Chapter 4: Authority
A figure behind a shadow wall, Amiel, entered an abandoned building.
It was just a large empty room with a lot of other room's to the side.
The dust was extremely thick on the floors. The windows were cracked and
shattered, most by teenagers who didn't have anything better to do.
Amiel looked around for a sign that someone was here, waiting for
it. But there was no sign, nothing at all in the room seemed to have
been disturbed in a long time.
It then heard a feminine voice from behind. "So your here at last.
Well are you ready to talk about your job? If you accept it of course."
Amiel turned around to see figure hovering in midair. Whoever she
was, she was an amazing mage. To mask a teleport spell was near
impossible, but this person did it, whoever this was. "So what's the
job?"
The figure, who hid within a purple robe smiled from within the
shadow of her hood. "Your job is to protect a Phillip Greenwood." She
paused for a second to brush the dust of her robe with her exposed
hands. "I will give you the price I said I would over the phone. Ten
thousand in advance, and thirty more when it was done."
Amiel blinked for a second, wondering why this woman would spend so
much money to keep a nobody alive. "What? Why do you want him alive
anyway's?"
The unknown woman shook her head. "Sorry, you don't need to know
that, it's not important. What you do need to know though is that he has
to be alive, not forever. But until the Necrotome is taken back from the
one who owns it at the moment."
Amiel nodded, she didn't like secret's, but for forty grand in all
it was worth it. "And what way do you want me to protect him?"
The figure turned her back to me and chuckled a bit. "Any way you
want. As long as he lives and he's healthy, that's all that matters."
She then tossed Amiel a large wad of bills tied together and then
vanished into smoke.
So Amiel was left, counting the money. Exactly ten grand, excellent.
But now it was time to protect the idiot. But how to go about it. Should
go home to think about it though.........
Then sun was setting and Amiel did the usual thing, it jumped from
building roof to building roof. It didn't tire it out a bit, like it
would any normal person.
As it jumped from building it saw someone on the next building,
standing there, with a shadow wall up. Amiel jumped to that building and
then stood still. It looked over the person in front of it, trying to
figure out who it was.
But it didn't have to look at him any longer to know once he threw
down his shadow wall. It revealed a man wearing a red te-shirt and black
sweat pants. His face was covered by a hooded cloak he wore around his
neck. In his right hand was a sword, carved of fine steel. It's hilt was
silver, encrusted with jewel's.
Amiel looked over the man once and drew it's sword. From behind the
shadow wall emerged it's sword, gleaming in the light of dusk. "Who are
you and what do you want?"
The unknown man took his sword and quickly carved a pentagram shape
in the roof with it, grinning as he did it. "My name is not important,
but I'll tell you what I want. Give me the Necrotome or you'll die."
A smile formed on the shadow's face as it looked at the pentagram
shape on the roof in- between the both of them. "I'm sorry, but I've
already sold it, for a tidy profit. But I could have got more if I
tried."
The man looked down at the shape below him. "I see......" Then in
one quick motion he pulled up his right hand until it was right in front
of his face and moved two of his fingers through the air in a pentagram
shape.
When the form was complete the pentagram glowed red and a tunnel of
light emerged from it. And then the tunnel of bright light headed
towards Amiel. But it had expected that and dodged it quickly, the light
dissipating as soon as it missed it. It then threw three small fireballs
at the man.
The soaring balls of swirling flame flew towards the man at great
speed's. He dodged the same fireball attacks. But instead of dissipating
behind him they hit the ceiling and part of it exploded, sending
shrapnel everywhere.
And so then began a battle on the roofs of the city. Two warriors
bounced from building to building, hurling energy bolts and engaging in
sword combat. This went on for ten minutes, with no interruptions until
they reached a roof over three miles from where they began. That gives
you an idea of how fast they went, and how easy it was to avoid
complaints.
Amiel looked across from one end of the roof to another, where the
unknown figure stood. They were both sweating heavily as they shifted
their positions on the red tiling. No one was around for they didn't
want to get caught up with a bunch of people who could level buildings
using some sort of supernatural powers.
A light breeze blew through the air and the sky was a bright red.
The sun was nearly set and it would only be a matter of time before the
Shadow Scourge's roamed and only came out to kill. People only saw them
when the scourges wanted to be seen. They hid in the shadows and moved
in secret. They were the assassins of darkness and lords of shadows.
Amiel knew this and it and had to get to Phillip's before they
reached his house. That's if whoever's after him strike's tonight. And
it always was best to be prepared, just in case. "Will you let me go
damn it! I have a job to do, and I'm not in the mood to kill, not yet!"
The man sighed as he wiped some sweat of his face. "Okay. Just tell
me who you gave the Necrotome to and you'll go free, ok?"
Amiel looked over at the setting sun and felt it's patience running
out. It could handle physical violence but it couldn't stand people
getting on it's nerves. "I don't know who I gave it to. So just go away
and find him."
The man looked a little to the left, and then he quickly snapped
right and threw a black fireball at Amiel. Amiel quickly dodged this
though with no real effort. So it ended up colliding with the next
building and blowing of a good cubic meter or two of the house.
Amiel charged at the man with it's sword and so began another bout
of close range combat. But it didn't last long. Soon a large thunderbolt
came from nowhere and struck right by the two figures. They were sent
flying from the force of the blast.
Yellow energy surged all around the house and through the house,
incinerating the whole building in second's. While the two combatants's
were left unconscious on the ground. No one dared go near them in fear
of ending up like the house. Destroyed, completely leveled, only ash
remained...............
A man hovered above the scene. He was draped in a blood red robe but
you wouldn't be able to tell because he had an illusion spell up,
therefore making him blend in with his environment, making him almost
impossible to see.
He looked through the Necrotome with a grin on his face. This thing
was amazing! That was one of the weakest spells in the book, yet it
leveled a building. That was not as great as the fact that they didn't
detect it before it hit. They were both top level mages and should have
seen any magic source in the area. But that spell was masked, covered
from normal mages senses. But how?
And then the man vanished, leaving only smoke behind.......
Amiel woke up, it's head spinning. Whatever the hell that magic was,
it was powerful and undetectable by mages. Such a weapon would be very
useful. It must have come from the Necrotome though. Was it worth giving
away some of the most powerful spells in the world to a unknown mage for
some money? Yes it was, money is everything.
It then looked at it's watch, which was luckily still intact. It was
9:54, it'd been out for an hour and a half!
And then Amiel ran off to protect Phillip, with it's shadow wall in
one piece........
A figure moved through the city with great agility. It was hiding
behind a smoke screen, which was a variation of the shadow wall. Instead
of masking someone in a shadow, it masked someone in smoke.
The figure had felt the presence of a lot of magic being used, and was
rushing there as fast as it could. It just hoped that something was
going to be waiting there for it.......
The black clothed figure got up off the ground and wiped the dirt of
his clothes. He shook his head and looked up at the sky to see it was
late at night. It seemed he was out for quite a long time. A little to
long.
He then got up and looked at the leveled building. Whoever had used
that must have had the Necrotome. Such a powerful spell, it couldn't be
sensed by mages.
He sighed and then moved quickly into the shadows and then towards
the apartment he was renting. And no one saw him move at all because he
had a shadow wall up........
Mrs. Davis sighed as she slumped down tho rest on her blue couch.
Today at school had been so tiring, the student's were like monsters.
She quickly picked up the channel changer which was lying on the
couch. Then she turned on the T.V. and began to click through all the
channel's. This went on for about ten minutes. She had looked through
over thirty channels and yet, there was nothing good on.
Deciding to take a slight nap she got up and stretched a bit. She
yawned and looked down at the dirty grey carpet. Should be vacuumed
soon. And the dirty white walls should be cleaned as well. They didn't
keep this place in very good condition before they sold it to her. But
at least no one would suspect that she would be living in a crappy
apartment building.
Then a sound hit her ears, something subtle, to subtle for a normal
person to hear. Sh then snapped around and looked at the shadow cast by
a cabinet she had in the room. She focused on the cabinet and then
raised her right hand straight up, her palm facing the ceiling. "Bind!"
As the words left her mouth something came out of the shadow. It
looked like a human shadow, totally black. It held a sword in it's hand
but couldn't use it. Circles of bright green light held the monster and
pulled it toward's the teacher.
Once it reached the teacher she looked over the creature, knowing
full well that it was a shadow scourge. "Let's see, where did he come
from." She then looked at the creatures wrist to see a seal there. It
was read, circular, and had three stars aligned in a triangular
position. "So it looks like the little man is overstepping his bounds.
Did Myila give him that much authority. To command his shadow scourge's
against anyone he choose? Look's like I will have to go talk to him"
She then walked away from the shadow scourge. But not before she
reduced him to ash with a powerful fire spell.......
