My cousin Scott and his wife are both Caucasian. Their youngest daughter
Courtney is decidedly not (she looks a lot like a young Sharon
Bellafonte, but darker). DNA tests indicate that she is her parents'
child (99.97%). 

Why? Recessive genes. From where? Reasonably-accurate family trees going
back eight generations on both sides show no possible source for African
genes. So any such source would be over eight generations in the past
(and the child has four generations of ancestors alive right now, so
there's little chance of it sneaking in recently).

Moral of this bit of family scandal? DNA is trickier than we know. Until
the human genome is totally translated (and possibly after), all the
rules of genetics will be are guideposts and possibilities. 'Natural
laws' are only so until they break.

(By the way, all humans are born with blue eyes; permanent eye color
develops within a couple of weeks of birth.)
