I apologize to no one.
That is, if I had my last breath in my lungs right now, I would
not apologize to no one, about anything that I have done, or has
been done around me. I wouldn't pride in each and every action
- that would mean that I would be perfect, and since I am not, I
do not.
But I am getting ahead of myself. I, after all, am talking to
you, and you do not yet know me. You probably do, but I do not
expect it at this point, no.
Perhaps you are wondering why I am talking to you, all out of the
blue, without much of a preamble to the prattlings of a complete
(well, maybe not complete) stranger. It is just that I have been
watching you for some time now, and only mean to ask a question.
What question, you may ask. Indeed, I ask myself that sometimes.
Is there a question which you will be able to pose a person who
will be unfamiliar with you that will be worth leaving the
obscurity and the anonymity that that person might enjoy?
There is none. That is the struggle of human existence, the gist
of language.
If I, assuming that I be completely human, mortal and earthbound,
were to acquire such a question, and I were to ask it to you,
would you be able to answer, knowing full well that you would be
giving your very essence to me? Would you have another person
gain control of your very existence, by the mere insight of your
own self?
Would it be worth your while then?
Indeed, no question can exist - no question can be formulated by a
single, mortal, being, without that being knowing his or her own
answer. He (or she) would live in fear, hoping that no one else
would ask him or her that question.
Or, perhaps...
Perhaps, instead of an answer, what if each person were to be,
instead, a question, unique to that person, whose answer would be
unique?
Then the question one might ask is, "What is that question which
is unique to you?" whose answer would be telling and binding.
No, that cannot be it. Perhaps it is impossible to concisely
formulate an avatar through the imagery of language - not by one
question, not by a dozen, or any finite number of questions.
So persons will forever remain strangers, in some sense. No two
people would be able to question each other infinitely, deriving
each nuance, through every channel, through every medium and
sense, until all that can be gleaned by one is gleaned by the
other and vice versa.
But who am I to say? The marriage of true minds would be up to
any challenge of wit, and would likely succeed. Perhaps it is
because I have never before been bonded as such.
Ah... but it is no matter. By the look on your face, I believe
that I have been dissipated along your psyche, a mere figment of
your self-awareness. But I have voice, and so do you. I have
will beyond your own, and I will be here, listening to your
question.
And my question would be, "what do you think?"
