As the Subject say's, this is just a Random idea thtat just flowed out on
the Keyboard one evening. I haven't profed it or anything, but I figured
I send it out just for the heck of it and see if it actually sticks. The
big problem with me continuing this is I don't have a clear bead on the
Xellos character. I've seen about half of Next subbed and raw, about 9
episode of Try raw and subbed, and I have some odd spoilers and such. But
I still don't have clear idea on Xellos. Oh well, when I buy the NExt
Volume 2 subbed Box set I should be clearer. Anyway Enjoy my insanity....
Ahh, this idea owes a tip of the hat to a Sailor Moon fic posted here a
year or two ago. I forget the title of the fic, but it does feature a
similar idea without the Slayers bit. If you've written that fic, than
many thanks...

Yet another Naru power up fic!!!
Or How I learned to stop worrying and like Overpowered Magic Spells.
****
It was a cold, crisp day in Juuban as the December Sun shined down on the
city. The local kids rushed off towards the playground to enjoy the day
off playing, while packs of shooper prowled the shopping malls and streets
hunting for deals on Christmas gifts. And somewhere in the middle of this
ballet of human chaos stood Naru Osaka, brooding in front of a small local
shop.
Her thoughts where neither on shoppping, since she had already bought
gifts for her family and friends. Nor where her thoughts on playing, since
she had more important things to think about. Mainly yet another monster
attack she had to endure, this one happening late last night at the movie
theater when she was out with Umino. Granted the documentry on ants and
bgs wasn't too thrilling, but it was a million times more fun than getting
attacked by a female ant intant on finding some weird magic item.
It seemed that monsters where attracted to Naru for whatever reason, she
had experienced numerous attacks ever since Sailor Moon came on the scene.
Her dreams seemed to be troubled by these attacks as well, as she
sometimes had the same dream over and over again. The dream of seeing her
lover killed by a three monsters, and him fading away as Naru held him in
her arms.
Last night was more of the same, the ant monster had made a bee-line
towards her the mintue it appeared. It grabbed her by one of it's hands
and tried to suck the Kami-knows what out of her. Umino tried his best to
help, but in the end it was futile as always. In the end Sailor Moon had
to come and save her as usual, and Naru was left wondering if she would
ever know a life of peace and quiet.
Which was why she was standing in front of this small shop right now. It's
quiant exterior suggesting and early 1900's construction, the wood
finishing adding character to the modern stainless neigbors that surronded
it. A small sign decorated the front with the Kana for Magic painted in
red. A money cat sat guarding the entrance, begging for customers to come
and enter. Naru wasn't sure why, but she felt she was almost being pulled
in by the cat. Not that she wasn't supertious or anything like that, she
had enough real life monsters to deal with. But deep down inside she felt
like the Kami's themselves were dragging her in.
Then again she also had the strangest feeling that this place wasn't here
a week ago. Not just the business, but the building itself.
"Baka, I can't just sit out here all day," Naru said, encouraging herself
to enter, "I've got to do something to stop these attacks once and for
all". And with that she went throught the front door, the old brass bell
on the front door hearlding her arrival. She paused as she looked around
the store, awestruck by the sites that greeted her. Everywhere she looked
stood an object of at least 100 years old or more. Gleaming jewels where
displayed in a antique cabinet, tomes and scrolls covered in ageless dust
stood unkempt on a bookshelf, and a collection of canes and staffs leaned
on a side wall. No sense of order was suggested by the store at all, yet
that in itself seemed to suggest something greater.
"Sugoi,"she exclaimed as she looked at what she thought was some of the
least expensive merhcanidse. She didn't want to run the risk of anything
too expensive in this store, some of the stuff looked like almost
priceless. But Naru felt the urge to look around, to rummage, to search
for the thing which drew her to this place.
"Hello, may I help you?" Naru heard from behind her, causing her to turn
around in a panic. Standing between her and the door was a man with meidum
length blue hair, the bangs long enough to cover his eye's from view. He
wore a sharp cut business suit, a suit which stood out like a sore thumb
among the ancient artifacts in the store. His face also wore a big smile,
a smile which suggested many things to Naru. The foremost was that he was
a salesman here.
"No, I'm just looking around thank you," Naru replied, looking to leave
the store quickly. She just didn't seem to trust this man, especially
after she watched that Needful things movie last week. After all these
items could posses all sorts of curses.
"Are you sure, people normally don't come in here just to browse around.
They come in here looking for specfics things I can supply." the man
laughed as he blocked Naru's exit
"Well I'm just browsing, thank you very much," Naru exclaimed as she
pushed through the salesman.
"Really, are you sure you aren't looking for a way to fight back against
those monsters that have been attacking you?"
Naru paused at that, "How did you know about that?"
"That's a secret," he laughed as he pushed by Naru and headed to the jewel
case, "But I may have something to help you if you let me."
Naru just nodded in reply, her face a mix of awe and query. Could this man
really have a way for her to fight back, like he said? After all he did
know about her problem, but then he could of read about that in the paper.
Monsters attacks were common these day's in Juuban and many young girls
could be out looking for a way to protect themselves. And this business
man could be making money hand over fist by selling his protection system.
"No, this isn't a fraud Naru-chan," the man answered the unspoken question
in his always cheerfull voice, "I'm ashamed you'd think that way of me
Naru-chan. Haven't I always been trustworthy in our relationship?"
"We've just me, we don't have a relationship." Naru answered in a deadpan
voice.
"Oh, dear me I guess your right," The man chuckled as he stood up from the
case, "Anyway, here is the item your looking for!!" In his right hand was
a small red gem hung on a gold chain, the middle of the gem inscribed with
some weird foreign script.
Naru held out her hand and took the gem from him instinctvily, looking it
over closely. The red gem almost seemed alived, as swirls seemed to form
and spread out from the center. She could almost feel heat being emmited
from the gem as placed the chain around her neck, allowing the gem to
drape over her blouse. "What does the text say?"
"That's a secret," the man answered as Naru devloped a rather large
sweatdrop, "The person that sold it to me wouldn't tell me Naru-chan!!!"
"Then how do you use it?"
"How would I know, I just run this store. Do you think I'm some powerfull
magican?"
The mans laughs caused Naru's sweatdrop to grow even larger. "Mou, i'm not
letting you con me with this. I'm out of here!!!" She took the gem off and
tried to hand it back. The man however wouldn't take it. "I'm not buying
it, and that's that!!!"
"Perhaps you should wait awhile and test it out. I think you may have a
chance to do that in a second," The man smiled, as he dodged to the right
avoiding the door which was heading towards his head. A loud crash came as
his door impacted with the display case, sending broken glass and amulets
everywhere. Naru quickly turned to the now broken doorway and saw two
girls in a tight Santa Clause and Reindeer outfit. At least they
looked like girls, though Naru knew that they were probably the obligatory
monsters of the week. "My, I think we have some more customers. How may I
help you today?"
"XANTA!!!" The youma in the Santa outfit cried as it sent out a
stream of wrapping paper towards Naru and the clerk. Naru tried to move
out of the way, but was caught by the paper and was quickly wrapped up to
her neck with a colourfull X-mas pattern, toped off with a red ribbion
around her face. The clerk was luckier, as he was able to avoid the paper
and end up next to the monster, smile on his face.
"Now you have to be carefully, some of the merchandise here is very
fragile."
"XANTA!!' The monster cried again, as it threw another stream of paper at
the man. He was able to dodge all of the colourfull paper, and was able to
return back to Naru's side.
"My, some customers can be so hard to deal with!" He smiled as he stood
next to Naru, who was trying to yell throught the tangle or ribbions
surronding her mouth. "Oh, you want me to help you. Well I suppose I can
say one word. And that's...Fireball."
If Naru could of facefaulted in the mess of gift paper and ribbion, she
would of. Instead she justscreamed through the ribbion, a mumbled stream
of words which was inuadbile to the average ear. A tirade which happened
to include one word in particular, and that word was....
"Ball!!" Naru screamed, noticing that the wrapping paper surronding her
was now on fire. She quickly brushed the burning remains off, and fell to
the grown to put out the small fire that was on her blouse. The monsters
looked on in confusion as she rolled around, before she jumped up and
whacked the man beside her. "Why didn't you tell me it did that!!!"
"Well, I've never seen that amulet used before," the man replied with a
smile, "It's so nice to see to that it does though. It means you'll be
picking it up right?"
Naru had to fight the urge to wring the mans neck right then and there.
Instead she turned to face the monsters with a smile on her face. She
pointed the gem towards them, her free hand covering her eye's.
"FIREBALL!!!" She yelled, the red gem flaring to life as she reached the
end of her words. The swirling wips on energy grew inside the gem, until
the flew out towards the monsters. the recoil sending Naru back a few
meters.
The monsters looked on in shock at the spell heading towards them, until
the youma in the reigndeer outfit stood in front of the other monsters.
It's nose flashed a bright red, as it sent out a stream of flames towards
the incoming fireball. The two impacted, causing a violent explosion which
destroyed half the store. As the smoke cleared, the youma move forward,
each having a murderous glint in there eye's.
"Epp, what do I do know?" Naru, asked as she fired off enough fireball,
which was once again nullfied by the reigndeers countermeasure. "XANTA!!!"
the youma yelled, as it extended it's arms towards Naru's neck, an evil
smile on it's face. It was then that Naru saw the kana on a gem beside her
on the floor, one of the many littered across the ruins of the store. She
sighed, it was a longshot but she had to try it.
"DIL.."
Naru coughed as the two monsters grabbed a hold of her neck, both
tightning around it in an attemp to pop her head off. Naru gasped, trying
to finish her sentance off. "Bran..do.." she said in as managed to breathe
some air in. Suddenly the floor shook around her, the Earth seeming to
bubblealmost as if it was ready to boil over.
And then in an instant, the ground flew up with magical energy, crashing
into the youma. The two let go of Naru, allowing her to run from the
stream of rock and magic. And than as quickly as it happened, it stopped
as the rock flew back to the Earth. And mixed in it was the dust of two
former monsters.
Naru fell to the floor, exhausted from the ordeal. She had managed to
fight back with the gem, she was able to beat two youma by herself.
Okay, the gem did all of the work. But she didn't have to wait for the
Sailor Senshi to come and save her. She could protect herself from now on.
"Mou, what am I gonna do witht his place. It's a complete and utter mess,"
The man commented as he looked over the remains of his store, the ever
present smile still on his face.
"I'm sorry," Naru managed as she was able to sit up, some of her strength
returning to her. "If I wasn't so careless with this.."
"Careless is right, Do you have any idea how much I lost because of this
little fight?"
"How much?"
"That's a secret," The man laughed as he helped Naru up, "Still somebody
should pay for this mess, or at least help clean it up."
Naru's face darkened, she knew full well who the man had in mind. "Oh no,
I didn't make this mess the Youma did!!!"
"Yes but there dust right now so they can't help me rebuild. Besides..."
"Besides?"
"Besides, if you work for me you'll be able to pay of the price of that
gem. It's not free you know!!"
Naru had to admit, he had a point there. Since her mother ran a jewlery
store she had a rough idea to what price gems would fetch, and just from
the look of it the gem looked like it would cost a small fortune. A
fortune Naru didn't have.
But she could give the gem back, and leave this place once and for all.
She wouldn't have to put up with this wacky man or any of the other weird
things that would probably happen here. On the flip side, she'd be pretty
much helpless when a monster attacked her again.
"Okay, I guess your right. So what do you want me to do?"
"I want you to go home, and rest," The man said, "And then come back
next Friday after school so we can get to work on cleaning up."
"Yes sir," Naru replied in a drab voice, as she headed to the exit.
"And one more thing,"
"Yes,"
"Don't call me sir, Call me Xelloss."
"Yes Xelloss-san," Naru replied as she left thorugh the doorway remains.
Xelloss waited a few minutes after Naru left before he started to pick
some of the gem remains up. The smile was still on his face, though his
eyes were now visable and possed almost a sinster glint. "My, My I didn't
expect her to have that much power. She might be as intresting as the
Inverse girl!!"
And with a flick of his hands, the store was back in it's orginal
pre-fight form. He brought the money cat in, and he flipped the open side
over to the closed side. He had lots of preparation to do for Friday if
his plans where to go smoothly, and he had to make sure that everything
would be in plan. After all he had a lot invested in the Osaka girl.
A lot indeed.
