Gary, face it. No matter WHAT Ukyo uses, some people are going to object.
I'm not objecting to the weapon choice, I'm objecting that you altered a
scene from the manga so that two characters who were not endangering anyone
in the original, now are.
Actually they were trying to endanger Akane in the origional, the fact
that they almost always eased back from serious damage when they said they were
trying to kill someone doesn't change the fact that they were attacking with
potentially lethal force. Combats chaotic and unpredictable, and the only
change here is that a formaly ineffective attack just happened to be a little
more effective.
If you just altered the scene to give Ukyou a different attack that is already
more lethal in canon, rather than to raise the lethality of the attack she
used, I would of course still object--because you'd be doing the same thing
(in a more obvious way). You _could_ have Ukyou attack Akane with a katana
in a way that I wouldn't object to; you'd have to change the _circumstances_
rather than the weapon.
I honestly don't see what's wrong with the circumstances. Ukyo and
Shampoo attacked Akane using something that was supposed to be deadly but never
turned out to be. Like they did throughout the Manga. In the origional, the
laws of slapstick kept the explosion just far enough away to keep the damage
cosmetic. Here the law of slapstick didn't come into play, and the explosion
did a bit more damage
