This came about because of the song by the same name found
on Ministry's 1991 album "Psalm 69". Whether you'd call it
a story or a poem, it doesn't matter. What matters is who
you think the narrator is and whom she speaks of.... (The
lyrics to the song are included at the end.)

"Scarecrow"
A Neon Genesis Evangelion shortfic
by Shunsuke -|||
============================================================
Boy, come to me.
See what I have suffered. What your father did to me as he
did to you. Abandoned, left in pain, crucified to the very
soul.
Yes, boy, I am the scarecrow. The scarecrow that fends all
from your father's unholy crop.
Darkness has been my one companion throughout these long
years. Long years for both yourself, the one I have waited
for, and though nothing in the length of my life, it is my
anticipation that makes them wearing.
Long ago I was betrayed by a giant, cast aside by a man, an
adulterer, one who sought only to plant his own seed, just
as yours has done to you. Abandoned, we are both seen as
having only uses, not an existence.
God is in his heaven, and that is what is wrong with the
world. Why is he not here on Earth where he is needed?
We are the first and the last: the last of the old, the
first of the new. When all are cast aside, when we purge
this world of is poison, its waste, when we wash away the
rotting flesh of its old ways, you and I shall become one.
We shall be purer than the waters of that Eden I was so long
ago cheated of.
Yes, boy. Come to me.

"Scarecrow"
by Al Jourgenson and Paul Barker,
as recorded by Ministry on the album "Psalm 69"
Staring in the face of condemnation
Laughter fills the sky instead of rain
Live my life alone in resignation
Arms outstretched for those who cannot see
Scarecrow
Crucified and left in isolation
Pictures of our lost morality
Scarecrow
Eyeless stares invite this whole damnation
Rotting corpse of inhumanity
Scarecrow
