Author's notes: our first and maybe only songfic. By now, you can
probably tell that I really like the idea of Shinji and Asuka
together. ^_^ Enjoy!

boyband Boyzone. The italicized stuff is mine. So please, don't sue,

An EVA Songfic: No Matter What (song by Boyzone)

No matter what they tell us
(Shinji slowly walking down a poorly light street in Tokyo-3, his eyes
downcast, he is visibly depressed over something)
No matter what they do
(Footsteps of men running towards Shinji and after catching up to him,
he is dragged away by the men in black suits and shades.)
No matter what they teach us
(Asuka receives a lecture from the commander, Ikari Gendou, before he
ends it by signaling her to leave)
What we believe is true
(Shinji, handcuffed, is brought into the commander�s room, Asuka and
Shinji sneak glances at each other, their eyes catch each other�s, and
Asuka looks away angrily, while Shinji just looks at her with a sorry
expression on his face.)

No matter what they call us
(Asuka and Shinji both receive a chewing out from Kaji and Misato
respectively)
However they attack
(Shinji harshly thrown into the prison, while Kaji drives Asuka to the
apartment and leaves her there.)
No matter where they take us
(Shinji is in a dark prison cell still handcuffed, while Asuka is in
the apartment, in her room, looking at nothing.)
We�ll find our own way back
(Shinji�s head rises, and he looks towards the only source of light in
his cell, a small window, in what he thinks is the general direction
of his apartment. Asuka�s head also rises, and she looks towards her
window, unconsciously looking towards NERV headquarters, where Shinji
was being held.)

I can�t deny what I believe
(A splitscreen where we see both children seemingly gazing at each
other�s "screen" before they both turn away from each other)
I can�t be what I�m not
(Shinj just shaking his head.)
I know I�ll love forever
(Shinji stops shaking his head, and he stays still, thinking,
remembering, reminiscing in his dark cell.)
I know no matter what
(Suddenly, Shinji eyes light up and he stands up from his sitting
position, and somehow, the eyes of his EVA 01 also light up....)

If only tears were laughter
(Asuka sleeping on her futon, as tears fall down her cheek.)
If only night was day
( an image of Asuka and Shinji walking together from school, it is
late and the sun has set, yet they don�t seem to be in a hurry to get
home, and they both seemed to be nice to each other.)
If only prayers were answered
(Asuka somehow trapped in darkness, and then looking towards a
powerful, nearly blinding light which suddenly appears)
Then we will hear God say
(A powerful looking figure, the light shining all around him, blinding
Asuka, the figure cannot be seen thanks to the light, yet he seems to
be speaking)

(The figure�s outline gestures towards Asuka)
No matter what they do
(images of different people grabbing Asuka and Shinji, keeping them
apart, dragging them away from each other, even though both of them
are trying desperately to reach towards each other.)
No matter what they teach you
(an image of Shinji and Asuka in a classroom, with Gendou Ikari as the
teacher)
What you believe is true.
(The figure points directly at Asuka. She seems shocked for a moment,
before she starts remembering, and realizing something.)

And I will keep you safe and strong
( an image of Asuka�s EVA 02 in the special lava magma diver suit, the
cable keeping her connected about to snap and send her into the fiery
abyss. When it does snap, and she starts drifting, falling in the
magma, EVA 01 grabs hold of the cable. Asuka looks up at the purple
EVA, and smiles.)
Shelter from the storm
( a sequence where it�s raining hard, and Asuka is stuck at school
with no umbrella. Shinji comes up to her, with a small umbrella, good
for one person only, yet he still offers to share)
No matter where it�s bound
(They walk home together, the rain pouring down, with Shinji holding
the umbrella for them both. The umbrella mostly covers Asuka)
A dream is being born
(They get home, and Asuka is toasty dry, while Shinji is somehow
soaking wet, despite him having the umbrella. Asuka seems touched at
this.)

No matter who they follow
(A scene where the entire cast is there)
No matter where they be
(the various cast members of EVA in different places, ranging from the
Geofront to the beach.)
No matter how they judge us
(The cast, especially Rei and Kaoru, are staring harshly at Shinji and
Asuka with accusing looks)
I�ll be everyone you�ll need
(Asuka is conscious of the stares she was receiving, but Shinji
ignores it and goes to her, reaching out to her.)

No matter if the sun won�t shine
(In reality, outside the Geofront, we see EVA 01 suddenly appear out
of nowhere, seemingly phasing through the thick walls of the NERV HQ
and hovering in the sky high above Tokyo-3, blocking out the sun. EVA
01�s eyes are shining brightly, its arms are outstretched, and it has
somehow grown ethereal wings.)
Or river, skies are blue
(the EVA looks around, its gaze sweeping over the city, before it
moves forward, towards a destination that was clear in its own mind.)
No matter what they envy
(The NERV personnel are panicking and scrambling to find ways to stop
the rogue EVA from moving. The Geo front is in full red alert, alarms
are ringing and klaxons were blaring away.)
My love will be there with you
(Inside the EVA, Shinji is floating serenely within the behemoth, his
face is set in a stern, purposeful expression. He has a goal, and he
will not be deterred.)

I can�t deny what I believe
(Asuka wakes from her slumber, it takes her a moment to realize that
she is at home alone and not with Shinji like she was in her dream.)
I can�t be what I�m not
(She starts to cry, before she notices that it has suddenly become
dark outside, something is blocking out the sun.)
I know this love�s forever
(She goes to the window, and sees EVA 01 hovering above the city,
above the apartment. The EVA reaches out towards her. Asuka backs
away, scared at this.)
That�s all that matters now
(A bright light manifests on the EVA, and small translucent sphere of
energy comes out of the chest of the EVA, coming towards the
apartment. Inside the globe is Shinji.)
No matter what, no matter what
(The globe passes through the walls of the apartment with no problem,
and when it is inside, the globe collapses, leaving Shinji face to
face with Asuka. Shinji smiles at her, and all it takes is for him to
reach out to her, before she jumps at him and engulfs him in a
desperate hug.)
That�s all that matters to me.
(Shinji and Asuka hold each other closely, before they both move
towards each other for a kiss....)
