I'm not one usually to discourage a certain type of fic; I do
regard the large volume of Rei-Shinji fics with some distaste (and guilt,
since I inadvertently inspired quite a few), but I'm not saying to stop
it. Something like this, though, I do advocate against. You could get into
far too much hot water with the likes of this.

Errr...just to be honest here...no, you couldn't get into hot water with
this. There are many, many examples in anime, manga, and fanfiction of
relationships occuring between characters with a notable age difference.
Just to name a couple:

Tsukino Usagi and Chiba Mamoru
Shidou Hikaru and Lantis


I think what you *meant* to say here is:

"Something like this, though, I do advocate against. Some people don't like
to read about relationships between an adult and a teenager."

Of course, others *don't* mind it at all, and in a community where the only
time a *real* uproar over a 'relationship' involving an underaged character
involved <shudder> Kanashii no Imi, it's safe to assume that, as long as
it's done *tastefully*, Misato/Shinji is feasible, and would not offend all
readers.
