Although this does have the making of spam I will say this.

If you are writng a fic which deals with scholastics
(Note: My input here then is simply advice and perception on *WRITING* a
fic as opposed to "Boy Ranma's dumb")

Then, you would have to take into account time spent in school to measure
*scholastic* merit rather than the kind of animal cunning Happi has :)

 1) Royuga: We know that he and Ranma went to middle school together.
This was probably for some time and although he now wanders he does have
a *basic* junior high education. Also many wood-craft skills etc.
He probably could *tell* someone else how *not* to get lost but cannot
actually incorperate this into his own mental mapping.
In a way he is learning disabled.

 2) Ranma, as noted in (1) he does have an educated backround but we also
know that he has been on countles *training* trips of indeterminate
length. In all of this he would probably have to have had some sort of
equivilancy to actually be n the same grade as Akane.
I don't see correspondence courses for him however...
More like reading by the camp-fire.
This is also why he is er...somewhat lacking in *social* graces. He has
not been around people. He has been around Genma. If you are around
someone like that all of the time you might just forget a few things about
politleness.
 - probably has good study skills from practicing and actually *thinking*
about martial arts but as to whether he *applies* them to sholastics is
doubtful.

 3) Akane... well it seems from the evidence below she is a fairly
well-rounded student. The exceptions being home ech and swimming. I don't
know how she would be in chemistry... as it's a lot like cooking but with
more things to blow up.

 4) Nabiki...an educational sponge. she seems to be aware of her
surroundings as well as at least the *basics* of most things.
I honestly don't remember seeing her cooking so again home ecc and or
chemistry are a mystery. Although not as demostrative in her abilities she
*does* do a lot of excercise. I wouldsn't be surprised to that she was
constantly learning at least a little of all of the martial arts around
her.

"A girl's gotta be prepared you know. And, it might be *worth*
something."

 5) Kuno (of the Blue Thunder variety.) Seems ok. I would put him at the
top of the class in both History and
Literature (Japanese).
Has no financial head. probably lacking in some math skills.

 5) Kuno (of the Black Rose variety) Gold stars for Bilology and Organic
Chemistry. - oh way phys-ed and cooking as well.

 6) Shampoo. Well what DO Amazons learn in school?
Probably a lot of Mao-ist teaching mixed up with distorted feminism.
After the *Cultural Revoulution* I'm sure she has little forma *STATE*
edcation.
What Amazon's teach their kin behind closed doors we can only guess at.

 7) Moose. (see 6.) Are "male amazons" taught anything?
Are they second class citizens in this society or are they the educated
ones as they do "Men's work" which involves woring in the fields,
childcare and household mangement. Perhaps they are the ones who hold the
actual power in the villages as they are probably taught reading and math
to deal with the "outside world"

 8) Ukyou. Seems to have a fairly good education ballenced with her
martial and cooking skills.
Probably take advanced business and accounting courses plying Nabiki with
free food for tuoring.

Any of thse (well maybe 4 7 and 8) might be interesting to incorperate
into a fic.

John Boydston wrote:

In one of the later mangas, there are hints that Akane is at least the
equivalent of a "B" student (an 86 on a test). Ranma's test score is never
revealed and as far as I know there is no actual evidence as to his grades.

I'm not sure, but didn't Hinako once call Akane her best student?
Seeing how strict Hinako is, that means Akane probably does have very
good grades.

The problem with the cliche, as with all cliches, is that the cliche does
not take into account the irregularities in Ranma's training. Several people
like to portray Ranma as unintelligent (witness Lord Archive's page where he
claims Ranma's IQ is about 95). Unfortunately, there is a lot in the manga
to contradict this. Here are some of them:

Learning the Umi-sen-ken after being shown it, once.
Realizing what Rouge's power source was and helping her achieve full power
without it.
Rapidly coming up with countermoves to techniques he has just had used on
him.

There are others. My contention is that of several other writers. He is not
unintelligent; he is uneducated.

Yeah, and that doesn't refute the 96 IQ theory. To clarify: if Ranma
were to take an IQ test, he would probably score poorly. Why? Because
IQ tests are based largely on education; they assume that the taker of
the test has been to school on a regular basis for their age.
Naturally, it isn't much of a leap of logic to say that Ranma has NOT
had regular schooling for someone his age. I wouldn't be surprised if
you could count the number of years he's been in school on one hand.
This simply shows a weakness of IQ tests. While I wouldn't call Ranma a
genius, his IQ would probably be misleading as a measure of his actual
intelligence.
