Love Lost 3
Kenji walked out of the room for a while only to
come back in with the tools that he had left for.
In his hands he carried a needle, with some sort of
fluid in it, and a knife. <Deal with this you idiot.
I really don't understand why you're so gullible, but
it was your choice.> Kenji set his things on the chest
next to the bed and sat next to Usagi who was sleeping
peacefully.
In her sleep, Usagi dreamt of the past, before she
and Mamoru had married. The day he proposed to her.
Usagi and Mamoru were walking in the park. Usagi was
happy. Tonight they were going out to dinner. They hadn't
done it in a while, and Usagi was estatic. "Oh Mamo-chan,
I love you so much," Usagi looked in Mamoru's eyes with love.
Mamoru responded "I love you too Usako." Mamoru then bent
down and kissed Usagi deeply. After he pulled away a blush
was visable on Usagi's features.
"Oh Mamo-chan," Usagi said staring at the lake, "Can we go
for a boat ride?"
"Sure Odango Atama," Mamoru and Usagi then walked over to the
docks and rented a boat. They both stepped into the boat and
rowed aimlessly around for a few hours reveling in the other's
company. <We were so happy back then. What happened to us?>
Usagi thought.
That night, as Usagi remembered was very romantic. Mamoru
had reserved a table at the most expensive restaurant in
town, then bought roses. Mamoru had been planning this night
for months, and had bought the ring a long time ago. When Usagi
arrived there that night she was unaware of the question Mamoru
was going to spring on her, and she was amazed at the things he
did for her. She knew she would do anything for him.
Mamoru picked Usagi up that night, and after the main
dish, Mamoru sprung the question on her.
Usagi finished off the steak and the waiter came and took
both her and Mamoru's plates away. Usagi looked over the
table at Mamoru, and said "Thank you so much for this
dinner. I love you so much for it all." Usagi said lovingly.
Mamoru got up from his seat, and kneeled next to Usagi confusing
her. "Usako, I love you too, and I think we're both ready for
this. Usagi will you marry me?" Mamoru said pulling out the ring.
Usagi gasped when she saw the diamond and looked back up in
Mamoru's face disbelievingly. "For real Mamo-chan?"
"Yes for real. Usako I loved you the first day I saw you. I
want to spend the rest of my life with you." Mamoru replied
whole-heartedly.
"Yes! Of course I'll marry you Mamoru!" Usagi said falling
into Mamoru's arms. When Usagi finally pulled away, Mamoru
slid the ring on Usagi's ring finger.
<That night was so magical. Why couldn't you keep your promise?>
Usagi thought sadly.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Outside of Usagi's subconcious, Kenji was brutally beating
Usagi hoping to murder her. He had taken her down to his
cellar, where he had arm and leg locks. He started with his
tranquilizer, to make sure she wouldn't wake up in the
middle and start screaming or struggling. Then he taped her
mouth shut with duct tape. After that he continued with the
knife.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Mamoru drove home from the hospital. Tonight there
wasn't much to keep him there. He thought about
seeing Usagi today with another man, but chided
his-self for even caring. <That's why you got the divorce
ne?> Mamoru told himself. But still the image flashed in
his mind the whole way home. And though Mamoru never
admitted it to himself, he was jealous. It hurt to see
the one he truely loved with another man.
Finally when Mamoru arrived at his house, he saw a man
jumping in a car, and driving away, from in front of his
house. Mamoru was curious about who the man was, and what
he wanted, but dismissed the thought when he walked up
to his doorstep, and saw a figure slumped in front of the door.
Confused, Mamoru tried to talk to the person. "Excuse me,
can I help you?" After receiving no answer, Mamoru said,
"Please answer me." Finally Mamoru bent down to see who it
was that was there. Rolling the person over, Mamoru gasped
at what he saw. It was an unconsious woman; her hands were
tied up and her mouth was covered over with duct tape. The
woman had obviously been stabbed repeatedly in her arms and
legs, her head was bleeding from being hit hard, her chest
was also bloody, a couple of her ribs were crushed, she had
trouble breathing, and she had a note on her stomach, tied on
with some rope. The note was red with blood, and read:
She's close to dead, if not dead already. You'll never
catch me, and I hope you enjoyed your time with her. I
certainly did. She's keeping a secret from you though.
Since she can't tell you I will. She's most likely pregnant,
with your child no less. You made a real mistake giving her up,
but we can't change the past, now can we?
The note ended there with more blood spattered on the bottom.
Mamoru gently picked Usagi up in his arms, and walked into his
home. Isabelle walked up to Mamoru and recognized the body in
Mamoru's arms. "Miss Usagi! What happened to her?" Isabelle was
shocked to see Usagi in that condition.
"I don't know. I found her on the doorstep. Isabelle,
I need you to call 911, she needs medical attention."
Mamoru laid Usagi down on the floor and untied the ropes
around her. He also pulled the duct tape off her mouth.
Isabelle rushed off for the phone. <Usagi, who did this to you?>
Mamoru was bothered greatly by this sight and almost couldn't
bear to look at her. What bothered Mamoru even more was the end
of the note. 'She's most likely pregnant, with your child no
less.' Mamoru couldn't believe this. <Why didn't you tell me?>
Mamoru wondered.
At that point Isabelle walked in with the note Usagi dropped by
earlier. Remembering her promise to Usagi Isabelle said, "Excuse
me sir, but this was left here earlier." Isabelle handed the
note to Mamoru.
Mamoru took the note and unfolded it. Reading it quickly, Mamoru
cursed silently. <Damnit! Why'd this have to happen to me?> Mamoru
picked up the note that was on Usagi and read it more carefully.
When he looked at the blood at the bottom, he noticed the blood
formed letters. Reading the letters, Mamoru came out with Kenji T.
The ambulance arrived with Usagi and Mamoru who rode along to the
hospital pondering the two notes he had received.
"Dr. Chiba!" one nurse said with surprise. "What are you doing back
here?"
"I'm here with my ex-wife, who apparently was beaten." Mamoru said
walking along the stretcher. Usagi went into surgery that night to
repair her skull which was fractured, and she also had to be put on a
respirator.
THE NEXT DAY IN TOKYO:
Makoto was walking down the street, going to Usagi's apartment.
It was a bright sunny day, and she along with the other scouts
had no idea where Usagi was. Last night she had gotten a phone
call from Ami. It went like this:
"Hello?" Makoto answered.
"Hey, Makoto, it's Ami." Ami responded.
"Oh, hi Ami." Makoto rested the phone on her shoulder, pressing
it to her ear because she was cooking.
"Do you know where Usagi is?" Ami asked, sounding worried.
"No, why?" Makoto responded.
"Because, I've called her multiple times in the past two days
and she hasn't answered. I've checked with the other scouts
too. They don't have any idea either." Ami said.
"Oh. I hope something's not wrong. Why are you trying to get
a hold of her?" Makoto said, worried.
"I was just going to tell her that she's pregnant."
"She is! How great!" Makoto gloated.
"Well, not entirely, you have to think about her situation too."
Ami commented.
"That's right. Well, I'll go over there tommorrow. She gave me
a spare key, in case she needed it. I feel like I'd be invading
her privacy, but if we really need to, we can." Makoto stated.
"Okay. Well give me a call tommorrow." Ami said.
"Alright. Bye." Makoto hung up the phone.
"Bye." Ami too hung up the phone.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Makoto went up to Usagi's door and knocked, waiting for
a response. After a few moments when no response came,
Makoto knocked again. "Usagi! Are you in there?" Makoto said.
After knocking a few more times, and getting no response, Makoto
pulled out the key and looked at it. <Not yet.> she thought.
Makoto went back home, and called Ami. "Hey Ami, it's Makoto."
"Hey was she home?" Ami asked quickly.
"Nope. I didn't use her key though, 'cause she could just be out
right now." Makoto responded logically.
"Yeah. Well how about we call a scout meeting? It'd be good to see
all you guys right now, and we could talk about what to do."
"Sounds good to me. I'll call Minako, you want to call Rei?" replied
Makoto.
"Sure. Let's meet at Rei's temple too." Ami suggested.
"Alright. Is now good?" Makoto recommended.
"Yeah, see you in a bit." Ami and Makoto hung up.
AT THE TEMPLE:
Ami and Makoto arrived at the temple and met Rei in the front.
"Hi guys! It's good to see you all again." Rei commented.
Minako then showed up, running up the steps to the temple.
Makoto laughed when she saw Minako. "What's so funny?" Minako
queried.
"Oh you just reminded me of Usagi. She always was late."
Makoto commented.
"Yeah, don't you miss our scout meetings?" Ami stated.
"Yeah. Getting down to business, I've been feeling some bad
vibes, except..." Rei trailed off.
"Except what?" Minako inquired.
"Well, they're not the same as the bad vibes I used to feel
when a new enemy showed up. I think I'm feeling that Usagi's in
danger, or in trouble, or something." Rei stated. "I have an
idea. How about we all sit in front of the fire. I think if we
gather our need to know where Usagi is, I might get something."
Rei advised.
The girls agreed, and sat in front of the fire thinking of
Usagi. Then, Rei's head flew back, her head filled with a
vision. Rei saw Usagi seemingly asleep, with stab wounds, her
body a mess, then Rei saw Usagi in a hospital room, Mamoru at
the door. Rei opened her eyes, and said to the others, "I t
hink she's in Osaka. Minako, could you drive us there?" Rei
asked.
"Sure." Minako responded. All the girls got up and left the
temple, after telling their husbands where they were going.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Mamoru stood in the door of Usagi's room. She wasn't doing
too badly for her condition, but she could've been doing a lot
better. <Damnit Usagi! Why didn't you tell me?> Mamoru was
frustrated. He had a test done on Usagi, to see if she was pregnant,
and the test was positive. It bothered Mamoru to no end, that she
was beaten so badly, but it bothered him worse to know she was
pregnant with his child. He honestly hadn't meant to get her pregnant,
but he didn't know about it anyway.
Mamoru stood there for awhile longer, then he left to
continue his other work. The whole day, his mind wasn't
entirely on his work. On his break, one of the nurses
came up to him and said, "Why are you worrying about her?
I thought you divorced her? Why don't you just give in to
someone else and forget about her? Like me for instance?
I'm not going out with anyone..." The nurse continued, but
Mamoru wasn't listening.
"Hey, if I wanted to, don't you think I would've? You obviously
know nothing about me. Which is why I don't see anything in you.
Now if you'll just excuse me, I've got work to do. I suggest
you do the same." Mamoru pushed the nurse aside and left the room.
He went immediately to Usagi's room and sat down next to her
bed with a bottle of water.
Ever since the word had been out that he was divorced, many of
the nurses had been coming on to him, and he didn't like it one
bit. Mamoru drank the water and stared over at Usagi whose head
and chest were wrapped, and parts of her arms and legs were bandaged
up. Usagi had a small amount of brain damage and the doctors said
she was lucky she got there when she did. The other doctors weren't
sure if her child would survive. <The other doctors weren't>,
Mamoru thought bitterly, <but she has to.>
Mamoru remembered seeing Usagi coming out of surgery. While she
looked better than she did going in, it was still obvious that she
had been hurt badly. They had had a little problem in the surgery
room though. The sedadives that they had given her weren't supposed
to be used with the tranquilizer Kenji had given her, so in the
middle of the surgery, Usagi started to convulse. Luckily, they had
been able to help her quick enough that she didn't injure herself
further.
But something still plauged Mamoru. Who was this 'Kenji T.' and why
Usagi? Mamoru searched his memory for anyone he knew that might want
to get back at him for something. As his memories flew past him,
Mamoru stopped when he was 16 years old. He was working, trying to
get himself away from his life at the orphanage. He had a good job
and life was going pretty good for him. Mamoru remembered the one person
that had made him cautious of others. His name was Kenji Terada.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
"Excuse me? Could I get two tickets for ..." Kenji stopped,
trying to figure out which movie to see. He finally decided,
at the same time his 'girlfriend' came up. Mamoru did his job and
gave Kenji the tickets.
That night was the same as any other. How he wished his life was
different.
<It was him, but what did I do to him?> Mamoru asked himself. The
memory continued.
Kenji had started to come in regularly, each week bringing a new
girl. Mamoru had gotten to know Kenji pretty well. After knowing
him for awhile, Kenji told him why he always had a new girl. Mamoru
remembered the chill that went down his spine that night. The next
week Kenji came in, Mamoru caught the girl he was with, telling her
that she shouldn't be with Kenji. After some pleading from Mamoru,
the girl left, leaving Kenji upset.
Mamoru was lucky that week. Kenji blew it off. But Mamoru did the same
the next week, angering Kenji further. The next weeks Kenji didn't come
back, and Mamoru never heard from Kenji again.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
<So he was mad that I drove all his girls away.> Mamoru said coming
back from the memory. <This must be what he did to all those other
girls.> Mamoru shook his head. <This really was all my fault,> Mamoru
thought guiltily.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Minako, Makoto, Rei, and Ami drove along the highway to Osaka. They
finally made it there after 4 hours of driving. During the ride, Rei
had explained what she saw and where she thought Usagi might be. All
of the girls were worried about Usagi and what might have happened to
her. They finally arrived in Osaka, and Minako headed for the
hospital.
Once they had arrived at the hospital all of the girls ran out
of the car, to rush inside and find out if Usagi was there. They
asked the woman at the front desk, who wouldn't give them information
as to where Usagi was because they weren't family. Makoto threatened
the woman, who caved easily, and the girls were on their way to Usagi's
room.
"I wonder what happened to her?" Rei expressed her concern for Usagi.
"I don't know, but I hope it's not too serious." Minako said.
"Here's her room," Ami said, and gasped when she looked in.
"What's wrong?" Makoto asked before she reached the room, then gasped
when she looked in.
The other girls had the same reaction, and Mamoru popped his head up
off of Usagi's bed. Mamoru had put his head down to rest for awhile,
because he had not gotten any sleep the night before.
Ami was the first to speak. "How is she?"
"Okay, for her condition." Mamoru responded professionally. He knew
he would have to face the girls sometime, and knew they would yell
at him for divorcing Usagi.
"What happened to her?" Ami responded in the same tone.
"I found her on my doorstep, unconscious, and she had been beaten up
badly. She had been stabbed multiple times in her arms, legs, and her
chest. She had received blows to her head and chest, fracturing her
skull and breaking 2 of her ribs." Mamoru looked back at Usagi.
"Why'd you do it Mamoru?" Rei asked softly.
"Do what? I didn't beat her." Mamoru said defensively.
"Divorce her." Rei replied.
"Because. There was no point in the marriage anymore, although
I wish she would've told me she was pregnant." Mamoru responded.
"You know?" Ami said.
"Yeah." Mamoru stated.
"Is she going to be okay? What about the baby?" Minako said,
about to cry.
"She should be okay. The brain damage she received wasn't intense,
but the other doctors are skeptical about the survival of the baby."
"And you? What do you think are the baby's chances of survival?"
Makoto queried.
"I..." Mamoru paused. "I don't know," he finally said.
Rei walked over to Usagi's side and noticed something no one else
had seemed to notice. "When did her hair start to turn silver?" Rei
asked.
"What?" Mamoru said.
"Her hair, it's becoming silver. A sign of her maturity." Rei repeated.
"I don't know. I'd never noticed it before now." Mamoru responded.
"Listen, I've got to get back to work. Visting hours are over at 6."
Mamoru stated coldly and left.
As Mamoru left the room, the question Rei asked flashed through his
head again. <Why'd you divorce her?> his mind asked him. <Because.
We weren't happy, and it wasn't working.> Mamoru told himself. <But
look what happened to her. It's all your fault!> His mind turned against
him.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
"What do think's going to happen now that she's like this?"
Makoto asked the others.
"I don't know. The timeline might be messed up though." Rei
responded.
"Ami, how soon will Usagi need to be queen?" Makoto questioned.
"I'm not sure. I've been so busy, and I haven't talked to Usagi
much lately, that I don't know." Ami seemed sullen that she didn't
know something.
"Can't you use your computer?" Rei asked.
"Maybe. I haven't used it in so long though, that it might take
me awhile." Ami replied.
"Huh?" A different voice asked out of nowhere.
"Who is that?" the four girls seemed to ask at once, no one looking
at Usagi.
"Where am I? *Who* am I?" the voice asked.
"Usagi!?" Rei said in disbelief. "Do you honestly not know who you
are?" Rei asked quickly.
"No I don't. Now who are you, where am I, and who am I?" Usagi asked.
"You're Tsukino Usagi. Don't you remember?" Ami questioned.
"I said no. Ow, my head hurts. Actually, my whole body hurts!" Usagi
cried.
"We're your friends, Makoto, Ami, Minako, and Rei." Makoto responded
pointing to each of the girls in turn. "You're in a hospital because
you were beaten, and you're Tsukino Usagi." Makoto explained.
"Oh. Why was I beaten?" Usagi said, digesting the information.
"We don't know. Ami, is this normal?" Rei asked the medical expert.
"Probably. I don't really know what all the diagnoses was though, so
I can't really say." Ami stated.
"Whatever. I think I'll go back to sleep." Usagi replied to no one in
particular.
"Now that sounds like the Usagi I know." Minako responded. "Do you
think we should tell Mamoru?"
"I don't think he cares." Makoto commented, showing her dislike for
Mamoru.
"He does too. He just didn't know what he was giving up when he left
Usagi." Rei stood up for Mamoru.
"Yeah, I agree with Rei. I know he still cares about her. He just doesn't
realize it." Ami took Rei's side.
Later that afternoon, Mamoru came back into the room while Usagi was
awake. The girls had told Usagi a little bit about her life, but decided
to leave a lot out at the time. Her relationship with Mamoru and her
life as Sailor Moon were some of the things they left out.
Mamoru looked amazed watching the conversation taking place. Then Usagi
turned her head to the door, and asked, "Who's that?"
Mamoru took offense to this. <Why would she forget me? Is she doing
this to punish me?> Mamoru immediately blamed himself.
Ami spoke up first. "That's one of the doctors here. His name is
Dr. Chiba." Ami felt strange introducing Usagi to her ex-husband.
"Hey Mamoru. Something you should know. Usagi has amnesia. I don't
know if it's just temporary, but my guess is it's not. She did take
those blows to the head, so..." Ami left the sentence there.
"We've been filling Usagi in on her life." Rei told Mamoru.
"What all have you told her?" Mamoru asked, hoping they hadn't told
her about their relationship.
"I need to talk to you about that." Rei walked over to the door and
left the room with Mamoru, while the others continued talking to
Usagi. "Mamoru," Rei said once out of Usagi's earshot. "we haven't
told Usagi about a lot of things. We haven't told her about her
relationship with you, or her life as Sailor Moon. We told her about
her normal life, hoping this might be temporary. But we all thought
that you might be able to help her a little bit. You've had amnesia,
so you know what it feels like, but only if you want to." Rei leaned
casually against the wall.
"I don't know. It's not the same though. She has all you guys to help
her out. I had no one, and I was sent to an orphanage. It's not the same."
Mamoru stated, remembering his painful past.
"I know it's not the same, but you're the only one who would understand."
Rei told Mamoru.
"Well, maybe. I'll think about it. But for the time being, please
don't tell her about our relationship. It's a thing of the past,
and we shouldn't be concerned with it." Mamoru said quietly, reminding
himself of the time when he left Usagi because of his dreams.
"Okay," Rei agreed, and went back inside the room, leaving Mamoru
all alone in the hallway.
