that exists at this point in
time. (Then again, a Ranma/Matrix Xover is already a huge violation of both
movies, so this point is really moot.)
-------------------------------
Chapter One, Track R. "Agent Nabiki"
-------------------------------
"Neo may have found out from one of his sources about Ranma."
"Neo? Isn't that the guy who killed Smith?"
"Yes. You need to prevent him from entering the Tokyo matrix at all
costs.
Your life, the Lives of anyone else in the area; we're even sending you a
squad of 16 agents. This is risky, and may not succeed.
... yeah. I can tell you it definitely won't. Although this is a "different
Matrix", I'm willing to bet that same rules apply as in the original Matrix,
and that Neo can manipulate this one as well. Sixteen agents, or sixteen
thousand, doesn't matter; remember what he did at the end of the movie.
Your blackmail
scheme has worked, correct?"
"Right. I have nearly the entire town at my disposal."
Why would Nabiki, even as an Agent--ESPECIALLY as an Agent--need a town,
when she has the power to stretch physics and control people at will?
Assuming she's a "special" agent, she'd be even better at this. And Agents
have no need to act tactful towards the inhabitants of the Matrix--the only
time an Agent was seen acting polite was during the dinner with the betrayer
(I forget his name at this time...), and that's because he was outside the
Matrix, holding secrets in front of the Agent's nose and basically twisting
him around his little finger.
"Good. On the very likely chance that Neo is not stopped by the defenses,
I doubt Nabiki would take such an obviously-stupid risk, unless she's not
aware of Neo's status as the One--which, if she knows about him at all, she
is probably aware of. Haven't seen a lot of Ranma myself but Nabiki strikes
me as more intelligent than that.
you must prevent Ranma from being unplugged. Kill him if you have to,
just
see that he does not get out alive."
Uh huh... if they couldn't kill Neo, how can they kill the "stronger"
Ranma?
"Okay."
Nabiki put up the phone, realizing that Ranma had to be prevented from
leaving the system alive AT ALL COSTS. this particular matrix was built
on
top of what was once Jusenkyo Valley in China, so the computer system
never
quite worked right. For example, people could pull things out of thin
air.
Oh, good, a convenient source of contrivances, then.
She hoped that the aura still surrounding the valley would set back Neo
from
finding it. Otherwise, she had no delusions like Agent Jones did. If Neo
got
in, there would be no stopping him. It might also be difficult to get rid
of
Ranma in time.
Nabiki's going on pure hopes. Hmmm...
There's a coupla ideas that are interesting (well, only one: the multiple
Matrix bit), but the concepts here need a lot more thinking out.
