Hi. Me again. Late at night, strange notions enter my head. One just
came in.
In the Ranma canon, Akane is an angry person with a bad temper. This is
(in the otaku community) attributed to the childhood trauma of losing
her mother - the same trauma that (supposedly) made Nabiki a greedy
manipulative bitch and Kasumi into the Ultimate Housewife, as well as
turning Soun into a fountain of tears.
But there are many different reactions to such trauma. Suppose that the
Tendo's - or just one Tendo - had reacted differently?
Example: suppose Akane, instead of being angry, became shy and
withdrawn?
Or Kasumi, instead of becoming an idealized version of her mother, went
the opposite way and became a rebel and delinquent?
Nabiki, instead of becoming the Ice Queen and cold-blooded mercenary,
could have reacted by trying to be everyone's friend, becoming the
perfect social butterfly, the Most Popular Girl in School and Head
Cheerleader and Prom Queen.
Any one of these - or all of them - are possible.
Just a thought.
