                                            Part 8 of Eternal Sin.

I walked up the steps, thousands of them. Made of black stone like
the rest of the castle they sent off a dark aura. But after being here
for a few days I had gotten used to the darkness. The darkness was not
evil and the light not holy. It depends upon who uses it for what. And
this evil was being used for good at the moment, but that could change.
I didn't contain the same sorrow and despair that I had when Mya
died for I knew she was alive and I could rescue her. If only I was
strong enough to defeat Alucard, then maybe I could have her. Maybe.
Then I hit the last step and opened the door to look outwards. The
sky was black and not a cloud nor the moon could be seen. It seemed that
they were blocked by black clouds of evil. The air up here was crisp and
tasted tainted. But not as tainted as the man who stood only a few
meters away. The same man who had trained me for the day when I would
have to fight the man I now protect.
Alucard looked different. His clothes were now red instead of black
but something else seemed different. He seemed more in a daze and less
himself. As though someone with greater power was exerting a force on
him. "So you have come."
I looked at his hair blowing in the wind and then I looked into his
eyes which had a look of regret. He did not want to hurt me, but someone
else did. "Where is she." My voice was colder then the blowing wind.
He stepped out of the way to show me a tied up and gaged woman
struggling to get free. "She's yours if you want her. Just fight me.
Pass the test."
I nodded and drew my sword. "I care not for your test but for Mya. I
don't want to kill you Alucard. So leave before you regret staying."
Alucard shook his head and drew his own sword. "I'm sorry my friend.
My only friend. But I have to do this."
"Why? Why do you have to do this?"
He hung his head low and sighed. "Because if I didn't, I would have
to face the truth."
I could see he was breaking up inside and I did care. He was my best
friend as well, a person I could rely on. He was over four hundred years
old now but I didn't care. "What truth may that be?"
"The truth that I am no different then my father. To face myself
would be to face my greatest enemy. You are but a distraction from the
pain I have. Now on guard."
And so the battle began. He charged at me while I threw three
bottles of holy water at the ground in front of him. It exploded into
streams of blue flames which Alucard dodged with ease. I then followed
up with half a dozen knives and a few crosses. I knew they wouldn't hit
but I hoped it would distract him, but it didn't even do that.
And so then close combat ensued. He fought with every bit of his
strength and I could feel myself being overrun with his power. But then
he faltered and in my haste I accidentally stabbed him through the
heart. And then the blood poured out onto to black stone. Onto the
blade. And onto my hands.
I stepped back not knowing what I had done, only hoping that the
pain inside of me would end. It seemed my life was now an eternal battle
within myself, a battle against insanity and self loathing. And I was
losing.
I looked at his body and saw his eyes looking up into mine. And he
smiled, he smiled ever so slightly. And then he whispered, "Thank you
for your years of friendship. I thank you for all you given. My death is
my present to you. Now take Mya and be happy."
I ran over to his body and watched his clothes soaking up my tears.
"Damn you, don't go. I don't care what you had done, just live!"
He shook his head and his smile faded. "I've been damned to this for
almost a century. When I slew Dracula a hundred years ago I was left
alone. Then Death came to me. He came in nightmares and twisted me. He
aided the dark side of me to take control. My eternal battle of good and
evil within was lost when he first became my master. And he set me up to
meet you, to find your weakness and exploit it. And to break you. But
even though I was told to do that, I became your friend. So thank you.
And don't shed those tears for me, I'm going to see my mother now.
Good-bye, Antin." And then all life from his body vanished.
And so I cried over his body, and tear came down upon the castle.
Almost as though my sorrow was manifested.
But a voice broke my thought's and emotions. "And now young Belmont.
You are worthy to fight me."
I looked over to see Death standing in front of Mya. Scythe in hand
and ready for battle. He had a smile on that skinless face of his. I
felt anger crush me in a wave, drowning my good judgement in pure anger.
So I ran at the man screaming,
"Damn you, you bastard! I'll kill you!"
And so he just sighed and threw a few fireballs my way. When they
struck stone was thrown everywhere, cutting my body and tearing my
armor. Death was surprised at this but threw more and more. And I ran
through them all knowing my ward was still working.
And before he understood why none of his magic had worked he was
missing his left arm. It lay there on the ground and he growled at me. I
had cut it off in one strong swipe. But I would not stop there. I would
cut off every limb and burn them all one by one. And then I would take
the ashes and cast them into holy water, hoping the pain would never
end.
But I had to settle with the limb cutting for now. And so we fought,
sword against scythe. He could still fight very well even with one hand.
But I clearly had the advantage. And when I had gotten the second lucky
strike, a dozen were to follow until he was nothing more then a body
with no legs and no arms, just a body and a head. But he was not truly
alive so that would not be enough to kill him.
He looked up and laughed at me. It was a light, labored laugh but it
was just as dark and evil as all other's he had sent my way. "You may
kill me for now, but in a hundred years I will be back, and no one will
stop me."
And then I cut his head off with one clean hit. Time slowed as it
rolled off the mans head and hit the stone with a thud. His head soon
joined by the body as it collapsed after. Ands then it was all over
I felt no emotion at that moment, I only felt a certain contentment.
And maybe I felt a little happy knowing that he was dead for now. But I
had to rid him from this world from good. And so I scooped up his bones
into my hands and looked at them. They were brown and seemed to be
rotting with great speed. And so I walked over to the edge of the roof
and cast the bones into the lake. I watched them hit the water with a
splash and then sunk. My moment of happiness sunk at that moment as
everything of late came to mind. Alucard's death, my brother's, the
threat of Megami and the unknown Sypha. I knew then that it was not
over, and the end would be a terrible thing. Almost as terrible as if it
never ended. But it would, and I would end it!
Death's dark, twisted soul was now joining the other's at the bottom
of that eternal hell hole called a lake. But it was not a lake as much
as a testament to the evil's of Dracula prior to his depressing state.
Before the words of his wife had created a new, self-loathing Dracula.
The new Dracula was enduring a torture within his soul. While Death was
enduring pain of the body. Pain of the soul was much worse though and
Dracula did not deserve it.
I walked over to Mya's body and slowly untied her, suddenly not so
happy to see her. She was about to hug me but I pushed her away. She was
surprised to say the least but she understood. Or at least she thought
she didn't. No one could understand the pain I felt within. A pain so
great that I could not tell Dracula or Mya about it.
And so I left Mya out in the rain, crying over me and what happened.
Alucard was her friend but she mostly cried fro me. While she cried I
walked into the castle, unable to face her. My face was covered in rain
drops, or was it tears? I then went to my bedroom to get some sleep. But
it would not come easily for me.

I always try to add some sort of philosophy in my stories. There
wasn't very much but I hope you've noticed it. Please send C&C!
