Okay, now you might be wondering 'Why aren't you starting this
section with Ranma!?'. Well, thats because by far, Akane is portrayed
the least accurately in the most fics I've seen and I think she deserves
Personally, I think Cologne and Kodachi are portrayed the least
accurately.
I guess its all in the eye of the beholder ne? Cologne does get done pretty
badly often enough, and kodachi doesn't even get used in most fics but she
wasn't used enough by Takahashi-san herself to really get into her character.
I only know of the rhythmic gymnastic tournament, and the 'date race' with
Azusa the white lily *grin*, and some cameo appearances... Ukyo is treated
similarly,(although she does get a nice spot in the second Ranma movie, but
Kodachi had only a minor appearance in the first movie and wasn't in the
second one at all... hmmm...). Maybe Takahashi-san should have thought more
on how she was going to use the characters before actually introducing them.
alright!?). The most obvious misinterpretation involving Akane would
have to be her temper. Admittedly, Akane does get mad at Ranma alot (and
I do mean ALOT), but in most cases, its Ranma that eggs Akane on and not
Actually, in most cases Akane starts it with either and insult or
a accusation, Ranma returns with an insult, Akane returns with
physical pain. For example, the end of the first story. Ranma
does start it sometimes, but those are rare in comparison.
umm, actually just about any scene with Akane and Ryoga getting along has
Ranma interferring. That must happen at least as many times as Akane
intereferes with Shampoo and Ranma ne? Admittedly, Akane was very hostile
torwards Ranma during the whole first volume of the manga series, but it
stopped pretty abruptly once the whole thing with Ranma complimenting her
smile happened. Oh yeah, I should also mention how the whole Akane/Mallet
association isn't very accurate and mallets are more a common theme with most
of Takahashi-san's works. I can clearly remember Kuno 'defeating' Ranma with
a mallet during the whole 'wishing sword' fiasco. Akane doesn't even use the
mallet all THAT often, mostly preferring to just knock Ranma into LEO. I only
remember her using it during the 'chase' scene in the first movie and once in
the second movie but thats all =\
the other way around! Akane DOES overreact alot (like when Shampoo
glomps onto Ranma, or when Ryoga starts a fight), but Ranma does his
fair share of the arguing. Akane also does her fair share of helping
Ranma, her attempt to help Ranma in the first fight with Ryoga or her
assist during the rhythmic gymnastics match with Kodachi). It is also
Akane's 'help' usually only makes things worse. When she tried to
help with Ryoga, she nearly got her head cut off and with Kodachi,
she nearly caused him to loose the fight. Her heart is in the right
place, pity that her brain isn't. Not that she's stupid, but she
simply doesn't think before she acts.
hmmm, your right. I should also mention the whole thing with her jumping into
the 'hiryuu shoten ha' at the end of that storyline. Her 'help' with offering
to cook is also a pretty good example of how helpful she really is ne? ^_^

Actually, more than that, in both the manga and anime, it's shown
that in the later issues at least, that they are often hanging
around together and problems are usually do to an outside source.

Ranma acts just as bad (although I can understand if they favor another
He never beats the snot out of someone he knows won't hit back.
Ranma is actually one of the nicer characters in the series.
The only people I'd place above him are Kasumi, Nodoka, and Cologne.
You have to admit that Ranma DOES tend to practically ask for the mallet
sometimes and I'm sure somewhere deep down Akane wouldn't hit Ranma so much
if she actually thought it would do some permanent damage. She was repentant
(eventually) after she knocked Ranma into one of the rocks by the pond and
she went all 'girly' on everyone. And about the 'nice' level of characters, I
could easily place konatsu (from what i know of him) and Tofu (definitely)
above Ranma in terms of 'niceness'.

Thanks for the comments! oh, by the way, I'm a big fan of some of your works
like 'No need for Ranma!', and 'Will you be my fiancee?'. I'm especially
looking forward to 'Way of the Cat'. ^_^
