Chapter 1 - Fun House Mirror
A warm and gentle spring rain pattered against the window in a rhythmic
beat. On rare occasions, the distant sound of thunder could be heard
throughout Crystal Tokyo. And as Crown Princess Tsukino Usagi "Small
Lady" Serenity looked out her bedroom window that afternoon, the world
seemed to be still. The once lush lawn of the backyard of the Royal
Suite was only slightly muted to a deeper green. The flowers that raised
their faces to the sun now accepted the gentle shower gracefully,
vibrant colors only waiting until the parting of the clouds.
At only a few months short of sweet sixteen, Princess Usagi was
typically happy, or at least as happy as one could be while being
grounded. Sometimes she wondered if she would spend the rest of her life
being grounded, considering she had been in an almost permanent state of
being grounded since before Christmas. Not that she could really blame
her parents for taking a dim view of her, as her mother put it, "Joyride
through time!"
A giggle sprang to Usagi's lips at that thought and she indulged it for
a moment as she peered out through the gentle rain. <We needed that,>
Usagi mused to herself as she drew her knees up to her chest and rested
her chin on them, <It was nice while it lasted.> Despite the problems it
caused, Usagi didn't regret the trip. It had seemed to shake Misako from
her black mood.
<Now she's too happy...> Usagi thought. In the past couple of weeks,
Usagi had noticed that Misako's mood had shifted to an almost unnatural
point. It was like her younger sister, after having labored under some
prolonged and frustrating problem, had finally realized what she had to
do to solve that problem. <I don't like it!> She didn't like it
especially considering that they had not received any acknowledgement
from their mother, Neo-Queen Serenity, showing that she accepted any
responsibility in splitting them up in the first place.
Starting to feel restless, Usagi got up from her position by the window
and walked out of her room. After walking down the hallway, she paused
outside Misako's bedroom door. Gently tapping on it, she called out,
"Miko-chan, can I come in?" Hearing a muffled response, Usagi cautiously
opened the door and peeked inside.
Unlike her room that was dominated by the color pink, Princess Tsukino
Misako's bedroom was more on the purple or mauve side. There were two
other large differences in their bedrooms. First, Misako's bedroom had a
distinctive boyish air to it. Misako had always been more of a tomboy
than her older sister who, although she proclaimed her disdain for
frills and lace, preferred wearing dresses to some of the things Misako
would wear. The second major difference was that Misako's room was
stripped almost completely of any reminders of her childhood with the
possible exception of a lone green teddy bear that sat on Misako's bed.
Usagi, on the other hand, had a few stuffed animals left over and some
other childhood momentos that were squirreled away.
It was this last point that annoyed the teen considerably. Her sister,
being the younger by over three years, should have still had most of her
childhood things. Certainly, at age twelve, Usagi had had more than her
share. Instead, Misako had one day decided that she didn't need any of
it and put everything into storage. Misako had been on the verge of
giving everything away but Usagi had persuaded her not to do such a
thing. Having these reminders around caused Usagi's anger and resentment
towards Serenity to again spark into life.
"Come on in, 'Sagi-chan!" Misako's voice intoned cheerfully. Giving a
jerk, Usagi realized she was still peeking around the door. Entering the
bedroom fully, she noticed that the bathroom door was partially closed.
"I'll be out in a couple of sec's."
Usagi walked over to the bed and sat down. <Better add a third
difference to that list,> Usagi thought, <This place is... organized!>
While the room wasn't excessively tidy, Usagi had to admit that it was
better organized than her room. Misako's numerous books were neatly
sorted and shelved, each item had its place. "What are you doing,
Miko-chan?" Usagi asked. Her gaze crossed over to the desk where she
noticed a fairly thick book lay open.
"Just reading, Onee-chan," Misako replied. Anything else she might have
added was lost in the rumble of the toilet and then of water running
into the sink. When she finally emerged from the bathroom, Usagi's
eyebrows rose in mild surprise. "Nani?"
"Aren't you cold?" Usagi asked. Misako gave her a puzzled look so she
added, "Imouto, you aren't even dressed yet and it's past noon." <And
I'm supposed to be the late sleeper.> Misako giggled and getting some
clean clothes, vanished back into the bathroom again. Usagi for her part
rolled her eyes and asked, "So what's this book you've been reading?"
"Um... nothing really," Misako answered in an evasive sounding tone,
"'Sagi, did you want something?"
Usagi felt an evil grin slide into place as she glanced towards the
desk. "Oh... so it must be THAT type of book."
Misako stuck her head out of the bathroom and asked, "And just what do
you mean by `that type of book'?"
Usagi ignored the question and rambled on, "Although I'd hide that if
Mother or Dad came into the room. You'd likely get grounded but good if
they ever found it." She returned Misako's indignant look with a smile.
"Well if it isn't a naughty book, then you can tell YOUR onee-chan, ne?"
"MY onee-chan is nosy," Misako muttered darkly as she walked out of the
bathroom only partially clad, her long blonde-white hair cascading over
her shoulders. Seeming to ignore the shocked surprise of Usagi, Misako
marched over to the desk, picked up the book, and tossed it to her
sister before walking back into the bathroom.
Usagi, feeling a little hurt, put the book on the bed, and getting up,
walked to the bathroom, and leaned against the doorframe. "Ne, what's
the matter, Miko-chan?"
"Nothin'..."
"Come on, Misako," Usagi prodded with some exasperation, "You're up to
something, I can tell."
Silence emanated from the bathroom. Usagi resisted the urge to repeat
her question and instead, walked over to the window to stare out at the
rain. After a long moment, she heard the padding of feet on the soft
carpeting behind her. Turning around, she saw that Misako had changed
into a pair of blue overalls and a yellow T-shirt.
"Would you do my hair please?" Misako asked as she held out the
hairbrush. Usagi smiled and after taking the hairbrush, motioned for
Misako to sit down on the bed. "'Sagi-chan," Misako began softly, "do
you think people like me?"
Usagi paused in her brushing for a moment before continuing it. "Hai."
<Why wouldn't they?> It was certainly a strange question out of Misako.
"Yuki and Yumeko like you; I know Sakuya and Masao do and Atsuko too."
<I'm not going to sit here and name every person though,> Usagi thought.
Misako was silent until Usagi had completed putting her hair up in the
usual round odangos and pigtails, a trademark of the Royal Family. "Do
you think anybody but you would be sad if I went away?"
This time Usagi put the brush down and moved around to kneel so she was
looking up into her sister's face. "Miko-chan, a lot of people would be
sad. Me and Kimeko would be. So would Yuki and Yumeko." <How could she
even think such a thing?> Usagi wondered as she looked into her sister's
somber face. "Atsuko, Makoto, and Sakuya would be upset too, even Dad
and Mother would be. Dad especially."
"But I'm not important," she countered, "Mother wouldn't have done this
if I was." Before Usagi could respond, Misako asked, "Are you dating
Senji-kun?" Usagi was so surprised by the sudden change in topics that
she simply stared at the preteen. "I'm so confused. Senji says he
doesn't want anything to do with a little kid and he was wrong in being
friends with me..." Misako's voice caught and after swallowing, she
added, "And everybody else thinks that I'm acting too mature..."
<Oh brother...> Usagi moved to sit down on the bed beside Misako and
wrapped an arm around the younger girl. "Miko-chan... I thought you were
really happy."
"I didn't want you to laugh at me, Onee-chan," Misako replied. It had
been very humiliating to have Senji brush her off; how Usagi had missed
the news, Misako didn't know. <Even Yuki's got a boyfriend!> Certainly,
he was neither as old nor mature as Senji. However, to be out done by
Yuki was something Misako was finding a particularly bitter pill to
swallow. Yuki's not even twelve yet!
"Laugh at you?" Usagi said incredulously, then with some heat, "Why in
the name of Serenity's Ghost would I laugh at you?!?"
"I don't know," Misako whined, "Everybody wants me to be exactly like
you!" The angry glare that had leapt into her eyes softened,
"'Sagi-chan, I can't do anything special. I know it's not your fault.
How many people cared when I ran away, 'Sagi? How many worried where I
went?"
"Misako, what are you talking about? You and me are a great team."
Misako shook her head sadly. "We fought together in the past. We train
together in Senshi practice. What do you mean we aren't a team?"
"I shouldn't be a Senshi, 'Sagi-chan. There's no way I'll ever be as
good as you. You were important to the timeline, to Mother and Father.
Even when we grew up, you were taller than I am and prettier. It's like
I really don't belong here, Usagi... maybe I was adopted."
Usagi felt her head starting to spin. After a brief pause, she grabbed a
hold of the only thing that made sense. "Miko-chan, Senji said he didn't
want to go out with a little kid?"
"Hai," Misako replied, a glimmer in her eyes betrayed the tears she was
holding back.
"When was this?"
"Yesterday when school was getting out," Misako answered. Looking
towards the ground, she sighed a little and explained further, "I saw
him with this girl. When I got closer, he told me she was his
girlfriend. I... I said something rude and Senji got upset. When I said
he was mine..." Misako didn't notice Usagi's grimace; what Misako was
saying was awfully familiar. She too had once had a crush on the older
boy. "He wanted to know where I got the baka idea of me being his
girlfriend... I was a little kid after all."
Usagi sighed and rubbed her forehead. She had known this was coming.
Senji had asked her how to get Misako to realize he wasn't interested in
her at all as a girlfriend. "Misako, didn't we go through this before? I
thought you two agreed just to be friends. Maybe when you're older..."
"But I'm almost thirteen now!" Misako interrupted.
Usagi rolled her eyes in exasperation while wrapping a comforting arm
around her sister. "Misako," Usagi said with as much patience as she
could muster, "You two were friends. I don't understand why you had to
go and press him about being your boyfriend."
"Because," Misako shouted while jumping to her feet, "He's my only
chance!" When Usagi gave her a blank look, Misako made a noise of
frustration and stormed over to the window. Crossing her arms, the
younger girl stared moodily out at the rain. "Even Yuki has a
boyfriend."
"He's only a year older than her, Imouto," Usagi offered tentatively.
<Sakuya thought it was kinda sweet really.> "The biggest thing they've
done is hold hands." Helios had kissed her.
Muttering more to herself than Usagi, Misako said, "Maybe if I had
boobs, I'd have a boyfriend." Puberty was certainly taking its sweet
time arriving.
"Don't be so silly, Misako!" Usagi said with a mixture of exasperation
and amusement. "You're just too young for Senji."
"You don't understand..." Misako whined. Turning from the window, she
looked fairly miserable. The cheerfulness that had been there had
evaporated away. Usagi felt uncomfortable but wasn't about to feel
guilty. "'Sagi, I have to get a boyfriend before you. I have to do
SOMETHING before you do."
Usagi would have counted Helios, Michael, Peruru, and a couple of others
as boyfriends but she wouldn't dare correct her sister. "I thought we
weren't going to compete," Usagi countered as she rose and walked over
to Misako. "I thought we had this worked out, ne?"
"Iie! YOU had this worked out," Misako countered as her face flushed
with anger. "You're smarter than I am, prettier, and more important."
"Because I'm Crown Princess!" Usagi huffed with some exasperation, "Damn
it, Misako, if you're upset about something, then tell me!"
"I don't want to be Usagi Number Two!" Misako shouted back, "But in
everything I do, I am becoming you! I'm your double!" Reaching up, she
clenched her odangos and jerked them violently, "The same hair, the same
grades, the same everything. If I'm not exactly like you, then I'm not
good at something. You're a more powerful Senshi. You seem to be liked a
lot more than I am! I could up and vanish and no more than ten people
would give a damn..." Breathing heavily, Misako whirled away and
scrubbed at her eyes. "I should never have been a Sailor Senshi..."
"What about your gymnastics?" Usagi asked, her voice quavered with hurt
and pain. "I can't do gymnastics."
"Neither can I," Misako admitted sadly, her voice cracking at the end,
"I have to give it up. Just like everything else that would make me
different... I have to give it up." Seeing the stunned expression on her
sister's face, Misako gave a weak smile. "You didn't know then. I'm too
old now to do that and be a Senshi; Mother won't let me give up
Senshiing... Of course, I have to do just as my onee does."
At this point, Usagi exploded. Her torrent of acidic curses was mostly
directed toward her mother and Sailor Pluto but there were a few choice
words for Misako as well. Pacing about the room like a caged animal,
Usagi snarled with frustration and anger. "I can't believe it! Misako, I
thought we worked this out. I want you to be my sister and that's all!"
"I know, Onee-chan," Misako said softly, "But this doesn't have anything
to do with it. I want to be your sister too but I don't want to be you."
She hadn't intended on upsetting Usagi. Her sister was as much a victim
of their mother and Pluto's meddling as she was.
Usagi paused, one foot dangling in midair. Shifting, she turned to face
her sister fully. "This is all Mother's fault." When Misako didn't
interject, Usagi continued on, "Come with me." Without giving Misako any
chance to respond, Usagi grabbed Misako's hand and pulled her from the
room. <I'll make her see that we're different people!>
"Usagi..."
"Just listen!" Usagi insisted as she tugged her sister along the hallway
and once at her bedroom, opened the door. With a flourish, she
commanded, "Now tell me your room is the same as mine."
"This is silly," Misako replied. She would have turned and walked back
to her room but her much larger sister, who still had a hold of her
hand, yanked her past the doorway and into the room. "HEY!" Misako
squawked, "Lemme go!" Her sister obliged her but only to turn and shut
the door before standing in front of it like a guard. "Usagi, let me
out." <It's not my fault she's mad,> Misako thought sulkily to herself,
<She's the one that brought it up...>
"Not until you see that we're different people," Usagi replied. Misako's
response was to cross her arms and glare. "Oh, don't pout, Imouto,
you're twelve." Misako started to correct her. "Okay, twelve and a
half." Using her hand to encompass all of the room, Usagi asked, "Can
you honestly say that your room is like mine?"
"It isn't the same," Misako huffed out, "It doesn't..."
"It does so count," Usagi countered, "If people wanted us to be the
same, then your room would be the same as mine."
"But it is!"
"Then show me!"
Grumbling under her breath, Misako turned on her heels as she surveyed
the room. After a moment or so, she turned back and said, "First, we
both have a stuffed toy on our bed." As Usagi started to open her mouth,
Misako raised a finger, "Hai, you do have a couple more than me... but I
s'ppose since I'm younger, I should have more than you. The number
really doesn't matter. We don't have very many stuffed animals." When
Usagi closed her mouth, Misako continued on, "There are different
colors... and I guess you could say that the ecchi manga under your
mattress counts as being different."
Usagi's cheeks took on a crimson hue as she blushed. Then Misako's words
sunk in. "MI-SA-KO!" Misako giggled and stepped backwards from her
sister. "How do you know it was there?"
"Oh, there really is one?" Misako chirped sweetly, "I was just
guessing."
Usagi blinked and then after a moment or so, scowled at her sister.
Stalking over to her bed, Usagi lifted the mattress up and plucked a
small book from underneath it. "It's a diary... not an ecchi manga!" She
heard Misako grumble something under her breath along the lines of
"Coulda fooled me." And as she did so, her temper rose another notch.
"You read my diary?!?"
"Hey, I'm your imouto. I'm supposed to do that type of stuff," Misako
responded while backing towards the door, "'Sides, I wanted to see if
you were dating Senji-kun."
"Now, just wait a minute, IMOUTO!" Usagi yelled. She was about to launch
into a tirade on Misako's breech of her privacy when she realized
something. "You sneaky little squirt... you almost changed the subject
on me." Tossing the diary onto the bed, she walked over and sighed. "It
has to be really bothering you if you won't even tell me about it."
"Because you can't do anything, Onee-chan. I'm always going to follow
you around like some puppy," Misako replied, "I mean look at Atsuko.
Sure, I'm her onee but you're her godmother..."
When Misako faltered, Usagi quickly interjected, "But what about when
Kimeko has a baby. Don't you think she'd ask you?" Misako shook her head
from side to side. "And why not?"
"'Cause, she'll ask Mother," Misako responded, "Kimeko and Minako think
Mother was right in what she did." Though, she never could figure out
why.
<I'm not going to get this solved quickly,> Usagi thought to herself.
"Come on, Miko-chan, let's go have some lunch." Misako gave a little
shrug and followed closely behind the teen as they walked out of the
bedroom and down the hallway to the living room. Walking through the
empty living room, Usagi was glad that neither of their parents was
there. "So what do you want, Miko-chan?"
"Makoto's cooking."
"I'm not that bad a cook," Usagi whined, "I thought you liked my
cooking."
"I do, Onee-chan," Misako replied, "It's just... I wouldn't mind living
with Makoto again. That was so much easier than living with Usagi." She
closed her mouth with a click of her teeth as a pang of guilt shot
through her. "I know that isn't very nice but it was hard being around
Usagi when I couldn't tell her what was wrong, and then when Chibi-Chibi
came, she sorta gave up on me but I think that it was for the best."
"Chibi-Chibi was only four tops," Usagi said soothingly, "You know that,
Miko-chan. Now what do you want?" Misako told her as she started rooting
through the refrigerator. "I don't know, Peanut, being me ain't so bad."
"I know one thing that would make me very different from you, 'Sagi."
"What's that?"
"I could die."
Usagi's heart skipped a beat; pulling back, she stared at Misako in
disbelief. "That isn't funny, Peanut."
"I could, Usagi," Misako offered, "Between you and me, you're the one
Mother would save. I think even Dad would take you."
"Because I'm the Crown Princess!" Usagi replied with some heat. She felt
like throttling Misako at the moment and it was becoming more of an
effort to keep her annoyance in check. "And I don't think Kimeko or
Sakuya would sit around letting our parents make that type of decision."
<I wouldn't either!>
"I guess I just want to be normal," Misako explained softly, "I love
you, 'Sagi-chan... I just feel confused. Everybody wants me to be
something I'm not."
"You sound like Usagi," Usagi said softly, "She would understand that."
"Nani? Would she?" Misako asked softly as she moved to look into the
refrigerator also, "I mean she is Mother, ne?"
"Yeah but... Usagi knew how you felt. She wasn't much older than us.
That's the problem with Mother -- she can't remember being plain ol'
Usagi."
"What do you mean?" Misako asked in confusion as they carried the food
to the counter.
"Just that, Mother doesn't understand how we feel. She thinks that
everything is okay now. That things can go on as they were." Usagi
lowered her head and said in a softer tone of voice, "She doesn't know
how much she hurt us when we were little."
"'Sagi..." Misako began, "It isn't all Mother's fault. You shouldn't put
it all on her." She bit her lower lip to keep the words that sprang into
her mind from being voiced. <I know 'Sagi is hurting. She needs Mom... I
need Mom.>
"All I ever wanted was a sister, and she twisted that into some
perverted tool to use! I couldn't do anything, couldn't see what was
going on... couldn't see that you were hurting. Gomen nasai."
"You were young," Misako countered gently, "Imouto, don't beat yourself
up over something you couldn't handle."
After a long moment, Usagi heaved a sigh. "You're right. Onee-chan, I
was young." She smiled at Misako who returned it. "But Mother wasn't.
She is the Queen. Who stands up to a queen? Usagi never wanted to be
Queen..." Usagi paused in her work and seemed to stare off into space
for a long moment before saying almost wistfully, "Too bad we couldn't
make Mother be just Usagi again. Make her young like she was when I
first met her."
"She'd have to be much younger," Misako said softly.
Usagi blinked and turned her head. "Nani?"
"If she was your age or even my age, Onee-chan, Mother could still use
the Ginzuishou... She would have to be little to make sure she couldn't
use the Ginzuishou to reverse the effect."
"Yeah... I s'ppose you're right."
"And Father too," Misako added, "He'd never go for us making Mother
small."
"But we forgave him, ne?" Usagi countered.
"He could have done more to stop Mother... or at least try to get her to
see our side after all this time but he didn't. 'Sagi-chan, we have to
make Dad just as young too. He can't use the Ginzuishou but if he was
older, he could cause us a lot of problems."
"But how young? I mean I don't want to change diapers." Usagi wrinkled
her nose and thought, <I'm already getting enough of that from Atsuko.>
"Maybe five for Dad, say three and a half for Mother."
"I like the idea, Miko-chan, but with the King and Queen missing, the
Senshi Council would know something was up, and we could never keep it a
secret for long." The rest of the meal preparation passed in silence.
Usagi spent much of it gloating over the prospect of a little Neo-Queen
Serenity who couldn't hurt either of them. It was fun to think about and
fantasizing about it seemed to cheer up Misako.
After taking the food to the dining room table, the girls started eating
in silence. After a moment or so, Misako cleared her throat and once she
had gotten Usagi's attention, she announced, "We'd have to be the King
and Queen."
One of Usagi's eyebrows rose questioningly as she stared at her sister.
"Miko-chan, I wasn't serious." <Although I did like the way I looked as
an adult. I'll look like that in two years though.> The thought of being
Queen was a nice one as well. <Nobody can tell the Queen what to do.>
She'd be able to make sure Pluto didn't hurt any of her friends.
"Wouldn't you want to be Queen?"
<I'll humor her,> Usagi thought as she continued eating. "Why don't you
be Queen Misako? You could be important then." <Not that she isn't
important now.> She swore softly as Misako shook her head in denial.
"And why not? This would be your chance to be Queen."
"I'd never be able to use the Ginzuishou to get us back to normal,
Onee-chan."
"But I could," Usagi countered.
"Iie, technically speaking it might be possible but the risk factor
would be too great."
<There she goes again sounding like Mizuno-sensei.> Usagi, not wanting
to spoil Misako's mood, decided to play along even more. "Okay, so I'm
Queen. And as Queen, I order you to finish your lunch so we can have
some chocolate pudding." Misako giggled and blew a raspberry at her.
As she applied herself to the rest of lunch, Usagi's mind mulled over
the possibility of being Queen. <That's a very tempting thought, then
people would have to listen to me.> She could wield the Ginzuishou too.
<And not get into major trouble for it!> Usagi was never sure what
prompted her to say, "I can't see you being Dad though, Miko-chan. You
aren't even a boy! At least I hope you're not a boy..."
"I could be." This comment caused Usagi to choke. "I meant I could be
King, baka."
"No way! You could be an oba or something. Why would you have to be
King? I don't think you'd like it very much. Being Crown Princess is bad
enough believe me."
"Would being Queen be even better?" Misako asked.
"Yeah, everybody does what you tell them to do," Usagi added, "Like I
said you could be `Misako-obasan'." When Misako shook her head. "Why
not?"
"Because it would mainly be you that would be looking after the little
girls."
"Girls...?" Usagi asked and then her mouth twitched before she started
laughing, "You mean turn Dad into a little girl? Let me guess, he would
be you." Misako shrugged as if it didn't matter to her. "Hmm... It might
be better to have Dad as me. Mother should be you; she was the one that
hurt you. Okay, so if not an oba, what about being their adult onee?"
Before Misako could answer, Usagi waved her hand dismissively. "This is
getting way too weird for me." Deciding to change the subject, she
queried, "So what do you want to do after lunch, Miko-chan?"
Misako finished the rest of her meal without answering. Usagi, thinking
Misako had given up on the joke, shrugged and took her plate over to the
kitchen sink. "So do you want some pudding?"
What Misako answered was not what Usagi was expecting. "If we're going
to switch roles, then I need to be King Endymion," Misako replied, "I
don't really want to be a boy, 'Sagi-chan, but this would be the only
way that it'll work."
Usagi stood for a long moment in speechless wonder. "You're serious,
ne?"
"Hai!" Misako chirped.
"I think I need more than just pudding." Usagi also got out a tub of
chocolate ice cream and headed back into the dining room.
The debate continued through the rest of lunch and well into the
dishwashing session that followed. Finally, Usagi accepted that Misako
was serious about switching roles. "I don't know..." Usagi admitted, "We
did promise Mother not to use the Ginzuishou again." Fiddling with one
of her long strawberry-blonde pigtails, Usagi added, "Maybe we could
write another story." That had been very pleasurable and brought them
closer together.
"Mother won't change her mind. She's like you... stubborn."
"Misako!" Usagi squawked with indignation, "I am NOT stubborn!"
"But has Mother ever said she was sorry?" Usagi shook her head. "Isn't
that what you want?"
"Hai," Usagi replied softly.
"Well, let's go get the Ginzuishou then. Time's a wastin'," Misako
offered as she stepped away from the counter and headed towards the
doorway.
"Yeah right," Usagi replied sarcastically, "Mother said she'd kill us if
we even thought about touching the Ginzuishou again."
"It's the only way she'll ever realize our point of view," Misako
countered, "'Sagi, I want a mom and I know you'd like to forgive Mother
as well, ne?"
"Hai," Usagi agreed, "But I gave my word as a Sailor Senshi I wouldn't
touch the Ginzuishou unless it was an emergency."
"'Sagi-chan," Misako began, "We've worked so hard to be happy. This way
we could show Mom and Dad what good parents do. Remember how you felt
about being an adult? You had the body but not the mind. With the
Ginzuishou, you could have both." Usagi seemed to waver so Misako added,
"I think everyone being unhappy with everyone else IS a big enough
emergency. What if another enemy attacked?" It had taken a lot of
teamwork just to repel the Black Moon Family attack.
Usagi pondered that argument for a long time and then nodded, "You're
right. I keep arguing with Mother and it's like she doesn't even listen
to me. This way she'll have to listen to me. I'll be her mommy." Usagi
snickered at the thought. Marching purposefully from the room, she
headed for their parents' bedroom where Neo-Queen Serenity kept the
Ginzuishou. Once at the door, she turned to her sister and said, "Maybe
this isn't such a good idea, Imouto. I mean do you really want to be a
guy?" Kissing a guy was one thing but actually BEING a guy...
"Iie, but it's the only way that this will work and 'sides, it'll only
be a short time," Misako responded. Reaching out, she opened the door
and ushered her sister inside. Once they were inside and the door was
closed, Usagi moved to the hidden safe to get the Ginzuishou. "When are
Mom and Dad supposed to be back?"
"I'm not sure," Usagi replied as she entered her special Crown Princess
access codes and placed her thumb on the plate to confirm her
identification. Only she, her mother, and Minako had access to this
special safe. "I think both had meetings but who knows how long they'll
last." After a short silence, Usagi stood and added, "Okay... let's get
this over with, so I just wish for us to switch with each other."
"Make sure to include the younger ages, Onee-chan, or we'll really be in
trouble." A twelve and a fifteen year old would be too hard to control.
"We'll be in trouble when we come back... if we come back." <We'll be
grounded for life but it'll be worth it.> At least Usagi hoped it would
be worth it.
"Of course, we'll come back, Onee-chan," Misako soothed her sister, "I
said I'd BE Dad but I didn't say I'd STAY being him for the rest of my
life!" Both girls giggled at that implication.
"So you said five and three, ne Imouto?"
"I'm sure I was out of diapers by three but make it three and a half to
be safe. I don't want to get stuck changing diapers. And I know you were
out of diapers at five. We want them to be able to talk too so that
works out."
<I certainly hope so,> Usagi thought to herself. She raised the
Ginzuishou up to her eye level and concentrated. "Well... here goes
nothing." She was just starting to formulate the necessary command to
the Ginzuishou when the bedroom door burst open and both her parents
came rushing in.
"USAGI!" both King Endymion and Neo-Queen Serenity bellowed.
<Please Ginzuishou...> Usagi thought desperately as she prayed the
command she was about to give would be the right one. She hadn't thought
she'd be this rushed.
Chapter 2 - Changing Prospectives
Misako watched with apprehension as her mother gave a snarl of rage that
seemed to come from the depths of her very soul. Before Misako could
even think to intervene, Serenity made a lunge for her eldest daughter
with a determined expression on her face. At that instant, a sudden
explosion of brilliant light from the Ginzuishou blinded Misako for a
moment or so.
Misako could tell that something major was happening. She felt her limbs
grow longer, her hair shorten, her body thicken and reshape itself. The
sensation made her skin crawl. <This is wrong!> her mind shouted at her,
<You aren't a guy!> But as her vision cleared, Misako knew she had been
transformed into a boy. She was, however, distracted from the new
experience by the sight before her.
Her mother, once a regal and stately woman, was now a fairly plump
looking toddler. Her once long and elegant frame had become compressed,
regaining much of its baby fat. The Ginzuishou's activation had caught
Neo-Queen Serenity in mid-leap so it was a very small and round Serenity
who slammed into a very changed Usagi.
Instead of knocking her daughter over, Serenity bounced backwards, and
landed on the bed with considerable force. She tumbled across the bed
and off the end of it before hitting the floor with a thud. Misako's
eyes darted back to her sister and found looking at her, Neo-Queen
Serenity. She knew it was really Usagi, but now the teen had the body of
their mother.
A flash of strawberry-blonde hair caught the corner of Misako's eye.
Turning so she could see what it was, she saw a very small girl that she
assumed was her father. She appeared to be a five year old version of
Usagi. The little girl scurried to where Serenity had toppled from the
bed.
"Are you all right, Serenity?" a high-pitched and decidedly female voice
asked.
"Usagi!" an even higher-pitched voice shouted. There was a flurry of
activity before a set of miniature blonde-white odangos with pigtail
tufts appeared. Misako stood stunned as she watched a much younger
version of herself climbing onto the bed with some difficulty. She
sensed her mouth start to twitch as she felt the mirth building up
inside of her. Usagi, for her part, didn't have any compunction about
laughing. The now elegant and very regal looking adult woman simply
erupted into laughter at the sight before her.
"This is not funny!" Endymion shouted as he too climbed onto the bed to
stand beside his tiny wife. Placing his fists on his hips, he glared up
at his erstwhile daughter.
Misako giggled now that she got a good look at what her parents were
wearing. Serenity was in a little blue dress with a white lace color.
Little green ribbons held the two tiny odangos. Her father's attire
caused Misako to voice her mirth. Endymion's once powerful masculine
frame was now carefully tucked inside a pink-frosted color child's
dress. Little pink bows with rabbit heads on them held his
strawberry-blonde rabbit-ear odangos in place.
Endymion's eyes swung to glare at Misako. "Na-ni?" he questioned. His
eyes enlarged to almost comical proportions as his mouth swung open in
surprise. "But that's me!"
"Not now!" Serenity snarled angrily to Endymion. "Tsukino Usagi `Smawl
Wadwee' Serenity! Come here dis instant!" Serenity was too enraged to
notice that she was speaking to a copy of herself. Her already flushed
face darkened even more with anger as Usagi slipped to her knees and
clutched her sides as she laughed. "Tsukino Usagi..."
"Misako," Usagi managed to get out between her fits of mirth, "She's...
she's right beside you!" She started howling in laughter once again.
Serenity turned to follow Usagi's pointing finger and found herself
looking at a diminutive copy of her eldest daughter who was still larger
than her. "Endweein?" Serenity questioned softly.
"Serenity... do you see..." He couldn't finish. His shocked expression
slowly melted away as Misako even succumbed and shook with mirth.
"Usagi," Serenity began in such a pained tone that both her daughters
looked at her with concern. "Usagi, turn us back. How could you bweak
your promise to me?" Her tiny pale blue eyes glimmered with tears. Two
silvery trails covered her tiny cheeks.
"I will not turn you back, MISAKO," Usagi giggled. Her face took on a
very smug expression.
"Usagi, I am your mother!" the three year old squawked while stomping a
little foot. This was a mistake as she lost her balance and toppled
backwards onto the bed. The shifting bed caused Endymion to lose his
balance as well and he too fell to the bed. Both Misako and Usagi
dissolved into howls of laughter as Serenity tried to regain some
semblance of dignity.
"Ser... Usagi," Endymion said as authoritatively as he could, "Behave
yourself!" He turned towards his other daughter and continued, "I'm
surprised at you, Misako!"
Usagi, ignoring her father, rose to her feet while still clutching her
sides. "Let's check out the rest of this place," she told Misako who was
trying desperately to get herself under control. "And stop giggling,
Miko-chan. Kami-sama, do you know how silly you look?" She nearly lost
the tenuous control she had as her sister, now in their father's body,
stuck her tongue out. "Stop that!"
"I don't hafta listen to you! You're my wife now!" Misako retorted with
a smug smile.
Usagi looked around her parents' bedroom. <My bedroom now,> she thought
to herself, <It's mine and I'm Queen!> There didn't appear to be much
difference except for the missing vault, a few furnishings, and some
other nick-knacks. She ignored both of her parents' continuing demands
for her to undo the switch. <Misako seems to be okay,> Usagi thought as
she gave her sister a long look. <I wonder how she likes being a guy?>
Deciding to ask Misako later, Usagi left the master bedroom and walked
across the hallway into Misako's room. "This must be where Mom sleeps,"
Usagi observed in her rich voice. A tiny bed with siderails occupied one
side of the room, a pink stuffed bunny sitting upon it. A toy chest sat
on the floor near the end of the bed.
"Oh... That's so kawaii!" Usagi exclaimed, "And look at the little
bunny." Giggling and nearly bouncing over to the bed with delight, Usagi
picked up the stuffed bunny that was anything but small. "Do you want to
play with your wittle bunny, Mesume?" she cooed to her little mother.
"I want YOU to change us back NOW!" Serenity demanded.
"Can't you say anything else?" Usagi asked as she put the bunny back
onto the bed and wandered into the bathroom. Sure enough, there was no
furo but in its place, a western-style bathtub. "Hey Misako!" Usagi
called to her sister, "Come see this! We should get Atsuko one for when
she gets older!" Instead of a regular sized toilet and sink, there was
one that seemed to be custom made to Serenity's new height.
"I don't believe it!" Misako rumbled in a deep bass. The sharp and very
masculine features colored red as the preteen girl inside the body
blushed.
"Talk about being pampered," Usagi added as she gave the dainty toilet a
flush.
"I wonder what your room is like, Onee-chan?" Misako mused, "This one
looks so different."
"That's enough, young lady," Endymion interrupted as he tried to block
both his daughters from leaving the bathroom. "Now that you've had your
joke, you can turn us back."
"Excuse me, Small Lady," Usagi replied after effortlessly lifting
Endymion out of the way. Much to Usagi's surprise, her father took off
for the door as soon as he was released. "Hey, where are you going?!?"
"We'll just see if the others don't have something to say about this,"
Endymion replied over his shoulder as he ran from the room.
"Iie!" Usagi cried and ran after her father.
"Mo... Misako," Misako said to Serenity, "Are you okay?"
"`Misako'?" Serenity asked, "You're Misako! I'm your mother! How could
you even hewp..." <Damn it,> Serenity thought. "HELP Usagi do such a
thing?!"
Misako was distracted from responding by the shouting of both Endymion
and Usagi. Each seemed set on what was going to happen. When Serenity
saw Usagi carrying her father in under one arm, the state of shock that
seemed to have enveloped her vanished into a fit of renewed rage.
"Put your father down dis instant!" Serenity yelled as loudly as she
could, "Tsukino Usagi, dis has gone on far enough!" Marching over to her
daughter, she glared up at the giant image of herself and continued,
"You've been acting wike a spoiled wittle... gir-L who can't get her way
so she decides to drow a tantwum." Serenity shook her head and thought,
<I have to calm down. I'm talking funny!>
"Nani?!" Usagi demanded, her own face flushing with anger. Endymion gave
a yelp of surprise as he was suddenly released. "I am NOT spoiled!"
"You wied to me!" Serenity shouted back, "You gave your word as a Saiwor
S'nshi that you wouldn't use the Ginz'shou!"
"What was I supposed to do, MOTHER?!" Usagi shot back, her fists
clenching and unclenching in anger, "You were being the worst mother in
the world!" Serenity's bottom lip started to tremble and then after a
moment, she started crying earnestly.
"How could you say that, Usagi-chan?" Endymion asked, tears glistening
in his crystal blue eyes. It was a look Misako used successfully many
times to get her way. "She loves you."
<I won't fall for that.> "Iie, she tore this family apart!" Usagi
retorted.
Drawing himself up to his full height, he placed his hands on his chubby
hips, and glared as authoritatively as he could. "Tsukino Usagi `Small
Lady' Serenity, you should have more respect for your parents!" When
Usagi snorted, Endymion demanded, "Now do as your mother tells you and
CHANGE US BACK!"
"SHUT UP, CHILDREN!" Usagi yelled back, "Stop your crying this instant
and just SHUT UP!" Marching forward, she towered over both little girls
and bellowed at the top of her lungs, "I SAID SHUT UP!" The silence that
engulfed the room was oppressive.
"Usagi..." Misako began.
"I am Serenity, Queen of Crystal Tokyo," Usagi replied, "Remember that!"
"Serenity-chan," Misako began again, "It's a shock for everybody. Let's
give them a little time to get used to it." She walked over to the door
and waited expectantly for her sister.
Usagi looked between Misako and the two little girls for a long moment
before talking a deep breath and releasing it slowly. "I am the parent
now," Usagi intoned in an icy voice, "I am your mommy now. You two wait
here." Fixing Endymion with a warning look, she continued, "Usagi, don't
even think of leaving the Royal Suite!" Turning on her heels, she walked
from the room. Before closing the door behind her, Usagi instructed,
"Mesume, both of you can play quietly while your father and I talk
things over."
"Come on, SERENITY," Misako commanded in a stern tone of voice and
pulled her sister from the room.
When the door was closed, Serenity's little form began to shake and she
fell to the floor while beginning to cry once more. Fighting his own
emotions, Endymion bent down and wrapped his arms around his toddler
wife. He talked soothingly to her, trying to get her to calm herself
before she became sick.
******
"'Sagi-chan," Misako began as they walked away from the bedroom, "That
wasn't very nice." Usagi just brooded. "Did you think they'd like it?"
"Iie," Usagi replied after a short time. "Gomen nasai, Miko-chan, I
don't know what got into me." She looked at her sister and, deciding to
change the subject, asked, "So how's it feel being a guy?"
"I don't know..." Misako admitted, "I think I need a little time to get
used to this." It was so strange to hear her father's voice coming out
of her mouth. As they came into the living room, she added, "The time of
day's changed."
"Yeah, and I bet my room's changed too."
"Probably still pink," Misako remarked while making a face.
"And what is wrong with pink, Imouto?" Usagi demanded. Before Misako
could answer, she added, "Things look different from this height." <I'm
a shrimp!> She was shorter and more petite than she had been. Turning,
she smiled and added, "Well, you're taller than I am now."
"I'd better be," Misako replied as she stepped closer so she could
better compare their heights. "Dad was always taller than Mother."
Frowning a little, she asked, "'Sagi, what was that about calling Dad
`Usagi'?"
"Uh... well... we are them, ne?" Usagi asked, "And they are us so we
have to call them like we are. If we started calling them `Mom 'n' Dad',
the other Senshi will think we're nuts!" It was still odd to have to
look up to talk to her little sister. <Things really have changed.>
"You didn't have to get that angry with them," Misako stated again, "I
think you should apologize." When Usagi shook her head, Misako scowled
and asked, "Why not?"
"Because," Usagi said with a little sigh, "Like you said, they need some
time to cool off and I think I need some time to cool off too." Running
a hand through her long blonde hair, Usagi walked towards the kitchen.
<Everything's happened so fast.> Catching her reflection in a mirror,
she stopped to look at herself. <This is so weird,> Usagi thought as she
saw her mother staring back at her from the mirror. <Misako's right
though, I should apologize.> She'd wait though; everyone involved needed
to calm down somewhat. <I'm not sure even Misako has fully realized
what's happened.> Glancing around, she noticed that Misako had vanished.
<Now where did she go?> Usagi wondered.
She was about to turn into the kitchen when she saw her sister coming
out of the hallway that led to the bedrooms. "Ne, Miko-chan, where were
you?"
"I went to the bathroom," Misako replied.
"Oh, er... well... so what do you want for lunch?"
"Didn't we already have lunch?" Misako asked.
"Yeah, but I'm hungry."
Now that she thought about it, Misako felt hungry too. "I guess 'cause
we got bigger or something..." Misako paused and then added hesitantly,
"'Sagi-chan, I got a problem."
"Nani?" Usagi asked with some concern, "Everything's okay I hope?" <Why
did Mother have to rush in like that and surprise me?> Usagi thought as
her concern for Misako started to rise.
"Yeah, everything is fine. It's just... well..." Misako blushed
furiously and mumbled out, "How do guys pee?" Sure, she knew the
biological explanation from her health classes but the actual physical
act was something entirely different. "I heard they stand up," Misako
offered sheepishly. There were some mysteries of the men's washroom that
even she couldn't fathom. Usagi broke into a fit of giggles that earned
her a dark look from Misako. "Well this body didn't come with a
instruction manual ya know!"
******
"Serenity," Endymion said softly but his love didn't even stir. As he
stood looking at the little girl that was curled up in a ball on the bed
and hugging a pillow, he was reminded of Misako. Serenity's long flowing
golden locks were replaced by a much smaller quantity of silken
blonde-white locks. Instead of the extensive pigtails that ran from
Serenity's odangos, there were hardly any length to the pigtails and
small odangos. Endymion now sported his daughter's rabbit ear odangos
and puffy pigtails which she hadn't worn in years.
"Serenity-chan," Endymion tried again as he shook her. "Please talk to
me. Are you scared?" When Serenity nodded, he climbed up beside his wife
and gave her a hug as best he could. "Why Serenity?"
"Because, Usagi scares me," Serenity admitted, "Neither of dem have been
happy with us, Endweein. I'm scared Usagi might want to hurt me."
Hugging the pillow closer to herself, Serenity closed her eyes. <I
really can't imagine Usagi hurting us,> Serenity thought, <But she's so
angry with us... with me.> "What are we goin' to do?"
"I think maybe Misako will help," Endymion speculated, "She stepped in
and stopped Usagi. Maybe if we go along with what they say, they'll
change us back." <Misako's just caught up in things right now.> His
sweet innocent daughter would never have instigated this.
Serenity sat up and stared at her husband sadly. Endymion reached a
pudgy hand over and brushed away the tears that stained the tiny girl's
cheeks. "Do you wealwy dink Misako will hewp us?" Endymion nodded after
a moment. Taking his hand in hers, Serenity then said, "But what if
Usagi doesn't want to change us back? Since Misako's come back, she's
followed Usagi awound..." The prospect of growing up again as her own
youngest daughter was not pleasant.
"I'll try to get away and find help."
"I'll come with you," Serenity offered.
"Iie," Endymion replied, "Serenity... you're smaller than I am. Usagi's
also madder at you than she is at me." He couldn't repress a cold
shiver. It ran through him as he mentally added, <At least I hope so.>
"Dis is an intolewable situation!" Serenity stated. Scrambling up, she
climbed off the bed, marched over to the door, and reached up over her
head for the doorknob. "I'm going to have a very fwank discussion with
Usagi... Even if I have to swing from her earwobes to get her to
wisten!" <Damn this little body... I sound like a baby!>
"Wait, Serenity!" Endymion pleaded as he slid from the bed and rushed
over to his wife. "Usagi told us to wait in here. I think we should, at
least until she's calmed down. Usagi's always been sensible. Once she's
calm and maybe she'll feel a little guilty too. They won't keep us like
this for long."
<I can't believe you're scared of your own daughter,> Serenity thought
but she knew that was unfair. Even she was feeling nervous about what
Usagi had planned. She was especially worried that adorable little
Misako would go along with such an idea. Usagi had been wild but Misako
had always acted as a counterbalance to it. To have them both on the
same side was very disconcerting. "So what do we do, Endweein?" Serenity
asked, "I certainly don't intend on pwaying!" She was a grown woman even
if she didn't look the part right now.
"Let's see if there's anything in here that can help us out," Endymion
replied, With that, they started searching Misako's bedroom, but in the
back of their minds, they both worried about the situation and where it
was likely going to head.
******
Serenity sat on the bed watching Endymion searching the room. She had
begun to help but Serenity was finding it hard to concentrate on finding
a way out of their situation. Endymion seemed to want to sneak out and
at the moment, all she really wanted to do was give Usagi a good
lecture! <My onee will save me...> Serenity mused. Blinking, she shook
her head and giggled.
"Nani?" Endymion asked as he paused in his search.
"I was just dinkin' how my onee will get us out of dis." Serenity
giggled again as Endymion's face scowled. "Oh, Endweein don't be mad at
me, pwease."
Sighing, Endymion left his hunt and walked over to where Serenity was
standing beside the bed. "Gomen," Endymion said while holding Serenity's
small hand, "I can't find anything that would help us. Actually, I found
a couple of things that could help us get out but I don't want to chance
using them."
"Why?" Serenity asked in curiosity.
"Firstly because it could hurt Usagi and Misako. The second reason is
that it might not work and, given the moods the girls are in, that might
be just as bad."
Serenity stood there for a long moment, and then her eyes lit up. "Hey,
what 'bout our S'nshi powers?"
"I hadn't thought of that," Endymion admitted. Concentrating, he tried
to invoke his magical transformation but nothing happened. "I can't
reach my powers. Try yours, Serenity."
"Hai!" Closing her eyes, Serenity reached out towards the Ginzuishou's
power. After so long, she no longer required the Ginzuishou to be in
physical contact with her. Her entire body jerked with surprise as she
realized it was missing. That almost constant warmth and reassurance
that told her the Ginzuishou was there was now gone. "Where is it?" she
asked in such a soft tone of voice that Endymion barely heard her. "The
Ginz'shou is gone..."
"Serenity," Endymion deduced quickly, "Would being in Misako's body have
anything to do with it?" Serenity gave him a strange, almost challenging
look. "I mean she could never access the Ginzuishou, ne? Maybe that's
why you think it's gone."
<Is that it?> Serenity thought, <Is the reason I can't feel it? That I'm
actually inside Misako's body?> "Can you feel the Ginz'shou?"
"Iie," Endymion confessed after a brief moment of concentration, "I
think we're too young." Then a thought occurred to him. "Serenity, can
you access your subspace pocket?"
Reaching behind her, Serenity flicked her hand in that long practiced
gesture to access her subspace pocket. <Nothing...> Serenity thought as
she stared at her empty hand. Furrowing her brow, Serenity tried to
concentrate on the task. <It's simple... just reach behind you and...>
Again, there was nothing. "I don't understand, Endweein," Serenity
whined.
"It's all right, Serenity."
"It is not!" Serenity snapped stiffly as she tried to place every fiber
of her small body into accessing what she knew was there. What she knew
had to be there. <Hai... I can feel it. I can almost...> The feeling of
triumph that had started to rise vanished as her eyes enlarged.
"Eehhh?!?" she questioned. Even before Endymion could demand to know
what the problem was, Serenity darted past him and into the bathroom
before pushing the door behind her.
Yanking down her underpants, Serenity plopped down unto the toilet seat
and sighed with relief. <At least, I didn't have to scramble up onto a
regular toilet,> she thought, <I would never have made it in time.>
Funny, she hadn't realized she needed to relieve herself until the last
possible moment. <It was pretty thoughtful of me to put such a thing in
Misako's bedroom.> Finishing her business, Serenity bent over to pull up
her underpants and froze. "Nani?!?" Serenity asked in surprise. <Those
aren't panties.>
The shout of protest that followed brought Endymion to the doorway but
not beyond that. Knocking at the door, he asked, "Serenity, are you
okay?"
"I... I'm okay, Endweein," Serenity said slowly, "It's just... I was
weawing a diaper. Why would 'Sagi put me in a diaper?!?" The answer
immediately came to mind.
"She didn't do it to embarrass you," Endymion said, unknowingly reading
Serenity's thoughts. "If she phrased her commands to the Ginzuishou in
the way I'm guessing she did, then you... I mean Misako would still be
in diapers."
"Oh... I guess I never dought of dat." Feeling a little embarrassed and
ashamed of herself, Serenity looked down at the diaper once again.
"What do I do dough?" She didn't want to wear one. That was for babies.
<Oh well... at least it's clean,> Serenity thought as she reluctantly
tugged the diaper back into position. After washing her hands, Serenity
turned and pulled the door open. "So now what do we do?"
******
Usagi inhaled the aroma of the food before her. "Ah! This smells great!"
"Shouldn't we go get Mother and Dad?" Misako inquired.
"MISAKO AND USAGI have already had their lunch," Usagi replied. Misako
scowled so Usagi added, "Do you really think they're calmed down yet?"
"I don't know, Onee-chan, we've been sorta ignoring them," Misako
replied in a faint rumble. "They have to be thirsty at least. I'm going
to take them some juice."
"Fine," Usagi mumbled around a wad of food in her mouth. Closing her
eyes, she concentrated on eating. It certainly wasn't her best effort
but it did taste good. <I'll be able to cook for everybody too.> That
meant she didn't have to serve such disgusting things like carrots.
<Misako will probably make me though,> Usagi thought as she took another
bite of her food. Hearing Misako return, Usagi opened her eyes and
asked, "So?"
"They were talking quietly when I came in," Misako said softly, "And
they are so hungry. Mo..." Seeing the exasperated look from Usagi, she
changed her mind and continued, "Misako said she's even hungry."
"Probably a trick, Imouto," Usagi speculated as she stuffed her mouth
with more food. <But what if it isn't?> she thought, <I wouldn't keep
food from somebody who's really hungry especially a little kid.> "Wait
until we're done and then I'll go see if they are hungry. I don't think
Misako could eat this stuff anyway, she'd choke."
******
"Did I get Misako dis?" Serenity asked while holding up a children's
book. It seemed like a long time since Misako had brought the juice and
Serenity had finally succumbed to her curiosity. She had spent the past
little while strolling down memory lane.
Endymion, completely ignoring Serenity, stated, "If this window wasn't
locked, I could climb out it... Maybe mine can be opened." He couldn't
keep still.
"Who would you go to, Endweein?" Serenity asked, "'Sagi won't wisten to
just anybody. 'Specialwy Minako 'n' Kim'ko now."
Endymion turned away from the window and sighed. "I guess Sakuya's our
only hope." Serenity raised an eyebrow in mild surprise so he added, "I
don't like even thinking of letting anyone find out about this but
Sakuya's about the only one that Usagi will listen to."
"Don't ya dink Misako will convince 'Sagi to let us go?" Endymion shook
his head slowly. Tilting her head, Serenity then asked, "Ne, is
somethin' wong?" Endymion was shifting from foot to foot and looking
uncomfortable.
"I think I have to go to the bathroom," Endymion admitted in an
uncomfortable tone of voice.
"Well, why don't you go? I dink dat toiwet will hold you okay." She then
giggled.
"I can't, Serenity," Endymion babbled, "I can't... I mean I just...
Kami-sama, I'm in a girl's body. I don't know how to go to the bathroom
as a girl." He couldn't suppress the shudder that ran through him. <I
feel weird about being in Usagi's body.> That was even worse.
"You can't hold it forever, Endweein," Serenity countered. When Endymion
didn't answer, Serenity added in a softer tone of voice, "Don't give
Usagi anyding more to waugh at." Walking over, she wrapped a tiny arm
around Endymion and hugged him the best she could. "You hewped
potty-train the girls, wemember?"
"I just cleaned up most of the time," Endymion squeaked while blushing,
"I just... er... feel weird about it."
<He's so kawaii... Well then, I don't have much choice,> Serenity
thought. "Endweein, are you a wittle girl or a gwown man?"
After a long pause, Endymion turned and asked, "All right, what do I
have to do?"
******
"What'da'ya think?" Misako asked as she stood back from her creation.
"Nani? What is it?" Usagi asked as she leaned over to look at the plate
that was covered with tiny squares.
"Sandwiches."
"That's a sandwich?" Usagi asked incredulously while picking up one of
the tiny squares between her fingers.
"Well Misako won't choke then. And it's peanut butter and banana...
which is very good for you. I used to love these things when I was
little." Usagi sniffed the tiny sandwich suspiciously before popping it
into her mouth.
"Not very filling."
"Smaller portions for smaller tummies. And you didn't eat much." Usagi
stared at Misako. "Well, you didn't... You didn't eat as much as you
usually do."
"I have to keep my slim figure," Usagi replied, "I mean I'm even smaller
than I was normally." She'd shrunk nearly two inches in height not to
mention her smaller frame. Now she knew how Misako felt next to her
friends. "Is that all you're going to give them? Maybe we should give
them a treat... Cookies?"
"I think there's some chocolate pudding in the fridge," Misako replied,
"And no pop. Juice. We don't want both of them being even more hyper
than they already are."
"Okay, you get the rest of the stuff ready and I'll go talk to them,"
Usagi agreed as she turned away from her sister. <You know, if Misako
weren't my imouto... she'd be kinda handsome.> Smirking, Usagi walked
through the living room and down the hallway to Misako's room. <I'm glad
Dad did what I told him.> She was feeling rather proud of him, although
she also felt guilt at having yelled at the two little girls. <Mom's
just don't yell for no reason.> And that's what she had done. The whole
purpose of this was to show them the right way to parent.
Opening the door, she looked inside the room. Serenity was sitting on
the floor amid a pile of toys. Endymion was sitting on the bed, arms
crossed, and features indicating that he was brooding. Endymion was the
first to spot her and he jumped to his feet. Serenity, noticing
Endymion's stressed expression, turned and also saw that it was Usagi.
Usagi's sense of guilt increased when her mother took on a very scared
expression and backed towards Endymion.
"Miko-chan," Usagi began softly while coming into the room, "I'm very
sorry for yelling at you." Serenity halted her retreat but didn't lose
her frightened look. "Usagi-chan, I didn't mean to yell at you either.
Gomen nasai." Walking slowly over to the bed and noting that Endymion
moved to place himself between Serenity and herself, Usagi sat down.
"Misako..."
"Her name is Serenity and she's your mother!" Endymion stated with
anger, "Usagi-chan, please... change us back." <She's being such an
odango atama.>
"I'm hungwy," Serenity complained.
"Daddy's coming with some lunch for you two," Usagi remarked. Holding
out her hand, she then gave Serenity a smile. "Come here, Misako."
"What are you gonna do?" Endymion asked.
Instead of answering him, Usagi leaned forward and said, "Come here,
Miko-chan." After a moment's hesitation, Serenity slowly went to Usagi.
Her little feet shuffled across the floor, her bottom lip trembled
slightly, and her eyes shimmered with moisture. In all respects, she
looked like a little girl who knew she was in trouble. "Up you come,"
Usagi said as Serenity came into reach. Drawing the little girl closer,
she lifted her up and hugged her. "I'm not mad at you," Usagi
reiterated, "I didn't mean to yell at you."
Serenity began to sniffle as a few tears rolled down her cheeks. A sense
of relief washed over her and she seemed to believe that Usagi really
wasn't angry with her. "Mommy..." she whispered out as she snuggled into
the hug. Somewhere within her mind, Serenity wondered why she called her
own daughter "Mommy" but it was soon forgotten. <We're together.> And
that seemed to be what Serenity wanted.
"Aren't you ever going to change us back?" Endymion asked as he scowled.
<What are you doing, Serenity? Maybe some kind of plan?>
"Small Lady, come here. I can't leave you out," Usagi commanded and
unwrapping her one arm from Serenity, held it out towards Endymion.
After he gave her a wary look, he walked over and allowed himself to be
lifted onto her lap opposite Serenity. "There we go," Usagi added with a
broad smile and hugged both little girls.
"I hope my girls aren't full," Misako's now deep voice announced. The
occupants of the room looked over towards the doorway and found Misako
standing there.
The picture of himself standing in the doorway was enough to bring
reality back into sharp focus for Endymion. <What's happening?> Was
anything happening? His mind was fuzzy in places. Sliding from Usagi's
knee, he marched over and said, "Young lady, tell your sister to turn us
back!"
"Hold on, Usagi-chan, you'll get your share. Misako said she was
hungry," Misako replied as she walked over to the bed while carrying a
tray laden with food. She sat it down on the nightstand.
"Damn it, D... Misako!" Endymion swore. He was about to continue on with
his scolding when he noticed the dark look on Usagi's face. He had seen
that same look, down to every crease, on the face of his wife. It was
one of annoyance and disapproval.
"Tsukino Usagi, we don't use that type of language in this house," Usagi
stated sharply.
"Bad word..." Serenity giggled out before turning her attention to
Misako. With a little effort, she shifted her tiny frame from Usagi's
lap over to Misako's lap. This was a little surprising to all concerned.
"Mom... I mean... Usagi..."
"Hai, Small Lady?" Usagi asked.
"Damn!" Endymion burst out, "Usagi, this has to stop!"
"I agree, Mesume," Usagi replied while getting up and heading towards
Endymion.
"Just the corner," Misako indicated while catching Usagi's arm,
"Remember, SERENITY?"
"'Member what?" Serenity asked.
Usagi gave a stiff nod and once again, advanced on Endymion. Endymion
for his part realized what was coming and took off out the door as fast
as he could. "Young lady!" Usagi shouted, "Get back here this instant!"
******
A short time later, Usagi returned to Misako's room looking rather
satisfied. "You did just put her into a corner... ne?" Misako asked with
some concern.
"Hai, Usagi is now standing in a corner in her room. I also scolded her
for swearing too, En... Imouto," Usagi replied. Noticing that there was
a lot of the food left, she asked, "Didn't Misako want any?"
"She's full," Misako replied, "But she did like the sandwiches, ne
Miko-chan?" <She's so kawaii!> Serenity nodded, almost sleepily, her
eyes were partially closed and her little head was drooping to one side.
"Maybe this really isn't a good idea," Misako commented.
"Nani?"
"I mean, we want to be good parents. We didn't do this so we could
punish them, Onee-chan," Misako answered, "I can understand Dad being
mad... And maybe we should make him a little boy at least."
"We can't back out now, Miko-chan," Usagi countered, "With them being as
angry as they are, we'd get grounded forever! Iie... you'd get grounded
forever, I'd just get killed. I'm already grounded."
"That's because you pushed the limits," Misako countered.
"Uh oh..." Serenity's tiny voice piped up.
"You said it," Misako agreed, "If you just didn't try to break every
rule, you wouldn't get grounded." Her sister's wild behavior was less
baffling now.
"I need change, Mommy," Serenity squeaked, "Get me diaper." <No
control.> Curiously, she watched as her own face took on a crimson
flush. She knew it was her big daughter but calling her Usagi seemed
wrong. "Nani? Hurwy pwease." <I wish I could change it myself but I'm
too little.>
"Are you sure you don't want to go back?" Misako asked. <I can't believe
it,> she ranted to herself, <I thought I was already trained.>
"This too shall pass. She's just sleepy. Maybe she didn't notice it,"
Usagi speculated, "I'll flip you for diaper duty."
"No way, Ser... 'Sagi, I made lunch. You change Mom, er... I mean
Misako," Misako insisted while blushing. <Bad enough I found out I was
wrong about when I was out of diapers. It must've been four not three
when I was trained. Still, I'm not going to change my other self.> At
least if she could avoid it.

Authors' Foreword:
This would be a good place to try and answer two points that keep being
brought up repeatedly. Firstly, some authors choose to detail everything
and explain all characters' actions. We feel that some characters'
actions need not receive an explanation from us. So, Sailor Pluto will
remain just as mysterious and unexplained as she has always been within
this series. Our reason is partly to allow the reader to put their own
imagination to work and partly because it's our writing style.
Secondly, Princess Misako will NOT be removed from the timeline. We've
heard a few people state that they are waiting for Sailor Pluto to
correct everything and erase Misako. It isn't going to happen. Now onto
more important things, like the story.
"You Don't Remember How I Feel" is a story created by the demand of a
number of readers to resolve the estranged relationship between Princess
Usagi and Neo-Queen Serenity that came about in "Tales of Younger
Earth". We believe we've come up with a unique way to do this. It will
also bring some of Princess Misako's feelings and problems from ToYE
into a sharper focus.
This is the eighth story of the Tales of Younger Senshi Series. It is
set about six months after "The World Turned Upside Down". While you
could read this story and still be able to follow most of it, there are
some references to events that happened in previous works.
To get a the full picture, here is a listing of those stories that make
up the "official" ToYSS timeline:
Grandmother Makoto - Origin of Sakuya/Younger Jupiter (CT)
Tales of Younger Jupiter - Younger Jupiter's and Chibi-Usa's visit to
the past (SMR)
