Not true. Second Impact occurs in September 13, 2000 AD. Shinji is born
June 6, 2001. He was thus concieved in October 2000, unless Yui had a
very short or a long pregnancy. This means Shinji is concieved after
Second Impact, and born months after it. Not even in the same year.
Now, Gendo and Yui get married in 1999, and the last scene is set nine
months later, which would put it in 2000. Gendo makes references to
having just gotten back from Antarctica, and there are references to this
being the cold part of the year (such as there being snow outside), which
places the final scene after Second Impact, and means that the sex they're
about to have is probably intended to be what causes the conception of
Shinji.
And that, in fact, Gendo has been involved with the operation in
Antarctica, which causes 3 billion people to die when it goes wrong and
causes Second Impact.
Whether one believes this undercuts the effectiveness of Lara's story or
not, Chris was not simply having a hissy fit based on inaccurate
information. How much actual responsibility Gendo has at this point for
anything that SEELE does is debatable, and whether SEELE meant to cause
Second Impact or understood how much devastation it would cause is
debatable as well.
It all depends on how much Gendo really knows at this point; I have the
impression that Lara doesn't see him as a major player at this point, and
doesn't see Second Impact as being blamable on him, unlike Chris. Within
the context of Pages, he's clearly still just a low level schmuck boy.
But if one does see Gendo as having a more important role in the causing
of Second Impact, then the end of Pages comes off as if someone closed a
story with Hitler and Eva Braun snuggling after a trip to Auschwitz. I
don't believe that was Lara's intention; the Gendo she's depicted has yet
to become important to SEELE/Gehirn, but Chris saw it differently.
But if you chose to criticize Chris' response, I'd suggest knowing what
you're talking about when you do so.

conceived yet so do us all a favor next time you go to make a snide remark
is make sure you have your facts right because all it does is make you look
like a ignorant fool who hardly knows the series and I'm not saying you are
I'm just saying it makes you look like one
Perhaps you should get your facts right before you choose to attack
someone else for getting their facts wrong, Mr. Makibi.
You also might want to learn to not write run-on sentences too.
