                           OOC

                             by Lucres Annuiteas

This isn't a rant, so don't worry about that. It is
just meant to prove a point.

It was a normal day in the Tendou dojo...Right?

"Argh!" Ranma peeled himself off the ground
after being hit by Akane's mallet. "That's it! I'm
tired of you hitting me and jumping to conclusions!
I'm leaving you and marrying Ukyou. Or maybe Shampoo.
Hell, even Kodachi!"

      "But--But--"

"No 'buts'. You heard Ranchan." Ukyou, who had
just appeared out of nowhere, glomped onto Ranma. She
was only too happy to take up the implied offer.

"Hahaha. Stupid Akane. Ranma mine." Shampoo took
the other half of Ranma, smiling brightly.

No one noticed as a nearby Kasumi's eyes glinted
strangely. She stepped up to the others, removing
Ukyou and Shampoo from Ranma.

"You're not supposed to do that, Ranma-kun,"
Kasumi said, looking straight into Ranma's eyes. She
grabbed his shoulders firmly. "Now apologize to Akane,
and everything will go back to normal."

"Forget that. Ukyou is much cuter anyw--Erk!
You're hurting me!" Ranma gave out a cry, stepping
away from Kasumi's hold. Kasumi stepped closer to
Ranma. Ranma took more steps, trying to put some space
between himself and the strangely-acting Kasumi.
Seeing that she was still following him, he wanted to
know what was wrong with Kasumi.

"Why are you acting like this?" She was starting
to scare him, and he that strange look of hers
was...unnerving. He finally couldn't take it and broke
into a full sprint, heading out the dojo gates.

"The answer to your question is simple: You're
being Out Of Character. That mustn't be allowed. The
real question is: Why are YOU acting like this?"
Kasumi followed him through the gates and the
neighborhood.

Though he ran as fast as he could, Kasumi kept
up with him. She pulled out a small glock, pointing it
at him. "You must not be allowed to live on if you're
not going to remain In Character."

By now, Ranma was totally freaked out. He ran
into downtown Nerima, hoping to lose her, but she kept
up and was now gaining on him. The crowded streets
didn't help him at all. It slowed him down, but she
just ran over everyone. Literally.

Ranma was running out of options, and the glock
pointing at him was making him a little edgy. He
wasn't sure Kasumi would actually use the gun, but he
didn't want to take that chance.

The frightened martial artist quickly removed
the cover of a nearby manhole and hopped in. Ranma was
now drenched, but she couldn't stop to worry about
that.

"You're only making this harder on yourself,
Ranma-kun. Why don't you come here, so I can fix you
up real nice?" Her cheerful voice echoed throughout
the tunnel, and it was clear that she hadn't lost pace
with him.

The soaking red-haired girl didn't know how long
she'd been running, but she did know that she couldn't
go on much longer. What concerned her now was that
Kasumi hadn't caught up yet or shot him. Was she
playing games with him?

Seeing a shaft of light, a cold feeling seemed
to have slipped down his throat and to the pit of his
stomach. The tunnel opened to a waterfall, and the
only way out for her was down. Ranma-chan turned
around, and raised his hands in defeat.

"I've always had a fondness for the classics,"
Kasumi called aloud, appearing before him. "This is
where it ends for you, mister. I hope your replacement
will know not to get Out of Character."

"But, I'm not Out Of Character," Ranma-chan
pleaded.

"Why did you decide that you would rather be
with Ukyou? Why did you denounce your engagement? Why
didn't you stop and try to fight me?" Kasumi cocked
her gun and pointed it at the offending female.

Ranma-chan attempted a jump. She was pretty sure
she could survive the fall, and maybe Kasumi wouldn't
follow her down there.

Unfortunately (or fortunately) Kasumi shot her
down the second her feet left the floor. "That takes
care of that." She blew off some of the smoke coming
from the mouth of the gun.

Kasumi then pointed the gun at her temple.
There was no room for inconsistency. There was no room
for those who couldn't remain in character.

She pulled the trigger.

Author's notes:

I wrote this in 10 minutes after reading the posts
about 'Who Will Crack First'. Isn't it funny how the
posts with the least believable characterization and
situations get the most attention? Maybe I'll get some
responses from this ^_^.

-Though there is a certain extent to how far a
character can leave canon, OOC stories can be a lot of
fun. Besides, I read to enjoy.
