SCENE: 2 points of view.

help as quickly as he could, but it was too late. Just as he was jumping in
to save her, she let out her last breath, modifying the pool into
Springofdrowned Female Scientist.

Last scene in book is POV2: Ranma was just finishing setting up her
equipment. If her calculations based on the time she had been 'cursed,' if
you could call it that, were correct [and her calculations always were,] her
past self would be coming along shortly. She was going to record data from
both the cursing of a pool and a person receiving a curse. Then, she tripped
and fell in. She tried to hold her breath as long as she could, but she
couldn't forever. As her vision blurred, she saw a young version of
him/herself trying to jump in to save her, but even now it was too late. She
understood everything now. The cryptic quote that this "Brett" person had
made about 'fulfillment of destiny;' the Email from someone named "Washu"
about 90% of timetravel leading to a closed timelike curve, EVERYTHING. Then
it all went black.
Explanation compound formed: Ranma as a scientist would look purely
objectively at the pros and cons of staying in girl-form. She would realize
that her IQ was higher, she understood more, was faster, and it didn't even
seem to interfere with her martial arts.
Footnote: Ryouga falls into Luangnichuan shortly after Ranma LEAVES
Jusenkyo.
