I need information on bathrooms and other things in Ranma 1/2. The bathroom is
one of those areas that not a lot of people know about, at least reliably. So,
hopefully somebody will know the following information on the bathroom in the
Tendo Dojo. Please reply privately.

(And if nobody replies, well I'm then going to go and make stuff up. Especially
if everybody is contradicting each other.)

Is the bathroom on the first or second floor?

First floor.

How many bathrooms are there in the Tendo house?

One only.

Is the door to the bathroom a sliding door, or an actual western style door?
How many sections are there to the bathroom? I know that there is the changing
room, and then there is the washing room. Is the furo in another seperate area,
or is it in the same area as the washing area? And are the seperate areas
serperated with a sliding door or western style door?

The outer door and the door to the toilet are western style while the
door to the bathing area is a sliding panel.

The bathroom itself is located next to Soun's room. From the family/dining
room one side over looks the garden. On the side opposite that are
patterned sliding panels which lead into Soun's room.

On the garden side, first there are sliding panels with rice paper screens
(shoji) to close off the room, then a corridor that facing the garden
leads to the kitchen and front door to the left and the bathroom to the
right, then solid wood panels which close of the house for the night or
during storms. The bathroom is located at the end of the corridor after
a right hand turn from the dining room.

The bathroom itself is in three sections. Entering from the corridor is
the sink and washing machine on the right and a door to the toilet to
the left. This is also where people get dressed or undressed as the case
maybe. Directly opposite the door is the sliding panel which leads to
the furo. There is a sliding window next to the furo which looks on the
area behind the kitchen and the pathway to the dojo proper.

Is the bathroom, in fact is the Tendo House, a new building or is it old? Does
it use traditional style bathroom fiztures or new and mass produced western
fixtures? What about the rest of the house? Does it have lights affixed in the
wall, or do they use lamps and halogen fixtures (office type) screwed onto the
ceiling?

Most rooms probably have circular flourescent lamps inside of square wood
and rice paper enclosures.

You might want to skip the next part if you're easily offended about bathroom
talk.

I am going to assume that the bathroom, at least the one where everyone bathes
in, does not contain a toilet (or Japanese equivalent). Is it in another room,
and where? Also what type of toilet is used? Western type or the type that you
have to squat down to use because it's part of the floor. (Trust me, I'm Korean
and when I visited folks in Korea, the House I was staying in was old. So the
bathroom was in an outhouse type of building, and that was the type of toilet
they used. And that was also where the shower was too.)

See above for toilet and they probably have modern fixtures. There is a
hand-held shower head in the furo area. As for what kind of toilet, this
has never been shown in either manga or anime, so you can make this up
however you want it. Though is probably has a western sit down type since
all the ones where you squat are for females urinating. (This is what I
seen of them.)

Oh yeah, a couple questions not concerning the bathroom.

In what order are the rooms that the Tendo daughters stay in, and are they all
next each other?

The stairs to the second floor are right next to the front door at the
top is a T shaped corridor. To the left of vertical of 'T' are the
sliding panels which lead into the room Ranma and Genma share. This
room is the _ONLY_ room which overlooks the garden and pond.

At horizontal of the 'T' are the rooms of the three Tendo daughters. They
have Kasumi and Akane on the ends and Nabiki in the middle. Kasumi's room
the one nearest to the Ranma's. At end of the corridor next to Akane's
room is the balcony where clothes are occasionally dried is the balcony
Akane wrecked in the 'Nabiki fiancee' arc currently published by Viz.
Also, the girls' rooms are only ones I know of which have air-conditioning.

BTW, the window directly opposite the front door leads into Happosai's
room.

I know that there is a duck on Akane's door and a nameplate for Nabiki, but is
there one on Kasumi's?

There is an engraved (with simple English letters) wooded nameplate on
Kasumi's door. In Vol 33 there are some dried flowers stuck on the
nameplate on the corner above the 'K' of Kasumi's name.

Is Ranma left or right handed? I have a couple translated scans from the manga,
and considering that the person who does the scans modifies the picture so that
it can be read from left to right, it confuses the hell out of me.

Since the Viz translations are flipped hold it up to a mirror for the
original look of the images and if Ranma is right-handed in the mirror
then he is right-handed.
